Do any of you actually wear a fedora?

Which of these socially questionable clothing items do you use?

No but a couple of times I've worn a newsboy beret while driving a W113 Pagoda.
Then I realized the implications and have been ashamed ever since. I even told my therapist but he didn't see what the big deal was. :(

I worked with a dude who wore one we were both in sales, he was a very good sales said the hat helped a lot allowed normally gave him an extra second or two within a conversion, normally as talking point or people just spending more time talking with him because it's different. You'd meet previous customers of his and they're ally cheerfully referred to him as the guy with the hat and the hat man so it clearly worked, Granted we all wore suits and he was a pretty good singer which helped with the whole motif.

Basically in terms of impulse factors humans are surprisingly simple in that way, so when do properly, e.g a prop that will stand out it's actually very useful. It's pretty funny he even stated his sales notably dropped without the hat.

Always thought it was a stupid look even before internet hate.

I never knew cargo pants were ruined, haven't worn a pair in like a decade. I do have lots of pockets on shorts though. Drugs, knives, and phone cables aren't going to carry themselves!

I don't wear cargo pants personally but whenever I see them on others I never really think anything of them. They look fine, (some of) Gaf is crazy on that one.

I live in a beach town in CA and I have never understood the Internet's hate for the fedora. I mean, around here, people in fedoras look like this:

Just awful... what?

Hot girls can pull off most looks, dude.

Re cargo pants

Once you start justifying a casual article of clothing on purely practical grounds you've already lost.
This hits the marker, style usually compromises function in order to maintain form. That being said I have seen cargo pants used well sometimes, they're all the rage in Tokyo right now, I couldn't see myself rocking a pair though.

This fedora stuff is classic internet meme culture.

It has no basis on reality as I've never seen anyone wear one IRL.

Hats are pretty much dead as a fashion accessory.

I see it all the time around where I live. Specifically Trilby's though. I used to work with a guy who claimed to be a hat connoisseur too. The assumptions of how people act who wear hats has less of a basis on reality though.

Used to for a short time, but I stopped wearing them some time before the internet had its way with the concept.

My grandmother still has an old photo of me wearing one, and I hate seeing it.

Basically. I've never worn one (don't like wearing hats other than a beanie on those really cold days in the winter).

I rarely ever see someone wearing a fedora. The only time I can remember someone wearing one, he was also wearing a full akatsuki robe from Naruto, so I guess that says something.

The only reason people look dumb in those hats is because they wear them with t-shirts and jeans most of the time. If you saw someone in a suit wearing it like people did back when they were actually in style they would look fine.

I don't own one because I rarely wear hats and I wear suits even less. I have no reason for one.

I have, but only with the stereotypes, neckbeard and all.

Back when I was in high school there were about a dozen or so people that would walk around wearing them. The cringe was so real because I knew that in a parallel universe I could have easily wound up as being one of them had things not taken a drastic turn when I was little.

I have never worn one in my life and I made extra effort to make sure I would never be associated with them.

I bought two cheap H&M trilbys years before they became a meme. Haven't worn them in a long time.

I have a bunch of Kangol bucket hats and I bought a Kangol bowler hat as well.

By the way, have y'all fedora-haters seen The Leather Golf Hat Guy?

I'm certain that it's cargo shorts that people are ragging about (regular ones are fine by me). Mainly because it fits the profile of these types of individuals.

I have a straw trilby that I wear a couple of times a year when I visit the Hawaiian islands. It's perfect when you don't want to wear a baseball cap with that sun beating down on you and it's better ventilated.

The issue is, people are throwing these on thinking that it's classy and will thus make them look classy. It's very try-hard. A hat is an accessory to match an appropriate outfit, not an end all be all fashion item.

Wearing it with a properly fitted suit that has the right aesthetic? It might work, it might not.

Wearing it with everything you wear, from t-shirts to the 100% black suit (as seen in this thread)? Not going to work at all.

Unless you are super attractive you probably won't pull it off. Another example is t-shirt + sports jacket/blazer. Good lord the wrong people keep doing that.

My life was improved significantly when I discovered straw hats - as you say, ventilated and also light as hell.

People have been making fun of cargo pants for like, a decade. I don't know why, though.
I dont actually own any so it doesnt even apply to me, but I don't see how you can go wrong with pants that have extra spacious pockets. As a dude who is jealous of ladies purses for the amount of stuff they are able to carry, I think it seems like a great compromise.
And yet I only own jeans and dress pants.

Because they don't contour a dudes shape at all. Instead of an upside down triangle, you look like foooooomph-neck beard. And then you have more pocket space you could ever need for your cellphone, wallet, and keys.

That's my point. It's possible it could work with the right clothing, but it probably won't. The people generally wearing fedoras could do a million other things to improve their image and fashion sense as opposed to grabbing something they see as classy and trying to dress like a 'real man'.

If you genuinely need to carry as much cargo as cargo shorts and pants are designed to be encumbered with, then you're much better off with a satchel or backpack. And if you don't need that many pockets, then you're wasting a perfectly good opportunity to wear something more flattering or comfortable.

Fedoras and trilbies look good on the right person wearing the right outfit, but they aren't a cure all of bandaid for an otherwise atrocious outifit.

Everyone has that one pair of cargo shorts or sweatpants or whatever that is just feel comfortable and/or convenient. You wear those because there are genuinely some days where you just don't give a shit.

But a fedora is on a different level. That's actively choosing to wear something that looks unflattering that serves no practical purpose. Although I will say this: girls can get away with it more, especially at the beach.

The only hat I wear is a beanie to keep my ears warm in the winter, and I don't need to do that very often anymore since I moved back to Portland several years ago. I do find the memetic kneejerk to fedoras pretty amusing, though. Some people are too malleable.

Really? I've never found the excess of pockets to be in any way comfortable to wear. But then again I've met people who think skinny jeans are uncomfortable, yet I could sleep in some of mine. Different strokes, I guess.

I have a fedora, the licensed Indiana Jones one. I look terrible wearing it, so I don't wear it.

I do have a few trilbies that I wear every now and again. Wore one at my wedding, and I have another my wife brought back from Greece for me.
