Do any of you actually wear a fedora?

Which of these socially questionable clothing items do you use?

I think jokes about them are stupid, but man oh man I would not ever wear one no thanks. Wouldn't suit me at all.

I hate seeing people wearing them at my school, I don't get how people don't understand how much of a joke they are.
I tried to tell a guy on Twitch once hoping maybe he was just joking around but he seemed oblivious to the whole thing. Told me I was crazy.
Fedoras are cool, just because 99% of Americans don't know how to dress doesn't mean the rest of the world should stop wearing them.
It has nothing to do with how you dress. Well, it does but it also has to do with age, physical build and face symmetry.

I see fedora neckbeards on occasion in the wild. It is always a bit of a shock.

This comic always gives me a chuckle.

it has all to do with how you dress, sure those points you added my make it look "better" on some people, but if you don't have the right outfit then it is gonna look shit regardless. It is a complimentary piece and should not be the main focus of an outfit.

To pull it off any hat outside of baseball hats is tricky.
It has to be part of a cohesive look

and not in that "i wear a lot of leather" way

There's nothing wrong with wearing a fedora or cargo pants. Most people won't care if you wear those. The people who care are the ones who perpetuate this generalization.

at last, for christ's sake
thread is full of much awesome fashion advice which really opened my eyes about a lot of things. I've been wasting my time until now, can't wait to finally change it and embrace an appropriately dressed future

I have an Indy-style Fedora (i.e. not a trilby) that I wear sometimes if I'm out in the sun a bunch. Pretty much the only time I'd wear it, though.

The funny part is that my other sun-hat (which gets probably a bit more use, mostly for work) is way less fashionable than the Fedora is, but would still carry a lot less stigma.

I used to wear a trilby BUT in my favour were 1. it was an expensive hat I found on sale so the material quality and design were good. and 2. I have a small face so the design suits my face. Ironically a fedora would better suit the bigger guys you see who wear trilby hats.

This is the craziest thing I've ever seen, it's like a comedy sketch bought to life (if it isn't really a comedy sketch?)

The worst is people who wear backpacks at parties to carry all their vaping juices. "These cargoes can only carry so much!"

Saw a dude driving around some 84 Dodge car thing with a bumper-sticker that read "Vaping Is Not a Crime!"

I think we can all agree that the worst of all people are those who treat Vaping seriously.

I only wear cargo pants, people can keep their skinny jeans i'll keep my comfortable practical clothing.

Yes i'm bitter damn it
Stretch slim-skinny jeans are probably more comfortable along with being flattering on skinny guys. Cargo pangs are only fine if you're working at a manual labor job.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I'm certain that it's cargo shorts that people are ragging about (regular ones are fine by me). Mainly because it fits the profile of these types of individuals.

Man, cargo shorts are ruined now? I'm wearing a pair at work right now! God dammit!

As far as hats go, I only really ever wear baseball caps. Even then, it's been years since I wore one.

This is, like, third-wave fedoraism. I started high school in 2001 and this was in full swing then, just without the Reddit factor.
I think you're talking about goths back then. They were their own breed, and sometimes they wore fedoras. But in 2001, they were definitely not the r/atheism fedoras.

Nooooooope, the hate for those are purely justified.

If you're not over 50, or live in the 1930's, you can't pull them off.

No, I don't care about your snappy suit, I don't care about your 10/10 looks, any outfit will look better without a trilby/fedora.

Every one of these outfits would be improved by removing the hat, and also maybe a bunch of other accessories. Less is more, in my opinion.

Fashion, in practical terms, is how you communicate an impression of yourself to others. The context and audience are very important. And at present wearing a fedora gives people a certain impression of you that you probably don't want people to have (see the videos and gifs posted here earlier). Same with cargo pants.

Hats also especially call a lot of attention to themselves since they are so rare nowadays.

Honestly man, most people don't think of them negatively when on shorts. It's pretty much just the guys online that are subscribed to male fashion advice sites that like to talk down on certain things. I agree with most of the advices from these sites but you shouldn't blindly run with what they say. A lot of their fashion advices only works in big cities and you'd end up looking gay where I live with some of the more trendy fashion. As for myself, I don't own a pair of cargo shorts but I don't immediately notice when other people are wearing it. I'm not that shallow. Fedoras, though, they stick out like a sore thumb on many of the people that sport it with mismatching attire. You don't have to be a fashion critic to notice that.

No and the only time I've put on a fedora is to torment my wife by putting one on in a store and proclaiming that I think I'm going to start wearing fedoras.
