Some characters are conceptually stupid. Not saying Sim is, but even Seth Killian didn't approve of SF4 Seth.
ArcSys has an entire mechanic system in place to take a dump on runaway play.

Negative penalties aren't there to stop runaway playstyles but to detract people from stalling for time overs. ASW games still have runaway characters.
...no, they're actively forcing players to stay on offense throughout a round. Arcsys games have long-range zoners, but that's not the same as runaway play. Those characters are still forced to make offensive plays or get smacked with the penalty, and the game's systems are designed to allow them to confirm into combos off of those long-range hits. That type of combo potential doesn't exist in SF like it does in KI or Marvel. If you keep jumping back and backing away, you're going to get penalized by the game.

I mean, they're teasing it's not inherently an SF2 character, but they stated it wasn't a 3S character (I really hope they're serious about giving the cast some love down the road, though!). If these weren't the guys that flat-out said that no one pegged Decapre as the last Ultra character (Despite her being the most popular guess/tied with Haggar after it was confirmed that the character hadn't been playable in SF before), I'd almost be convinced it was a character from either SFI. And speaking of Decapre, didn't Retsu show up in the Decapre reveal trailer? I mean, if Mika got in...
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of characters I'd want over Retsu, like Sagat, Juri, or, like... Name a 3S character that isn't a Lee twin. Still, a redesigned Retsu out of nowhere after 3 brand-new characters were leaked by name/rough regional origin would be pretty hype. And he might be the zoner we're looking for after a redesign, too.

I know, but the fact they called it an "oversight" and explicitly referred to them not having 3S characters "right out of the gate" just has me convinced we're getting Alex even more, as well as hoping for more characters in the future. I mean, Dudley's near-staple tier by this point. Right? Right? But yeah. The confirmed lack of 3S character is a big part of the reason I'm thinking it might be Retsu.
Yeah. I wouldn't think for a second that Juri's not on the table (If she's not already planned to be relatively-early DLC), but if their goal was 8 Classic Characters, 4 Alpha Resurrections, and 4 newcomers, then there's not really any room for her, Viper, or Abel. Or Haggar, I guess... For now.

Another interview referred to the character as a "mainstay" of the series. It's why it's boiled down to Sim v Sagat. (With a random outside chance of Fei.)

I guess we will already know the entire roster by PSX. After NYCC, I don't think it's Guile either.
I think, of the Street Fighter 2 characters, the odds favorite is probably Guile.
Guile - Most likely - Most story connections. Most liked remaining World Warrior. Brings a unique gameplay style.
Sagat - Second most likely - Iconic. Well liked. Has made every series with the notable exception of three.
Akuma - Third most likely - Super iconic. Extremely well liked. I am absolutely certain he will be in sooner rather than later, but he usually enters as a secret or hidden character. So I feel like that makes him a less obvious choice to be included as the final classic character.
Balrog - Fourth most likely - Classic character. Relatively well liked. Is a boxer, which is something only the first two Alpha games have ever omitted from the cast.
Fei Long and Dhalsim- unlikely characters- mildly well liked, have unique playstyles (considering Karin's locked rekkas) and have a vague chance. I think Dhalsim is primarily being suggested do to dubious leaks suggesting he would make it.
Blanka, T.Hawk, Dee Jay, E. Honda- Extremely unlikely- Disliked characters that most people don't want back in.
When you play Character like Merkava in UNIEL, or Duo Lon in KoF, you realize how interesting a re-tooled 'Sim can be. It's funny that a guy with Fire-summoning, Gum Gum Devil Fruit Powers, and Goku's instant transmission + limited levitation often ends up as a character people just brush aside, haha. If they dare refresh him as drastically as they did Ken, he can easily be one of the most hype SF-classic reveals.
Still hoping for the return / revival of Yoga Legend.
I've got enough characters I want to play in this game already, but I wouldn't be opposed to the return of my first SFIV main to join that group of people.
He wouldn't be the final reveal anywho, it's most likely Classic Character -> New Character.
And how'd it be a waste anyway? He's one of the most visually unique characters in the series. Surely more interesting than "more guys with DP's and Hadoken derivatives".
The previous pacing kind of makes me wish Zen is an older female character, actually. We've been going Male -> Female with these reveals. (Vega->Mika->Rasheed->Karin->Gief->Laura, correct me if I'm wrong here), so why end the trend now? It'd be great to finally have a female character who can pull master / last boss style duties in the series.
Yeah, I see no reason why his roll wouldn't end with claw when he has it equipped, that just seems lazy, and without real reason. Even the EX version doesn't utilize it! Having the claw lead to more injury (hitstun) would make sense.
I like the idea he gets a grapple out of being clawless, but the visual changes he gets from having the claw really should be stronger. I do like how crazy his face looks behind the mask, however. They did a good job with that.

I still don't buy the Dhalsim theory. I wouldn't be that disappointed if it's him, but I am not a believer.

I am actually among the people that like seeing pros use him. Still, it just does not seem likely at all. I am not even certain the last "classic" character will be from Street Fighter 2 and among those characters Dhalsim is one of the least likely to make it.

I've just never been that big on Dhalsim's playstyle to begin with. Hell, Zangief's changes didn't really excite me that much (plus his new super was underwhelming). I mean, I don't hate them, they just wouldn't have been my ideal Final 2. If we had to choose World Warriors, I would have personally gone with Guile & Sagat, but that's just me.

We know the new character is Zen and thanks to the same source we know there's a real chance that character is from India.
After Zangief was announced that pretty much knocked the Urien/Alex lists out of contention in favor for the ones with Zangief and Sim... but those lists also have Juri and a bunch more wrong stuff than Bogard getting North Africa wrong as a newcomer location for Rachid/Rashid.
We knew from the very first official announcement of this game that Charlie was in it... he's obviously the center of the storyline this time. A Charlie-centric storyline without Guile... well just wouldn't be very satisfying. Of course Guile can be in the story without having to be playable at launch (or ever I guess).

I wouldn't mind. I never even attempted to main him, but have to say, along with Good Gief's, playing a solid Sim is pretty refreshing. They always teach me how to be more patient. Also want Guile in.
I mean, if it were completely my call, I would have swapped out Vega for either Crimson Viper or Juri, Zangief for Alex, & whoever the last classic character is for Urien. But again, that's just my opinion.

Cammy was a personal favorite of mine back in Super Turbo, so I'm a little biased. Though for the sake of variety, I wouldn't be opposed to swapping her out for Crimson Viper while Vega gets switched for Juri.
