Do any of you actually wear a fedora?

Which of these socially questionable clothing items do you use?

Not a single fedora in that GIF. But no, I don't wear a Fedora as I don't have the money for one of those damn things. Plus, they should be only worn with the best suits.

Yup, a Kangol, in purple no less (although this is technically a trilby that converts to a bucket hat and blah blah nobody cares.)

Maybe someday I'll have the luxury of time to give a shit about what people think of my clothing choices, but my schedule is pretty booked.

I don't wear cargo pants personally but whenever I see them on others I never really think anything of them. They look fine, (some of) Gaf is crazy on that one.

Seriously. I'm not understanding the cargo pants thing. They are fine. Such a weird thing to be selectively bossy/judgmental about.

Only hat I wear is a blue beanie when it's cold or when my hair is being funky. I need more hats but I could never see myself wearing a fedora.

If you cant see why are they bad, is too late for you

Unless you are a teenager, I cant fathom how an adult can wear them and go to public places without feeling shame.

Why the long case?
I'm honestly sick and bitter towards people blaming meme culture whenever something they secretly find permissible is insulted by the masses. Look, I get it, you didn't grow up with athiest nerds with a superiority complex. You didn't grow up with the one conservative friend who idolizes Reagan, and wears a fedora with his oakleys and sperrys because his grandma told him they make him look handsome. The internet doesn't collectively make fun of something in some secret conspiracy to tarnish the things you personally like. Things become trendy and funny because they are relatable. Its not some personal attack on you.

I bet you wear skinny jeans haha nerrrd

90% of the problem with fedoras is that people wear it with a fucking slob looking t-shirt and doritos-stained cargo shorts. It's a formal dress item being combined with the most IDGAF outfit possible by people with no social skills. That's like sprinkling gold flakes on the puddle of jizz you just spurt onto the floor while watching Zero Suit Samus hentai.

If you make a look out of it, and use as fucking directed, you're fine. You may come across as insufferably hipster, but you won't come across like someone whose unwashed neckbeard is hosting a new bacterial ecosystem.

it has all to do with how you dress, sure those points you added my make it look "better" on some people, but if you don't have the right outfit then it is gonna look shit regardless. It is a complimentary piece and should not be the main focus of an outfit.

I agree with you. I went back and changed what I said, minutes after saying it. Clothes do matter as well.

Some of those pics are borderline. Not horrible though.

I wouldn't and have never worn one.

No it has nothing to do with other nerds giving it a bad name, it is because I simply don't like wearing hats.

Only once, with a suit. I actually bought it more for having an excuse to play around with it when I was bored.

I really don't understand the hatred for fedoras. I mean, I get the stereotype, but men are already so fashion-constrained these days, why insult a perfectly good hat?

I'm certain that it's cargo shorts that people are ragging about (regular ones are fine by me). Mainly because it fits the profile of these types of individuals.

Cargo shorts are not the problem in that picture.
The cringe worthy t-shirt is.
The completely out of place hat is.
The fact that they'd probably look somewhat awkward in general, due to physical features, even.
But the shorts are the least of their problems.

I mean, you mean to tell me if you put some skinny jeans or whatever on those dudes, they'd look alright?

A lot of people in this thread conflate stylish with cool. Yeah, some people can look fashionable in a Fedora, that doesn't mean you don't look like a knob in one.

Nope. I think they just look stupid.

I used to have a friend who loved wearing one (he wasn't fat. in fact he was really skinny/small) and I'd always take it off him. He must be the only person who has worn a fedora and managed to pull so many girls at night clubs.

I knew some other people who worn them and they fit right into the typical fedora wearer.

The problem with the picture of that girl in a hat and all those men above, is that they look good *despite* the hat thing. Every single one of those attractive people would look even better if they removed those hats.

I haven't worn one of those hats myself and I don't really hate the people I see that do wear them, I've got better things to worry about personally. What I do find interesting and rather baffling is the mysterious thought process these guys must have when the understandable fedora hate craze has kinda blown over (still, valid arguments).

Back in 2010 to 2013, I studied game development, and as far as I'm aware, anti-fedoraism was a thing even then. Very few people in this community wore hats in general, and the few that did got hat-based nicknames, hardly out of affection. But since graduation, it seems to me that the amount of fedora/trilbys have increased every passing year when new freshmen start. Being into games, it can be assumed that everyone is tech savvy and are aware of that thing we call the internet. It's difficult as a gamer to not be aware of the anti-fedora "movement" and the memes around it. And most, if not all, I've seen around school do look like the stereotypical slob. That's fine to me, they can be bronies etc if they want, I don't like bullies of any kind, but the thought process is a mystery to me. And I used to identify or at least know where these guys come from as I consider my own background to be similar. I just can't figure out how one decides that this style is for me even though they surely see and hear lots of evidence that contradicts it as a valid option. Not when the meme is so widespread and the hat panned.

The worst thing about this picture isn't the corny-ass quote, or the fedora, or even the Sonic shirt. No, it's the horrible use of punctuation. If you're going to try to sound intelligent, at least learn how to properly format your sentences.

Well, that's assuming that is a serious picture. For all I know, it could just be intentional irony, but I feel like that would be giving whoever made that picture too much credit.

I'm pretty sure it's a serious picture. The r/atheism subreddit had a meme called "Faces of atheism" where people posted selfies with text relating to atheism:

Pretty sure that's where it originated

No, they're horrible looking hats and you look horrible wearing them. Yes even you.

Even those people who look 'good' wearing them would look better without them.

Well yeah the difference is there but "fedora" has sorta become shorthand for trilby-wearing neckbeards anyway.

Just because someone may be a "fedora" doesn't mean others shouldn't be educated to the fact that said individual is wearing a trilby. Plus the thread was specifically asking about the hat.

What's it matter? In most cases, the people who look bad in trilby hats look bad in fedoras and vice versa. It's not like one is enough superior to the other to warrant a distinction in this discussion, so who are you helping by being pedantic like that?

You're like the kid who thinks he's clever by still playing his Xbox after his mom tells him no more Nintendo.
