Ancient Aliens: New Nin. 3DS now offers the best SNES emulation on any handheld

I'm at work so I can't do this yet, but I checked last night and my firmware is like 10.1.2U - or something like that. There's another number after the "10.1" part. Will this still work for me, or does it need to be 10.1.0 and under?

Actually its this, the most current firmware: 10.1.0-27U

Am I screwed because I'm on the most current as of today?

This is getting better and better :-D

That came out exactly a month ago which is before this thread was made so no, you're not screwed. You are on the newest firmware so you should have no problem getting the YouTube app and setting up Tubehax.

Wow, I just got this installed. So easy and so awesome! Rewind features mapped to the ZR/ZL buttons? BEST EMULATOR EVER. A-freaking-mazing!

Questions: What are the best audio/video settings for SNES and NES? And I installed the "package" zip and it includes like three different versions of the SNES emulator. Which one is the best, they all look the same? Maybe we can get this info added to the OP.

Hmmm, I wonder if I have bum files or something. I tried loading a few MSX games and the graphics were all scrambled. I grabbed the system roms from that github link earlier

Make sure you've set the emulator to MSX2+ in the core options, otherwise MSX2 and MSX2+ games will look like that.

I'm resolving my own issues as I go! lol

Man, I have no idea what happened.

I played a few games on SNES Plus and they all ran at 60 FPS. I play around with some other stuff and I come back to it and now all the games are running at 30 FPS to 40. What the hell? I don't get it.

Any ideas? Is there something in the settings menu that I could've messed with to destroy the frame rate?

EDIT: Figured it out. I enabled "Rewind". Obviously this destroys your system memory. Flipped it to off, and works again smooth 100%.

... Now I can't figure out how to save this setting. Every time I come back into the emulator the Rewind feature is "ON". How do I save it to be "OFF"? I've pressed "Save New Config" and every time I come back into the emulator it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

EDIT: I changed the settings in the QuickNES, and they applied to the SNES emulator. Now when I change settings in the SNES emulator, they don't save upon exit. Oh well, I must've goofed something in there.

Next question: Is it a known issue when using a save state in CATSFC Plus, when you load a save state - the audio completely shuts off? It's happened to me in two separate games. In some games the whole thing crashes, no loading at all. Hmm...?

This was working for me last night (temperamental obviously but working) but today when I load YouTube to try and get into the home brew launcher the console is telling me I need to download the latest version of YouTube? I can't get it to go any further :-(

I wanted to set this up today. I made the mistake and updated it to the latest version and now it just boots to normal Youtube.

I still have the old YouTube, but the console won't do anything unless I update. Has this exploit been blocked now?
Same here, the answer is yes. They must have blocked it over night. Darn, because I was using Themehax last night and switched back to normal themes as the last thing I did before going to bed.

I downloaded Iron Fall but that version is also patched now too.

Bummmmmer!

I would avoid updating. There may be a spoof solution for the YouTube app to make it think it's up to date. Something is sending it a message that it isn't, so it's got to be a case of blocking that.

(I hope I'm right)

Damn I literally just set this all up last night

I came in to read up on this today and want to do it tonight - I have the new 3dsxl and its up to date. based on today's comments, is it still possible or am I out of luck??

I believe it's still possible to install browserhax and then themehax.

Can anyone help please!!

I have added the files as per Rich instructions in the op. I can find the emulators when using tube hax but when I select one I get a black screen on top and red screen in bottom!! The only way to get out of this is to power my n3ds off!!

What am I doing wrong??

Maybe try another nightly build (older one). And install themhax asap! As far as I understand it TubeHax has been fixed/will be fixed very soon by Nintendo (updated YT app for 3DS for FM 10.x).

Hi guys. I've been playing Donkey Kong Country via CatSFC Plus, and the speed has mainly been good so far. There is crazy slowdown in the Stop and Go level with those manically fast, un-killable monsters. Any tips on improving things or do I just need to put up with it?

Thanks.

Assuming I can still get in and install themehax the only thing that could break that would be updating the firmware correct?

Yup. I haven't tried BrowserHax on my New 3DS yet. I'm assuming this is the last option to get it working since IronHax and TubeHax are blocked by Nintendo now.

Try disabling sound if you haven't already.

Catsfcplus seems to have more accurate audio, but from my experience catsfc has the more reliable performance.

Why are you using catsfc plus? Use CatSFC.

Just tried that level and its full speed, no drops.

Thanks for the recommendation, though not too keen on playing without any sound.

Good to know, thanks.

I've been using it because it had the Plus name, automatically assumed it's better, hah.

I wonder if my save state from CatSFC Plus will be compatible...argh.

Is there a list SNES compatibility list somewhere?

Which NES emulator gives the best performance, or does it matter? Also, 3D games like Starfox, Starfox 2, and Stunt Race FX have weird black bars flickering and extreme slowdown on both regular CatSFC and Plus. ALSO, have the latest nightlies been fixed, and FINALLY, I thought CatSFC Plus worked better on New3DS and CatSFC worked better on old3DS, but CatSFC actually gives the better performance on both?

Nope, the N3DS is fast, as it stands now (raw CPU power) it's faster than the Vita (804Mhz vs 444Mhz).

Not sure that's the full Vita hardware potential but that's what can be used as of now.

No way!!!!

I was under the impression that the PS Vita was running between 800 Mhz and 1.2 Ghz, and that the n3DS was a quad core running at 280 Mhz.

I am kinda shocked that in terms of raw power the N3DS is faster. Though obviously in GPU power the PS Vita far outclasses all iterations of the 3DS. Makes you wonder what kind of power they could pull off in a 3DS successor.

Phew browserhax did the trick. themehax installed now, sorry Devil Survivor

Same here, just installed Themehax. Bummer, I've purchased like 6 themes, I like them all! :-(

I'll roll with this for a while. I mean Browserhax seems pretty reliable, but I want to piddle around with Homebrew for a while.

Whenever I change settings in CATSFC they don't save, but when I change them in QuickNes, they do save and apply them to CATSFC. I want to have separate button mappings for the two cores, but it isn't working for me. Any advice?

anyone use homebrew browser?

it loads weird for me, i see the icons no text, can't navigate, and when i use the touch screen to press the icon (like settings) it just freezes

Remember that settings only save on exit. If you want emulator specific configs you need to create one from the main menu when you launch the emulator. Then quit the emulator correctly so your settings are saved.

Hmm, yeah I'm doing that, quitting the emulator to save on exit. I mean, you should be able to save separate button mappings for NES and for SNES? It's not working like that for me, it's saving universally when I change the the settings for one.

Oh well, not that big of a deal.

This is probably a stupid question, but how do I exit so I can load another game? All the buttons seem mapped to the controller. Home button doesn't do anything.

Talking about Retroarch ? Just touch the lower bottom of the touchscreen for the QCK Menu to show up.

Browserhax is really easy to setup and from there you can install themehax from the homebrew menu which doesn't need an internet connection

you can't compare 3DS and Vita based on Mhz, both use ARM processors but those processors are completely different, Vita is still much more powerful than maxed New3DS.
