Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

I still wish JJ was doing this whole trilogy :-(

I think it's an interesting approach that harkens back to the way the original trilogy was developed. Compared to the prequels, which were all made under Lucas with an iron fist, each film in the OT were made by a different lead director. It made the series feel like a big collaborative effort rather than just one guy controlling everything.

Eh, I think Trevorrow will be fine given how little control he'll have over the story at that point.

There's still a lot to worry about CT directing apart from the story.

This is especially with how technically good looking Awakens looks right now

i'm fine with it as long as he stays the fuck away from any writing duties. his directing work is serviceable so that's a step down from rian but whatever it could still be a pretty fun movie, but where jurassic world really shit the bed was it's script imo.

Oh yeah I hear ya, I'm just so impressed with everything I've seen for Episode VII that its a little scary another director might screw it up.

We basically know though that JJ is involved with the trilogy's overall plot / arc considering from all leaks early on he demanded re-writes of the direction / script etc. so I think he will influence the next two films for sure

VII - JJ Abrams
VIII - Rian Johnson
IX - Colin Trevorrow

I'm okay with this. Star Wars is best in the hands of multiple directors. Granted, individual talent may come in to question, but I think one of the small reasons the OT resonated so well was down to this aspect.

Trevorrow might end up being a bigger drop in quality than Marquand.

I think with Disney at the helm, deviations won't be as noticeable, especially if the first 2 are massively well received.

I actually liked Jurassic World but I'm not sure if Trevorrow was exactly the best pick for a mainline SW movie.

It seems kinda like they picked him on a whim. "Oh hey, there's the guy that did that other nostalgia revival movie which made shitzillion dollars, let's hire 'em".

If you had JJ do all three, there is a good chance he'd be burnt out like other directors tend to get such as Nolan with the Batman trilogy and Raimi with Spiderman.

True, didn't Disney try to get him back to finish things off with Episode IX? I'm almost positive that was rumored everywhere. Would have been nice if that happened.

He does Episode VII, get a nice break from Episode VIII, and then wraps things up with Episode IX

It's Lucasfilm and yes the deviations will be noticeable. I mean Johnson's style will almost certainly be different than the almost operatic style of JJ.

The directors are being given leeway. It's not like they're working on a Marvel film.

The trailer would be so much better without those first few ''trailerlines''.

''Who are you?''
''I'm no-one.''

ugh

This is gonna sound strange, but I'm pretty sure those lines were not there first time I watched it. Green band was absent too.

It was only today that they were on the official video release.

Or maybe my memory is in a complete daze

Since JJ and Johnson are both writing the scripts for their movies, that doesn't exactly set a great precedent for IX.

JJ's films are leagues better than Jurassic World.

Jurassic World is that bad? I find it hard to believe it's much worse than Star Trek and definitely can't be worse than Looper.

I loved those two lines. Isn't it very Buddhist like, which the concept of "the force" is partially based on?

I think it ruins the whole beginning of the trailer. Without those lines I would be intrigued by what is happening with her on screen. Even the sounds are perfect for having no lines. The second I heard those lines it took me right out of the mystery. It would be so effective if there was only the music before Lucasarts logo.

Abrams has always had two major flaws. The first is his love of lens flares. The second is that he keeps working with shitty scriptwriters.

He knows how to work a scene and maximize an actor's capabilities. If the script is good then I have zero doubts this movie will be extremely good if not great.

yeah it's just your memory last night. i watched it 20+ times last night immediately after I watched it live on TV. the lines and green band were there every time.

Trevorrow helped revive an IP that was on life support at best, to become the third highest grossing film of all time.

He's not going to be put on some imaginary leash.

Yea, I don't know. Considering these movies are going to be tied closely together I highly doubt there will be a dramatic shift. Definitely no more than the OT.

Well Kasdan is coproducing all of these so it's not going to be radically different like the second movie isn't going to be like the Hobbit in tone. However Johnson's films look very different than JJ's.

So same as mad max or fast and furious?

stupid things can be done incredibly well too you know. jurassic world's biggest problem was making a movie about a park with dinosaurs feel so boring and uninspired.

edit: and yeah one's got some cool ass anti-patriarchy sentiment to it, the other has some god-awful cornball quotes from pratt about how animals like to eat and hunt and fuuuuuuck. to lobby both these films as the same kind of 'stupid' is insulting.

I haven't seen Jurassic World. Is it really THAT bad?

You won't see well acted scenes, memorable shots, or anything remotely comparable to the first outside of nostalgia overload. If you go in expecting to be reminded of the only good JP movie and see dinosaurs do dino things then you won't be disappointed. It fulfills its purpose. It's a one and done movie.

I see them as the same. Sure some are better than others but I know going in to turn off my mind and just enjoy myself
