To think George Lucas will be bitter is very odd. We are getting this movie BECAUSE of of what Lucas planned out prior to selling the company.

Lucas from the get-go a few years back put in place the plans to kick start the sequel trilogy and sell the company.

Who hired Kathleen Kennedy to produce the films and lead Lucasfilm? George Lucas
Who hired Michael Ardnt to write the initial draft? George Lucas
Who hired Lawrence Kasdan to come back and help oversee the writing of multiple Star Wars films? George Lucas.
Who sold to to Disney once Kathleen Kennedy had been in place for a while and the initial plan for the sequel trilogy and anthology films was in place? George Lucas
Who personally called JJ Abrams and asked him to direct the film? George Lucas

This whole "George Lucas must be bitter/sad/pissed" is pure fanboy nonsense. He wouldn't have hired all these people now working on the films and sold the company if would be mad that things are going exactly as was planned.

Totally agree.
It looks like he's realized that he can do no more for the legacy of Star Wars himself, so he's put all the pieces in place so it can continue in the best way possible as he sees it.

At least by doing that, he's had control of who's hands the property is in for the forseeable future.

Now someone go the extra mile and put him on Dagobah.

Well, it kinda look like dagobah already lol

QFT. All hail King George.

Pretty much. And look, I'm someone who thinks Lucas has been a fucking disaster of a writer and director for a long time now, who really needs to be kept far away from the thing he created. But there's no reason he'd be bitter. If he wanted to keep and control Star Wars, he would. Instead he built some framework and passed on the torch.

Yep, he will be laughing his ass off counting all his money. After the way some fan boys treated him and all the shit he's got over the years, I bet he couldn't give a shit about Star Wars anymore.

He seems to be looking forward to watching the film but it must be quite nice to think it's someone else's job now.

Why does Kylo Ren care about Vader, his mask and doing his work? Vader failed in his mission and being a Sith, he turned on his master. What is there to glorify/worship or care about?

Perhaps the filmmakers just think its a cool shot to have and it will make fanboys go crazy to see Vader's mask, but perhaps there is more to it than that.

Perhaps Luke was the master of Kylo Ren, Ren went Sith and found out what happened between his master and his father.

I dont think Ren will just be some random evil guy like Maul was, and i dont see how Luke fits in this story, if he is to be old sage wise man, he has to know something about Ren that the protagonists want, hence them visiting him at some point in the film.

We don't really even know if Ren is talking about Vader. I mean it just cut to Vader's helmet. Trailers do that all the time make you believing in something else.

This quote from JJ seems to suggest it is Vader he's talking to.

[/“That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?’” Abrams reveals. “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

I doubt many people know the truth of Vader's redemption. Kylo probably sees him as a martyr that died for the Empire, which is why he chooses to continue what he believes Vader's mission was.

I'd recommend people scrutinize the way the trailer is cut rather than just extrapolating what is going on based on what was presented. Dialog and music is definitely spliced over muted scenes, I wouldn't be surprised if much of what we saw in the trailer is out of context to lead fans on red herrings.

But that's just my opinion after watching some wild speculation from reactors on youtube.

The only people that know what happened in Death Star 2.0 are Luke, Vader, and the Emperor. 2/3 of them are dead.

I think it's safe to infer that Luke told Leia who in turn told Han and it probably didn't go very far outside that circle.

So your premise that Vader failed at being a Sith and turned on his master is a premise that only a small handful of people know about. What the galaxy knows about Vader are the evil atrocities he committed while being number 2 in the Empire. Kylo Ren probably has no idea of how Vader and the Emperor actually died and that Vader was redeemed in the end. For all he and the rest of the galaxy knows, they were blown up by the rebellion on the Death Star.

How would Ren know that Vader turned against his master? Vader is the face of the Empire, and most imperials probably believe he was assassinated by rebels in Endor.

It's a good thing you guys brought up humor in the previous movies, as the one aspect of TFA I'm REALLY worried about is tone. But what has me concerned is not the prospect of the film being too light-hearted, but that it will be too violent.

I mean, JJ had Khan fucking crush a man's skull in Star Trek. I don't want that Game of Thrones shit in Star Wars.

How many amputations, dismemberments, and force chokings are there in 1-6? Burned skeletons on the ground? Torture scenes? It's not super dark, but still.

That is a solid point, i have not thought about the idea of who knows what, and how was the death of the Emperor and Vader framed for the average Empire citizen and the rest of the galaxy.

If Vader was to be a martyr, then the story we know cannot be the one that is common to the rest of the universe. Its certainly possible that after the events, Luke wanted his father to be remembered in a good way and told a different story, not that Luke lied, because Vader did save Luke at the end. However this ends up backfiring later on and interpreted differently.

Just like Ben Kenobi did.
It's like poetry.

Since he has his mask, I doubt he believes Vader died in the explosion.

Imperial records show that Vader was in Endor at some point during the last battle and his remains were found there, which makes it fair to assume he was killed by rebels while in the moon. I bet that's the official story that was going around.

Unless Ren found the remains himself 30 years later. In that case, the official story might have been that he died at the Death Star, but later Ren would find that he was probably assassinated by rebels in Endor.

If there is a callback like that, I will leave the cinema as that will rpove my point that they are aiming at tugging at the minds of the Old Fans for approval and money and are relying on callbacks.

Agree!

Give us a new take on this starwars universe, dont do the classic mistakes and show scenes to please fans. fuck that shit and I am a big ass starwars fan. I want something that can hold up to the original trilogy.

.

If I recall he even called Hamill, Ford and Fisher out for lunch asking their involvement in a new sequel prior to the sale

People complain when a trailer shows too much of a movie (something I totally agree with) and now people are complaining because they haven't shown every little detail of the movie. Do people really not want to be surprised anymore ?

Personally, I'm very pleased that the trailers have shown just enough, while leaving the plot details out, so I don't know everything that's going to happen, going into this at the cinema.

Wizards First Rule? Ehh, guess it really doesn't fit.

How about Wizards Thirtieth Rule:
People are idiots. They don't know what they want, and if by some chance they do know what they want, they complain about it upon receiving what they asked for.

I think there'll be plenty of subtle references but I don't think they'll want to cram too many on-the nose ones in. Finn's appearance in the first teaser and the Falcon flying similarly to ESB in the full trailer are nice references but they're not in your face.

Just to chime in on the Lucas bit, I could've sworn that when asked after the initial teaser released he said he hadn't watched it and that Disney had opted to ignore his notes.

Either way, I think it's silly to assume he would be bitter about it. He didn't have to sell the company and IP, he was already a billionaire by then. I think he's rather relieved actually.

He's definitely watched the first one and IIRC he said he wanted to watch the second one on a big screen.

I heard they will have a scene in
a cantina with Solo
though...so...

funny world this starwars. After one of the biggest fights in the galaxy that resulted in a historical victory, only 3 people know what happened. It seems like most of the universe doesn't know what Jedi is or Sith therefore making Empire's grasp of territory look very limited rather than expansive.

Regarding the Emperor, one would think, that Luke's power could cast fear among the empire. How can they not know that part of the truth? A Jedi freed the galaxy? How can this be a lost history within 30 years, no, too illogical for it is too poetic.

Because people are angry at him in the internet

Edit: Not that this would be my opinion, but Stat Wars "Fans" tend to overreact when it comes to Lucas.

Lucas and Disney are on good terms. Lucas only sold his company to Disney, because that was the only company he trusted to treat the companies, it's employees and the IPs with respect.

I wouldn't be surprised if the very first showing of TFA is a private screening with Lucas present.

I was more refering to why this is is even a question.

Butbut but... JarJar Binks! midichrolians! you have the higher ground! cringe romance! too much cg! Not enough like the old movies!

George Lucas is the ENEMY!

George Lucas made pretty big mistakes with the prequels, but I'm not gonna hate him for it. He created Star Wars which is my favourite franchise of all time. He also helped create Indiana Jones, another one of my favourite franchises. Dude is cool in my book.

Not that he gives a fuck. He's living the life right now.

I wonder if Lucas will ever change his mind about not showing his experimental films to the public. THX 1138 was pretty damn cool.

He said he believed they weren't using it at all. Kennedy later came out and said that they are using all his notes. But tweaking some stuff like having older characters instead if young kids.

I hardly think people have forgotten about the galactic war. But Sith and Jedi? It is not implausible to think people in general don't know the truth about them.

Think about it. In the prequel years, battles were fought by hundreds of thousands of troops with the Jedi being a very small part of the big picture. Most Stories of Jedi being heard second and third hand would sound almost too fantastical to believe. The stuff of fairy tales, but good for camp fire conversation none the less.

In the OT years, the Jedi/Dark Side had fallen further into obscurity. The Emperor was largely a recluse. Any of the direct battles between Jedi were not witnessed or had very few witnesses. Luke vs. Vader fights were unwitnessed. Obi Wan vs Vader was only seen by a few Storm troopers and a rag tag bunch of space hooligans.

I think the whole Jedi/Sith are a myth thing could've easily been resolved by twisting the numbers a bit and simply adding a few lines here and there, maybe have someone show utter disbelief at the existence of the Jedi. Probably also should've made the Jedi less involved in the actual politics. I honestly don't think it's such a big deal.

Is there no internet in Star Wars?
Or TV?
Or even radio?

You'd think people would at least pay attention to the happenings in the Republic capital.

He wanted to make Indiana Jones a pedophile.
