It looks like he's realized that he can do no more for the legacy of Star Wars himself, so he's put all the pieces in place so it can continue in the best way possible as he sees it.

At least by doing that, he's had control of who's hands the property is in for the forseeable future.

I doubt many people know the truth of Vader's redemption. Kylo probably sees him as a martyr that died for the Empire, which is why he chooses to continue what he believes Vader's mission was.

I'd recommend people scrutinize the way the trailer is cut rather than just extrapolating what is going on based on what was presented. Dialog and music is definitely spliced over muted scenes, I wouldn't be surprised if much of what we saw in the trailer is out of context to lead fans on red herrings.

But that's just my opinion after watching some wild speculation from reactors on youtube.

So your premise that Vader failed at being a Sith and turned on his master is a premise that only a small handful of people know about. What the galaxy knows about Vader are the evil atrocities he committed while being number 2 in the Empire. Kylo Ren probably has no idea of how Vader and the Emperor actually died and that Vader was redeemed in the end. For all he and the rest of the galaxy knows, they were blown up by the rebellion on the Death Star.

How would Ren know that Vader turned against his master? Vader is the face of the Empire, and most imperials probably believe he was assassinated by rebels in Endor.

It's a good thing you guys brought up humor in the previous movies, as the one aspect of TFA I'm REALLY worried about is tone. But what has me concerned is not the prospect of the film being too light-hearted, but that it will be too violent.

I mean, JJ had Khan fucking crush a man's skull in Star Trek. I don't want that Game of Thrones shit in Star Wars.

How many amputations, dismemberments, and force chokings are there in 1-6? Burned skeletons on the ground? Torture scenes? It's not super dark, but still.

That is a solid point, i have not thought about the idea of who knows what, and how was the death of the Emperor and Vader framed for the average Empire citizen and the rest of the galaxy.

If Vader was to be a martyr, then the story we know cannot be the one that is common to the rest of the universe. Its certainly possible that after the events, Luke wanted his father to be remembered in a good way and told a different story, not that Luke lied, because Vader did save Luke at the end. However this ends up backfiring later on and interpreted differently.

Since he has his mask, I doubt he believes Vader died in the explosion.

Imperial records show that Vader was in Endor at some point during the last battle and his remains were found there, which makes it fair to assume he was killed by rebels while in the moon. I bet that's the official story that was going around.

Unless Ren found the remains himself 30 years later. In that case, the official story might have been that he died at the Death Star, but later Ren would find that he was probably assassinated by rebels in Endor.

People complain when a trailer shows too much of a movie (something I totally agree with) and now people are complaining because they haven't shown every little detail of the movie. Do people really not want to be surprised anymore ?

Personally, I'm very pleased that the trailers have shown just enough, while leaving the plot details out, so I don't know everything that's going to happen, going into this at the cinema.

I think there'll be plenty of subtle references but I don't think they'll want to cram too many on-the nose ones in. Finn's appearance in the first teaser and the Falcon flying similarly to ESB in the full trailer are nice references but they're not in your face.

funny world this starwars. After one of the biggest fights in the galaxy that resulted in a historical victory, only 3 people know what happened. It seems like most of the universe doesn't know what Jedi is or Sith therefore making Empire's grasp of territory look very limited rather than expansive.

I think the whole Jedi/Sith are a myth thing could've easily been resolved by twisting the numbers a bit and simply adding a few lines here and there, maybe have someone show utter disbelief at the existence of the Jedi.
