Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

I accepted after the Special Editions that these are his films. As much as we like to say they're "ours", they really aren't.

Once I accepted that, and kept my old VHS copies, I was content w/ the changes. I don't agree w/ all of them, but I always had to keep that in the back of my mind about him owning these films.

Obviously he doesn't anymore, so it would be great for Disney to go back and re-release a "definitive version" minus some of the more groan inducing additions (nnnnnoooooooo!!!!!), but I have my versions of the Blu-Ray if I want to see them in full HD glory, and I have my old VHS copies if I want to see them in their original form.

It's bullshit to claim you care about film preservation when you won't even properly preserve your own films, though.

The Republic carrier ships are pretty iconic too. The way they open up to release a bunch of clones armed to their teeth. Good stuff

Jedi Star fighters while cool, didn't leave a lasting impression

The scene where Finn faces Kylo in lightsaber battle is so intense. Love his look of facing his probable death.

Yeah I wonder how that's going to go down. It's very possible that there is simply no duel and that Finn just drops. Don't mean drops dead by that, but... loses pretty fast.

The thing that always bothered me about the statement of "Well, these are HIS movies!" is that, technically speaking, George only directed A New Hope. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were directed by Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand, respectively. ANH is one thing, I guess, but with the other two, Lucas was basically tampering with movies that weren't 100% his, if you know what I mean.

This is what I suspect happens. I'm assuming he has no real combat training yet and is only igniting the safer because he's cornered

Wonder if Luke will come to his aid and bail him out

Lucas pretty much directed Return of the Jedi. Marquand set up the shots and that is it. Carrie Fisher said actors got their direction from Lucas on Jedi

Lucas was in control of every aspect of production of both films. They are his vision. Kershner and Marquand were hired hands.

It's not a serious argument, anyway. I mean, if Lucas had replaced all three films with a looping 6-hour .gif of Jar Jar dancing in a black void, would people really say "well, I guess this is Star Wars now." There's a line where everyone would no longer accept the films as acceptable substitutes for the originals, it's just a question of how much artistic disintegrity you're willing to tolerate.

Feeling confident too.

But nerves will hit when that crawl starts, i think we will all know within the first 10 minutes whether the tone is right.

As long as the words "trade federation" and "senate" do not appear in the crawl, i think we are good.
It was this shot in particular:

that has me thinking we're in a good place. There's a certain pleasant vibe of adventure that I get from it. Something I personally never really got from the prequels.

Fun fact: Some of the flags in that shot have symbols seen in previous Star Wars movies. There's the Mandalorian skull symbol seen on Boba Fett's armor, and also a couple flags from the Episode 1 Pod Race.

RIP pretending that the prequels don't exist agenda

To be fair, it just seems to be a minor cameo background appearance. I can live with that considering you won't even notice it unless you're looking far into the background and/or remember what the flags at the Pod Race segment even looked like.

Now if we start seeing shit like Dexter Jettster and Jar Jar showing up right in the foreground doing important things, then yes, it's time to scream.

If Lucasfilm's treatment of post Jedi content is anything to go by. You'll be screaming soon.

They seem hellbent in tying everything into one giant saga.

Lucas pretty much directed Return of the Jedi.

No. Marquand directed Jedi. Lucas basically oversaw post production. But he definitely wasn't ghost directing that movie.

Also, Richard Chew and Paul Hirsch helped edit Star Wars, and Paul Hirsch also helped edit Empire.

Marquand maybe. Kershner, no. Lucas was pretty hands off w/r/t production on Empire. It's why he was way more hands on with Jedi - being that hands-off cost him a lot of money.

I don't think the duel between Finn and Kylo is gonna last long or even really happen. I don't even know if Finn is a force user. And if it turns out he is I don't think he could go from 0 to standing against a sith in one movie. Either Luke's gonna save him or something else is gonna interupt it. Luke vs Ren would be siiiiiiick

I mean at least Luke got two movies and some Yoda time :)

EXCUSE me? R2-D2 is adorable. Best character in Star Wars, besides maybe Vader

I know it's been stated a thousand times already (though even more than that), but god damn the CGI in the Prequel Trilogy is so awful looking. This looks like a video game adaptation of one of the films.

Comparing that gif to the stuff we've seen in the trailers really makes you appreciate TFA even more.

Jar-Jar
saves him

Stop that. Pretending the sequels don't exist is only going to bite you in the ass later on when prequel era cameos will come into play. It's never going to be crazy, but if you think it's not going to happen then you might not want to read too much into rumors about episode 8 with a certain actor rumored to be returning.

I think the point of part 1 will be that they are both novices with their own weaknesses and naive desires, and meeting Luke will sober them both. The next two will probably see their growth be driven by rivalry, Ren channeling it and Finn having to not give in to it.

That doesn't even look cgi. There are worse examples. You also have to remember cgi has been improved by a decade since the last movie. There is tons of cgi in the new trailer.

Watched New Hope last night since I've been so hyped about Star Wars lately.

I had completely forgotten how ridiculous the tacked on CGI was, haha.

Did they ever release a Blu-Ray version without any of the later bullshit that Lucas added?

Well, it looked CGI to me. And yeah it's probably not even the worst example, but still, it looks pretty bad. Honestly, even back then, the CGI for AOTC/ROTS looked pretty dated.

I don't it's just the CG in the prequels but that color design and cinematography was off. Most of the parts just looked like a tv series which gave everything that cheap touch.

Maybe a result of early digital recording, dunno.
