I know its a TFA thread but since we are all just waiting for the film: Anyone here seen The People vs George Lucas documentary?

I can recommend it, the documentary dives into 3 major parts: The altered versions of Star Wars and how hardcore fans felt betrayed. The prequels namely Phantom Menace and the future of Star Wars.

There is even footage of fans lining up for Phantom Menace and some cringe interviews, some girl said she would "remember this moment and tell her children about it" as she waited for Phantom Menace to start.

I liked it when the doc first came out but I was like 13 back then. So my opinion of it might change on a rewatch.

I think that they are not posting all of the showings in my area to force people to pay 3D and get those sellout numbers.

As you get closer to showdate I think some 2D screenings will pop up.

I'm not sure how this could be worse than the prequels. The trailers alone have more character than that whole trilogy. Most dogfood commercials have more character.

It's worth it! TCW absolutely saves the prequels from utter awfulness.

You should also check out Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars series. The entire thing has been spliced together on YouTube. I'd say it does the Padme-Anakin relationship better than anything else you'll find in the series.

The Blu-Ray set's great. I'd definitely recommend it.

I bought it. Sucks that there's no 1-6 set, but so be it. Should I watch the movie that's basically an intro to this series? Because I hear it's pretty crappy.

There's no such thing as a perfect documentary, but The People vs. George Lucas doesn't exist just to have fanboys whine about it on forums. They explore the artist implications and cultural repercussions of his decisions, from film preservationists and collectors, to cultural historians, to ranting and raving fanboys, to even those that defend his decisions even if they don't agree with them.

I rather enjoyed the film exploring just how much a piece of art belongs to its creator versus the people who assimilate it into their very culture and lifestyle, when the creation surpasses the creator.

Yep there's room for 2 people in the new tie fighters, pilot and gunner. You can see this in the lego set.

Early BBS Star Wars forums were scary as fuck. My exposure and attempted participation in those in the early-mid 90s is a major reason I gave up on Star Wars for years. Coming back for TPM didn't exactly help.

So, this commercial for Toys 'R Us is trying to mine the same sort of feel as that PS4 Battlefront commercial. Except it does it in all the wrongest ways.

It's basically a celebration of the ethos being mocked in this comic.

My almost 5 year old son is definitely into the same stuff I am into. Not sure if I did what the comic did or if it was because he saw me enjoying my hobbies that he also wanted to do it. Maybe it's because most kids stuff is Star Wars or Marvel atm too. He also likes the same sports team that I do. It's probably brainwashing.

It's only normal to want to bond with your kid over something you love. Most parents do that and there's nothing wrong with it unless you go crazy like some parents.

Nothing wrong with the Battlefront ad. The Toy's R Us one is sad because it portrays an obsessive father that can only connect with his daughter if she shares his nerdy passion. It's pathetic how he is only able to show affection to her when she shows an interest in Star Wars, at least as far as the ad is concerned. It gives a terrible message to both parents and kids.

To be honest, I fucking love the Naboo N-1 Starfighter. It doesn't look futuristic to me so much as retro-futuristic with that chrome finish and those sleek curves. Very much reminds me of an old car.

Memorable? Perhaps, it's the most striking for sure. But I liked a lot of the vehicles. The Jedi starfighters were fucking amazing.

I accepted after the Special Editions that these are his films. As much as we like to say they're "ours", they really aren't.

Once I accepted that, and kept my old VHS copies, I was content w/ the changes. I don't agree w/ all of them, but I always had to keep that in the back of my mind about him owning these films.

Obviously he doesn't anymore, so it would be great for Disney to go back and re-release a "definitive version" minus some of the more groan inducing additions (nnnnnoooooooo!!!!!), but I have my versions of the Blu-Ray if I want to see them in full HD glory, and I have my old VHS copies if I want to see them in their original form.

The new X-Wing is great, but I wouldn't have minded a more different design from the old one, especially since I prefer the old one's wing design.

I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them. I thought they were super sleek.

I also really liked the first Jedi Starfighter they introduced.
