I mean more power to you but I just don't see how you would enjoy this game then. This is like the most open world and long game you could play.

In simple terms, Fallout without a question. I need it now!

But I wouldn't play this game on an anniversary. My girl would be more important than a game.

I am hoping it will click. I think during Fallout 3 I was kind of in a gaming rut. If not no biggie.

Out of curiosity, why does it make a difference if you were married 200 years ago? People from all walks of life are married, it doesn't define who are what you are.

I cant speak for him, but people usually want to start out as a nameless wanderer. The appeal of these games comes from the fact that you make your own commitments/choices. Not have the commitments already predetermined for you.

Pre-ordered the official guide for this, never buy game guides but I plan to put 300+ hours on the game so hopefully it'll be worth it.

will wait for Reviews and at least one month of podcasts to grasp if this is a game that should be played even by a person that did like 3 that much and is starting to get a little fatigued of ticking side quests in The witcher and MGS open worlds.

Besides, Battlefront looks good (despite the lack of a campaign)

I'm so torn on prima's eGuide

On one hand, I want to travel the world not knowing anything about it

On the other hand, I want to play on the highest difficulty, and knowing the locations of items, quests etc would possibly make it a bit more enjoyable

I think you're probably fairly free of a marriage commitment from 200 years ago ;) Bethesda have said you can romance the human companions (regardless of your or their gender) which I think is telling. Apparently you can remove your wedding ring so there is no reminder.

200 years is probably the cleanest break from your old life of any modern Fallout game. Compare this to Fallout 3 which the story really wants to commit you to finding your dad who just disappeared or New Vegas where the story really wants to commit you having revenge on Benny.

In Fallout 4 you start out with everybody you know have died a long time ago, no job, no house and no commitments as far as I can see. Clean break, new life, go nuts! :)

Did people complain about being a postman in New Vegas?

is it known if you can play music on your PC through the pip-boy?

It just holds a phone, so you can do anything your phone does. EDIT: Wait, you mean the in-game one, don't you? Haha.

Just seen a Fallout 4 ad during the football. Woo, it's happening.

Still undecided on which version to buy.

You got 27 choices!

I hear you, I think I might go with PS4 just out of convenience because I don't think my computer will be up to par to run it like I want right now. Possible be interesting to see if mod support ever comes to that console in the future.

Oh please these games all have quest lines that must be followed to finish the game. The concept of a true blank slate is not possible. Even in NV you are still a guy/gal getting shot, an you still have to follow that quest.

Also I don't think there is a consensus that "people" usually want to do anything.

The PC version will have Nvidia Gameworks effects!!
We’ve learned that Nvidia has been working with the studio to implement effects from the GameWorks library into the game for some time. These will include things ranging from ambient occlusion to shadowing and lighting effects
According to what we’re being told Fallout 4 will be a much closer affair to GTA V, a fairly well optimized title across the board with collaborative efforts from both Nvidia and AMD.

HBAO+ and PCSS would be a great addition!

It depends whether you have the superpower rig required to run it effectively. I do and I play Killing Floor 2 often. It's definitely an awesome addition.

It's a good thing for PC players. It adds really good effects, such as HBAO+ which is the best AO solution, and soft shadows.
Hmmm... I got a gtx970. We'll see. Most important thing to me is having max draw distance and a solid fps. I come from a console background so im a very easy man to please

have they ever commented on how levelling of the character and baddies will work?

Player character leveling is, uh, the same as it ever was (no hard cap this time around though, but we can assume a soft cap at some point)? But instead of the old crappy Oblivion-style level scaling where everything leveled together with you (or even Skyrim where the level was locked to whatever level you first where when entering that area), the game will instead use zones on the map, each with a certain level range of enemies. So if zone X is level 20-30, and you go there at level 5, well... good luck.

awesome, exactly the way it should be

Has this been confirmed? You could just as easily be playing their kid or another descendent who looks uncannily like them.

It's the same character. We already know their baby's name, Shawn, Howard said. If the baby has a name then I'd guess it's possible we may end up seeing the kid in the wasteland.

It's certainly possible and I hope you do. I was more commenting on how you said you don't like open-world games or long games. But like you said, maybe this one will just click. One of the reason I always buy physical is because if a game doesn't click I can sell it right away and make most of my money back.

It's a problem if the person can't find their wife/husband. In other words, who's to say that they died in the vault? I don't think I'll engage in any romance until I know for sure that they died. Though there may be a way to write around that like the wife/husband has been living in the wasteland for 30 years and has moved on. It will be interesting to see where they take the story.

Maybe not even directly. What if your kid grew up to be a very famous/infamous and influential person in the wasteland? Imagine visiting your own child's grave. That could be some Luck of The Fryish level of feels.

That would certainly make for an interesting encounter: "Come on baby, I thought you were vaporized!"

Your family not surviving is the certainly the presented narrative, i.e. the sole survivor. That being said, who knows what twist the story may take. Or the DLC. Perhaps there will be sufficent early closure such as you finding the corpses/skeletons of your family. I'm personally not expecting to play long enough before the bombs falling to get attached to my spouse and child anyway. I'm not inclined to get emotionally attached to game characters as it is.

I'm really intrigued for the first 30-60 minutes of the game more than anything else and I'll probably spend a disproportionate amount of time exploring the vault for clues.

If I don't like it, someone on my steam sharing will. It will go into my huge pile of steam games if I don't like it. I really hope I do. MGS was my latest disappointment. I liked the game but I didn't like the repetition and so little story. If I am engaged in a story it makes open world easier for me.

Time was absolutely flying for me. Then i hit the wall a couple days ago. Now i find myself getting fed up of the wait. Far too impatient.

I find it really interesting that people play RPGs like actual role playing games. As in they play the character to fit a role.

I just play them to play them. Although Fallout 3 and Nv are the only RPGs I've played and ever will. So the whole talking character, or no kill runs, or the character being a husband or wife means anything at all to me.

Interesting all the same.

No matter how many times i played fallout 3 i was evil. Dont know why but i found it more fun. Nevermind each to their own.

I'm gonna guess you find them alive but altered somehow. Like maybe your wife is some crazed muscle bound super mutant and you have to put her out of her misery.

I had ordered the Ultimate Vault Dweller's Survival Guide and the Art Book from Amazon but at time of checkout, I noticed there was no option for release date shipping (November 10th and December 22nd, respectively)

I contacted Amazon and asked what I needed to do to ensure release date delivery and they kindly upgraded me free of charge and assured me they'd arrive on their release dates. So if you have these ordered from Amazon, it might be prudent to get in touch to verify you'll receive them on day one.

Secondly, the Ultimate Vault Dweller's Survival Guide just dropped in price, so I should get a notification on that too! Thanks Amazon :)

Pip Boy Edition (PC)
Gold Edition w/ socks (PS4)

Your son will be the main antagonist I'm guessing.

FALLOUT is the only RPG series I truly enjoy playing an evil character. I think it's because of the dog-eat-dog survival nature of the world it's set in. It just seems more plausible.

Pip Boy Edition (PC)
Gold Edition w/ socks (PS4)
Ultimate Dweller's Survival Guide
The Art of Fallout 4

I'm ready.

I have my

Pipboy Edition (PS4)
Fallout 4 loot crate
GAME exclusive Tshirt and bobblehead

I want to get the guide but I am not sure which to get as there are 4 types

Eguide
Normal guide
CE guide with Lithographs
CE guide with Lithographs, Nuka Cola bottle opener and bottle cap fridge magnets.

nVidia GameWorks effects sounds great, but I am more excited for it being a well optimized title similar to GTA V! Having that level of performance right out of the box would be great, especially if it means less bugs.

Optimisation of GTAV wasn't achieved by R* being best pals with one GPU manufacturer, but by R* having both [AMD & Nvidia] around the table as equals. They implemented NVidia stuff, they implemented AMD stuff and went ham with optimising to both platforms.

CE guide with Lithographs, Nuka Cola bottle opener and bottle cap fridge magnets.

Where do you get that one?

I just have a few things but I work retail so I'm kinda poor and probably spending more than I should anyways.

Fallout Pip Boy Edition
C.E. Game guide (only gotten cause it's a C.E. version and it was only 23 bux)
And a pop art deathclaw figure.
Fallout NCR hoodie (because that ties in with my favorite fallout so far, New Vegas. Plus the original fallouts :). And, I have a tendency to side NCR. Oh, and it's cleverly subtle enough that it's neater when a Fallout fan recognizes it :) ).

I was totally going to get the lootcrate one until they charged 100 dollars for it and nothing they announced that was going to be in it was something I really desired. I already picked a hoodie I liked better than the 101 one (I'd like that as an extra but I wouldn't have even paid 60 bux for it, I already choose the ncr one instead) and the dogmeat doll looked like a Pug. They totally could have probably sold it to me either if the dogmeat one actually looked like dogmeat or alternatively it was 40-60 bux. The 40-60 dollars would have been worth it just cause I was excited about getting a mystery box of Fallout stuff it would have been worth it just for the mystery aspect (or 100 if I knew I was getting at least something I really liked). Yeah, I'm a little disappointed about the lootcrate one. I suppose they saved me money I guess.
