I call a truce. No more dumb white party goers in black face, and no black male comedians in fat suits. I think we can all safely agree the world will be a better place when this historic contract is put into action.
The blackface isn't necessary if the costume is good. I had a white friend in college that went as Plaxico Burress in 2009 and managed to get the message across without going blackface.
Black face alone is racist, there is no context where it's not.This.
The vast majority of black faces are just racist but I don't know about this one. It looks like just a couple of morons trying to look like a famous couple and one of them happens to be black. I don't see any racist stereotype like big lips and hair etc...
The bigger issue is the dismissal..
How many people got mad at Dave?

There seems to be a distinction between hateful black face and skin painting, at least to me. I'm not black, but I'm not offended by either example.
So he just acted like he shot himself in the leg the whole night?
This is what Kanye means though. Irreverence with a touch of class, the ill fitting jeans with a t-shirt. A cap turned worn backward, and some 80s sunglasses. And of course a gold chain.
I mean Kanye is black...it's not like he put any sterotypical features of a black man on his blackface. It's not in good taste but it is a Halloween costume that is meant to be dumb.
Should I keep my trap shut, sweetie? Is this not a forum to, I don't know, discuss things? Do you think this conversation remains here? Yeah..SnS.Yeah, let's get all worked up about it on neogaf.com instead, that will fix things.

All blackface is racist.

Racist!! Oh, wait..![]()
Okay, maybe the costume isn't 100% screen accurate, but you know who he is.
Without bothering to google, I am just going to assume there have been 20 Tyler Perry movies in the interim. The last time humans had to suffer through that was Norbit.
That's really convenient!

If his costume wasn't shitty he wouldn't have to be in blackface for anyone to get it.
Here's someone's costume, playing a black character, sans blackface, the right way:
All blackface is racist.
I was at a Halloween-party last year, when a guy came as Lil Wayne with blackface. Being an isolated town in Sweden, I was the only one at the party that had heard of blackface, minstrel shows etc etc. I started talking with him, and I just asked him "Why did you paint your face black dude?". He just looked at me like I was an idiot, and replied "I just really like Lil Wayne dude, he's awesome!".
All blackface is racist.
Alright, let's look at this from another angle. You see a lot of men dressing up as women for Halloween, should they skip the fake breasts?
People need to chill being offended by this nonsense.
So you hate Robert Downey, Jr too, right?

Or does he get a pass because Comic Superhero?

I get the history of blackface, but is this really racist?

You really comparing a fictional alien race to black people? Really? What about Klingons at a Star Trek convention?
Obviously he was wrong. This was a comedy about the ridiculousness of blackface.
Is it equally convenient that I'm white and Dave's whiteface didn't bother me?
I find minstrel and Belgian blackface highly offensive, because of the context and representation.

Let's ask his co-workers and students, many of whom happen to be black.
Dude is clowning in black makeup. There's no separating that act from how it has been carried out for centuries in the States.
