I call a truce. No more dumb white party goers in black face, and no black male comedians in fat suits. I think we can all safely agree the world will be a better place when this historic contract is put into action.

The blackface isn't necessary if the costume is good. I had a white friend in college that went as Plaxico Burress in 2009 and managed to get the message across without going blackface.

So he just acted like he shot himself in the leg the whole night?

This.

The vast majority of black faces are just racist but I don't know about this one. It looks like just a couple of morons trying to look like a famous couple and one of them happens to be black. I don't see any racist stereotype like big lips and hair etc...
Black face alone is racist, there is no context where it's not.

Yeah Kanye one and only defining feature is he is black, not only black but looks like he has a horrible skin condition.

This is what Kanye means though. Irreverence with a touch of class, the ill fitting jeans with a t-shirt. A cap turned worn backward, and some 80s sunglasses. And of course a gold chain.

Yep, shit costume.

He painted his skin brown and is holding a sign. Come on.

I mean Kanye is black...it's not like he put any sterotypical features of a black man on his blackface. It's not in good taste but it is a Halloween costume that is meant to be dumb.

If his costume wasn't shitty he wouldn't have to be in blackface for anyone to get it.

Here's someone's costume, playing a black character, sans blackface, the right way:

How many people got mad at Dave?

There seems to be a distinction between hateful black face and skin painting, at least to me. I'm not black, but I'm not offended by either example. The Kanye face painting doesn't seem to be negative, judging by the one still photo. Features aren't exaggerated, sign isn't racist, etc.

That's really convenient!

Yeah, let's get all worked up about it on neogaf.com instead, that will fix things.

Actually, having a discussion and bringing things to light about how awful this shit is does drive progression. Many topics have people turning their thoughts around because they genuinely don't know why something is offensive.

At the very least, it's a reminder that this shit is still a constant and still needs to be fixed.

But hey man, continue topic whining and deflecting. That'll fix things!

The last time humans had to suffer through that was Norbit.

How are these people so ignorant? Did they not even read the previous Neogaf threads about it? How many smh's will it take to rid the world of these terrible racists?

I was at a Halloween-party last year, when a guy came as Lil Wayne with blackface. Being an isolated town in Sweden, I was the only one at the party that had heard of blackface, minstrel shows etc etc. I started talking with him, and I just asked him "Why did you paint your face black dude?". He just looked at me like I was an idiot, and replied "I just really like Lil Wayne dude, he's awesome!".

I get so angry when I see white people who know damn well how offensive and insensitive blackface is doing it regardless and finding every way to excuse it. My culture is not a costume. You don't get to put on some paint or a terrible spray tan on for one night and live out your stereotypical fantasies about what it means to be black and then go back to your life without ever stopping to understand the struggles that people of color go through.

Okay, maybe the costume isn't 100% screen accurate, but you know who he is.

I don't understand how you can look at these costumes and think they would be improved in any way by the guys painting their skin black.

The people who claim buh buh buh accuracy are fools.

Good examples.

Alright, let's look at this from another angle. You see a lot of men dressing up as women for Halloween, should they skip the fake breasts?

As a woman, I can't say I'm offended at all by a dude dressing up as a girl and stuffing some socks into a bra.

Yep. It doesn't always have to have a racist element to it. It sounds like that guy just really wanted to look like someone he really admires. Nothing wrong in that.

All blackface is racist.

I don't believe that. Surely it's got to do with the intent rather then the outcome.

That's not really another angle. That's actually incomparable, considering blackface has a deeply rooted racial history and dressing up as a woman does not.

People need to chill being offended by this nonsense.

Outrage culture, right boys? /s

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I'm pretty sure black face is tar black clown paint with red lips. This isn't that.

Is it equally convenient that I'm white and Dave's whiteface didn't bother me?

I find minstrel and Belgian blackface highly offensive, because of the context and representation.

The whiteface shouldn't bother you because there's no history of segregation and racism anchored to it. Blackface should bother you because there is.

Let's ask his co-workers and students, many of whom happen to be black.

Dude is clowning in black makeup. There's no separating that act from how it has been carried out for centuries in the States.

I think a distinction needs to be made: is he clowning black people? Or is he clowning Kanye?

Going by the costume pair, I'd say they are clowning Kanye and Kim.
