This is the point I don't understand though.

People want to avoid racism by trying to pretend we're all the same. I find that quite the contrary. We should be celebrating we are different, and embracing it.

Dress up as nick fury but forget the fact he is black because that is racist? Are you kidding me? Trying to hide the fact he is black is more racist than embracing the fact. The way I say it, I am admiring a black character through to the end.

I don't get what people here are trying to say, the way I see it you are preventing further progression.

Nobody is telling you to ignore that Nick Fury is Black. But you don't need to drudge up the dirty history of blackface for a fucking costume. Shave your head, put an eye patch on, get a SHIElD badge. Boom, you're done. Luckily there is a white Nick Fury too, so everybody is happy.

This has nothing to do with pretending we're all the same, or saying we're all different. In the United States, there was a practice of putting on black makeup and perpetuating stereotypes. It's a sore subject. Why does it hurt some people so bad that it might not be cool to put makeup on their face to pretend they're another race. You're not some racial equality trailblazer because you want a movie accurate Nick Fury. Just let it go...

People already tryin to dethrone CharlieDigital huh?

You have to be fucking joking.

As has been said too many times in this thread, blackface has roots in what is essentially racism. If you are white or any race other then black, YOU DON'T DO IT!

That's why i'm saying you are halting progression. You are so scared of going back to the roots of racism you just avoid it.

Not Repeating history is important, but evolving from it is another story. Just because blackface was racist in the past, does not mean it cannot evolve to an equal stance. Imo, dresing up as a black character, but avoiding the fact he is black is more racist than actually dressing up as the character faithfully. I don't care if dressing up as that character avoiding the colour of thier skin has been done successfully before, if you want to have a white nick fury cosplay without being racist, it works. Same way as you could have a hispanic female nick fury, crossovers exist. However, also wanting to dress up as the character faithfulyl should also be an option, imitation being the most sincere form of flattery after all. That is not racist. Ridicule and hyperbole are what is racist. What you want to do is ban everything altogether just to avoid being seen as racist, that is 2 steps backwards, not progression.

To those who try and defend this shit, ponder this.

Kim Kardashian has a more enlightened viewpoint on the subject than you. Hold that L to your chest and let it sink in.

It is an option, and you are welcome to do it, but you will also look like an ass. You are allowed to dress up as whatever you want, and paint your skin however you want, all in the name of fucking cosplay, just don't be surprised when you are met with a negative reaction to it, because you don't get to tell people when they should get over being offended by something. Not everybody has to go along with your "progress in the name of cosplay" plan.

I find this funny, since I think people who want to just forget about the past and move to this ideal world where it doesn't matter are in fact avoiding racism. And please, there are a ton of ways of celebrating diversity than black face.

How is it forgetting he's black? You think people need every detail to see the full picture? What I'm saying is that if you don't need blackface to represent a character, why do it knowing the history behind it?

I agree with this 100%. You can do whatever you want as long as you can accept the consequences.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Like clockwork indeed. We seem to have this thread every year. Every year we have a huge discussion about why this is offensive. Every year people still don't get it and get banned. Or more likely they don't care enough to listen. Nice way to cull the forum is the bright side.

I anticipate more of this shit now that Ben Carson's campaign is selling a Halloween costume. I wonder if the brain surgeon thought about this at all. At least now a select few people can be twice as idiotic. Double the pleasure double fun. Morans.

Sure, blame me for this, lol do you even read the shit you are spewing? Not even going to bother picking apart the rest of your inane post. The fact of the matter is, you can be as faithful as you want to the character. But if you have to resort to blackface, then that says more about you then your feelings of being authentic.

this is some crazy shit. suddenly not engaging in blackface is actively engaging in whitewashing. guys, we've been the racists the entire time

Uh huh...yeah, except people have had parties on college campuses where they let people go in Blackface and it devolves (as if it can get lower) to stereotypes and caricature...which it is. You really thing the Kanye thing would have ended respectfully?

I get what you're trying to say, and it would be nice if we lived in a colorblind society that had no history of racial persecution. But you don't seem to understand that just because you think something is okay, doesn't mean it won't offend and bring up an extremely sensitive issue.

Honestly, the not racist thing to do is acknowledge that "Hey, blackface was a thing. Maybe I don't want to dig up that past while people are trying to have a good time."

Your argument with blackface can easily be applied to the word "nigger." I mean it's just a word, we should be able to get past it, right?

Blackface is messed up. I still remember watching the Spanish F1 race and seeing people in the crowd wearing it and waving bananas . They kept shouting racial abuse at Lewis Hamilton and there was even a little kid doing it.

Back to the OP yep the guy needs to get fired. I don't know why he thought it was a good idea.

Edit: Shit look at all the bans.

I can't believe someone tried to argue Latinos can't be racist for engaging in blackface among other appropriations. I'm Latino and that doesn't fly with me. Absolutely no excuse and glad he was dealt with. It truly is groundhog day here, but at least Phil understood and changed in the movie. Not so much with certain people here.

The worst part is you know this shit is gonna happen again next year.

Also, why do people seem to be stuck on Graduation era Kanye with the shutter shades and all that shit?

Because that's the only era Kanye ever had in terms of fashion. This isn't like Korean pop where you can tell what song was what because of the shit they wore in a specific MV.

Then again I barely watch music videos, and Kanye doesn't seem to be the one who pushes fashion boundries so

Your ideal is understandable but not realistic. It'd be great to live in a world where blackface doesn't have the horrible history and racism attached to it and where racism is still going on, but that's not how it is and ignoring that huge part is in fact ignoring racism itself.

The fact that you find people acknowledging the history and not ignoring it to fit some ideal where you don't have to ever feel uncomfortable or discuss racism as in fact racist is just ridiculous. You're the one deflecting and avoiding, don't get your shit twisted.

Wait. Is Kanye actually gonna be the president come 2020? I would interpret that as the natural evolution of his career, that of a modern day Caesar in the arts.
