Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

I don't suppose Bethesda has a website where we can plan our special and perks now do they?

Nothing official, but give this look; http://vault111.com/character/ That character creator is what we can expect from final game.

Except for weapon and armor modding are tied into Strength. The way they do perks, there really is no useless stat.

Str 3 for Armorer and Str 4 for Weaponsmith. So they are super early into tree and I bet most want put 3-4 into Str for increased carry weight anyways. 3 if you plan on energy weapons, 4 if going for normal weapons and/or melee.

Making a build now feels kind of pointless when we don't know how the mechanics have changed. For example:

-Without skills, there are no skill points. Getting extra skill points was arguably the most useful feature of INT, how will they make up for that?

-If crits are tied to a bar now, are sneak attack crits still a thing?

-With no info on DR & DT systems, we have no idea which methods of attack and defense will be most effective. God-Tier in FO3 amounted to getting a combat shotgun and bumrushing enemies for close-range VATS headshots, or being a stealth sniper and oneshotting everything with the Victory Rifle. No clue if this will be replicated here.

Tossing this thing on Very Hard and just winging it seems like the most interesting option. Experimenting with different possibilities until I find what I like.

With 21 points you can put 3 into all 7, making your character a 4 all around build. Not bad and if the way you get more special is by leveling you could easily have All 10 by LVL 42.

  • Doesn't Intellect increase XP gains from things you do meaning more often level ups meaning more often points to use to increase SPECIAL and/or Perk ranks? Also intellect specific perks.
  • I think you can do crits without that bar thing, but bar in VATS is guaranteed crit. Or do I just understand that system wrong?
  • OP builds and shit will be discovered post-launch, just like with any game like this.

I just planned my S.P.E.C.I.A.L points at vault111 and this is what I came up with.

S 1
P 4
E 1
C 5
I 6
A 7
L 4

Mentioned it before that this will be my first Fallout game. Is there a way to increase my base specials after the initial 28 points?

Also is there any base silencer weapon in the Fallout series? I don't have anything in strength so I don't think I'll be craft anything on my own.

How much should I put into Perception to be an affective thief?

Yes at level up you can select either a perk, or you can elect to raise a SPECIAL point by 1

Under FO4's leveling up system you can decide if you want to use your level up point to increase SPECIAL stat, to unlock new perk or unlock new tier to already unlocked perk.

I'm surprised if FO4 doesn't feature some suppressed weapons, especially now that they have extensive crafting system in place. Officially we don't know if game has or doesn't have suppressed weapons.

Agility affects your ability to sneak and pickpocket more than Perception. I think you are fine with Perception 4 if you only want invest into it for lockpicking perk.

I'm sure we'll be able to tweak the UI without mod tools, I'd imagine that stuff is only needed for bigger mod projects, new quest lines, overhauls etc

I wouldn't count on it, modding Gamebryo/Creation without the toolkit is a significant issue. History will probably repeat itself with the Skyrim situation, where every thread becomes moaning about lack of mod tools.

The good news is the modding toolkit is apparently more fully formed this time, and has a packager which can import straight into Xbox One (and later PS4).

Thanks for the link guys, went ahead and built a preliminary character. I think I'm fine with this build unless there's a perk agreed upon by many here as being necessary that I wouldn't unlock with this.

My biggest concern right now is that there's a perk in agility I really want called 'Sandman' or something like that, that gives you
an instant kill option for sleeping enemies
but I'll decide if it's worth it depending on how often I see those type of enemies.

I wonder how much effort they'll put into sneaking in this game. In Elder Scrolls titles I tend to play the dagger wielding silent type, in this title it'll likely mean sneaking up on enemies and then initiating combat with massive damage.

At the same time the extra point in Charisma might be useless perks-wise at the beginning since it unlocks a perk that is useful once you have multiple settlements. So maybe I'll consider putting that point elsewhere at first if it's recommended.

Won't matter on the PC, there will be small UI/inventory/etc. mods out within the first 2 days, tools or not.

If you look back at Skyrim, SkyrimUI dropped a month after launch. If you look at the mods on launch they were very basic - the first one on Skyrim Nexus was actually a female nude texture mod (OF COURSE).

Launch day had these:

No Dirty Bodies by ViperSlayer
Detailed Faces by Xenius
No More Blocky Faces by Xenius
I Wash by Blocky
See Earth from Skyrim by Vince

(And the nude female mod). People basically worked out texture changes.

Is the pre-load up?
Has been for a couple of weeks now.

We all had a big arguement about how having the preload up meant it was "Gold". A few said it didn't but it clearly means it is because if it wasn't, what the fuck did we all just download? Plus Publishers have to give Sony and Microsoft the finished game so they can certify it and put it up for download or preload.

So basically, it went gold ages ago...

I'll probably go with something like this. Most interesting perks are around level 3 and 4, then just put the rest to intelligence to level up more quickly since the start.

So like with Halo 5, I guess I need to delete the placeholder then reinstall?

Yeah, the full pre-load is indeed up on Xbox One. I just deleted the placeholder file that I originally downloaded, selected reinstall and it is now pre-loading. Good deal.

Which means Str is useless stat for player who doesn't want do melee combat. Just rush early settlement up [I bet we get default one set up into our old house at beginning of game] and keep teleporting loot into there, while keeping only essentials on your person as you explore.

Magically transferring stuff to your base doesn't make a lot of sense and makes the Strong Back (level 7 STR) perk a nonsense. Perhaps this is referring to transferring to a [off screen] Brahmin caravan that has already been mentioned.

edit: or a companion.

The preload has been up on Xbox One for weeks.

Also, there's now a large day one patch up (that was what I was downloading).

Ah.. make sense. I preordered for the PS4 but don't have the option to preload yet. I guess I'll have to wait for 4 days before release.

I cant speak for him, but people usually want to start out as a nameless wanderer. The appeal of these games comes from the fact that you make your own commitments/choices. Not have the commitments already predetermined for you.

If you aren't taking Fallout 1, 2, 3 and NV into consideration, then you're absolutely right.

With the xbox one version giving you fallout 3. I swear I read before that you can get it up to 90 days after fo4 releases but now it just says to pre order. I want fo3 but also don't want to commit until digital foundry looks it over

Some mod existing is not a consensus. I mean is this a serious rebuttal?

No. It is not a rebuttal. You said there weren't many people who would want to play like that. I gave an example that there are a lot of people that do.

Nothing else for me to say really.

*shrugs*

Anyways, I might go on a F4 blackout. Im getting the jitters.

No, I said there is no consensus. I was aware of people being interested, as I like to play "blank slate" sometimes myself.

Time for me to finish Witcher 3?

You can never finish Witcher 3. Not with all the DLCs combined with New Game+.

It's basically the only reason I'm not getting Fallout 4. Sometime in late 2016 when I'm finishing up my New Game+ Blood and Wine run I'll pick up Fallout 4 Legendary Edition.

Well the DLCs arent apart of the main game, and new game + is the same game, but restarted.. correct? So it is possible :P

its less than two weeks away did they show the map yet ?
i just wanna know if its bigger than 3. thought that was a bit too small

Shotguns were crap in VATS. You got one bonus from a critical hit in VATS. Outside of VATS, every pellet from the shot got the bonus, of which there were 12.

Surprisingly what I just noticed with that screen is that we'll be able to melee with ranged weapons now. I wonder what skill a gun's melee damage falls under.

Yup, lots a standard shooter mechanics coming to Fallout 4, although that mechanic could be behind a perk!

Well that's the way the game works that's why. You have to have a 1 in every category. So therefore you can only add 21 points and not 28.

Well like Klendathu mentioned already, 1 is the minimum so it's not like you'll be able to set the attributes to 0 in-game, either.

Not yet. Bethesda (Todd maybe? Might've been someone else) did say that it's roughly similar to Skyrim in size, except this time around there won't be any mountains in the middle of the map blocking your way, so effectively the worldspace is quite a bit larger. Skyrim had quite a few inaccessible mountain ranges within the playable area.

So happy! Bought a random £1.99 steam key from a key reseller and won the promotion for a free Fallout 4 key. Makes a change, every other random key I've ever bought has been mostly shite.
