That makes sense. SF4 was odd though, they went aggressively heavy on new characters early on with Home and Super and then slowed down.
17 characters Arcade, Jul 2008
7 months later +8 characters, Feb 2009 (Home)
14 months later +10 characters, Apr 2010 (Super)
Then over a year for AE to add just 4 and three years for Ultra to add just 5.
6 per year will take us nearly 5 years to hit the amount that Ultra has. I hope you are right that they ramp it up later. But I'd prefer something where you get a steady trickle and then a big dump once a year. February release date, so do a new character every 3 months except for on each February anniversary where they instead drop 6 at once alongside a major balance patch. That'd be 9 a year.
Yea its actually surprisingly low , and here I was expecting 1 character every month and no characters on EVO month and Capcom Cup.
I dont see how they can make SSF4 or even AE,USF4 level of money by just releasing 6 characters a year.
USF and AE sold around 500k at retail and a ton of DLC , SSF4 was at 2m+. Honestly how much can they make off 6 characters which are also free if you collect enough points. I suppose they are going to be ridiculously pricey , because 2 months seems like enough time to save up dat fight money.
But that could change if they did Super,AE level upgrades every year with stuff like new stages,mechanics,characters..etc as a giant update. Even other Mobas do this , with a pretty big patch that changes a lot of things.
