What if Trump wins?

I can only speak for me. If Trump wins, and he has an actually really good VP, and if the dem nom is Hillary and a really shitty VP, then I would be begrudgingly relieved. I am not a fan of him at all, but he doesn't make me terrified of the "what if he wins" scenario like some prior candidates for me, namely Mitt Romney/Ryan which thankfully didn't win. Thank goodness Obama won that one.
 
I'm kind of into him winning in a certain sense. Force a Constitutional Crisis. I expect we'd see a massive erosion of Executive powers.

His Mexican wall rhetoric leads me to believe that if he wins, his victory will be a victory for xenophobia in the United States.

Ideas not worth spreading but spread from the executive office, basically a step backwards.
 
We would elect a democratic majority in the house out of spite after he has fucked up his first two years and then in 2020 we elect a democratic president with a democratic house and senate because of how terribly the GOP ran the country and we would all live happily ever after.

His judicial appointments would be felt for decades. The supreme court would have a conservative supermajority until I retire.
 
Besides an America that's respected in the World again? An America that puts Americans first? An America that returns to its roots of Made in the USA besides Made in China? An America that negotiates from a position of strength instead of leading from behind?
 
Would it really matter that much? Most of the decisions are made by large groups of people and there are checks and balances in place to prevent any branch of government from causing too much damage.

I think the president is important but power is spread throughout that it doesn't matter that much, does it?
 
If he wins, the GOP establishment would unite with the dems to form a coalition and pass meaningful legislature that helps millions of Americans in order to prevent Trump from enacting any damanging executive orders. The country will cheer on the new Congress and rally behind their teamwork, and usher in a new era of American greatness.

The chief of staff walks into the oval office. Donald Trump has his back to the door.

"Mr. President, the whole country hates you. They think you're the worst commander in chief we've ever had, and they'd do anything to get rid of you. Former senatorial enemies are literally holding hands in the halls."

The chief of staff leaves. A tear rolls down Trump's cheek, as it curves around a faint smile.

"It's my small sacrifice to the land I so love."

No it's not. Way, way too early and the poll numbers don't show him that far ahead anyway.

Will it though? I mean he IS a large percentage of this population, in terms of what those voting for him really want. And he is most definitely an adequate Republican representative. They have the money at the top, an American success story that is Trump who proves what happens when you work hard. I mean how more Republican can a person get?

The ships aren't as intact as they look. The sudden pressures from the massive water displacement damaged most of close range ships, and THEN you had the radiated water raining down on everything. You wouldn't have survived if you were on one of those boats.

Not in Canada he didn't. All I can see from here is a guy who massively increased drone strikes, panders to fortune 500 corporations, is working to create a security state worthy of 1984, tried to persecute Edward Snowden, and defended government torturers. I've yet to meet another Canadian who genuinely likes his presidency.
 
We would get into an immediate war with Russia after Trump refers to Vladimir Putin as a "total loser" who is "completely clueless".

And whenever someone starts sounding smarter than them when discussing the parties/candidates, their brain goes into defense mode and they start belittling them with the same tired canard.

Grow the fuck up. It's because of this attitude that Gore and Kerry both lost, and democrats continue losing midterm elections.

Naw. There are three polls in the links. One on approval of Obama in Canada (58%), another on if Obama was good for Canada (60%), and then the third is Obama vs. Romney (65% vs. 7%). :P

Obamamania is real brah. You think all those people partying outside the US in 2008 were for the lulz? We were actually really fucking happy that Bush was out of office and some sanity can return to the world.

Harper's damaging social policies largely came in after he was elected a third time. I remember that election, he seemed like a good choice at the time. The Liberal's weren't viable to a lot of people, and the NDP were too far left for others. Harper had competently managed the government for two terms and seemed like the right choice. It was only in his last term that he really started on these dumb policies and pandering to the far right.

I'm not saying that I went out and interviewed Canadian's from across the country to find their opinions on Obama. I'm just pointing out that he is not universally loved by a long shot. I'm sorry if you find my opinions of your president disagreeable.

This was definitely something I remember everywhere.
 
I'm not sure why people think nothing will change. Regardless of presidential outcome republicans will still likely control both houses of congress. They can easily pass a lot of slimy economic policies. They have very similar philosophies on a lot of matters to the point that they could work together. Also a whole lot of change has happened everytime a new president takes office. Clinton, Bush and Obama's first terms radically changed America. I don't known where people get this philosophy that the president can't make radical changes to the country even with a dysfunctional congress. I know people were dissapointed with Obama's first term for not getting enough done but it was because he kept trying to reason with the other side. His 2nd term he has accomplished a lot more because he doesn't care anymore and is using the executive power that he has had all along to enforce these changes. Any president elected in 2016 has access to these same powers and can use it if they wish.
 
On the one hand I want him to win so we can have Republicans see first hand how bad he'd be and how terrible things can actually get.

On the other hand he feels like a cartoon and I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing he had his finger on the button.
 
Trump leans left on a number of social issues, correct? I wonder what sort of Supreme Court appointees he would come up with.
