Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

There should be, I'd never want to play someone on the other side of the planet
Agreed. I'm getting dumped in to US servers ffs. It's like 343 just dont want people to have the best experience possible. Josh Holmes posted on slaent that they consider everything over 100ms to be unacceptable. Yet I have been matched in games higher than that I am sure. More 343 bullshit.

Admittedly it is not as frequent as the beta. But it is still happening.

I am basing my ping off of titanfalls where I would ping the east cost at 120ms

So I posted this in the Elite controller OT and thought I would post it here as well since that thread has been pretty quiet lately and I'm sure a lot of you purchased an Elite controller to play Halo with. So here it is:

If anyone is like myself and has very long play sessions, and using all 4 paddles is starting to strain your wrists or perhaps you cant get used to the new way of gripping the controller, i just tried something that feels very comfortable and works well for me and hopefully you as well.

I took off the two longer paddles and only kept the two smaller paddles. I put one on bottom right, and the other top left. It feels amazing and very natural this way. I've only been playing Halo so I mapped the bottom right paddle for jumping, and the top left paddle for reloading. I hope this helps!

Loving using the Elite in Halo 5. I had to wreck and relearn some muscle memory but after a day of playing I'm getting quite used to it. My current elite setup is:

Default Halo 5 control scheme
Top Left Paddle: thrust
Bottom Left Paddle: weapon swap
Top Right Paddle: jump

I left reload on X and swapped the longer Bottom Right Paddle with the the shorter top one and left the top one in the carrying case. The way my hands rest on the controller, it's better to have the longer paddle in the top right slot. Feels really natural that way, for me anyway.

for the love of god, I used to not stink this much.

Are there any tips for MP for someone who hasn't played halo since halo 4 came out?

Really enjoying this, but the multiplayer maps just have no personality. They all feel sort of the same, look the same. I like maps like Isolation, Snow Bound or Battle Creek. None of these levels even have vehicles on them...

I had a hard time adjusting, but you really need to be aggressive. Use boost a lot, since you wont recharge shields if you sprint.

Warzone is like crack. Just had two matches in a row where I beasted it. First match we were down the whole game, but won it via the Warden in the end. And this was after he regened health(which is bullshit). All of Warden's attacks in multiplayer are EMPs, which makes it hard to fight. At one point we had three ghosts and a tank on him. Second match we had a steady lead the entire time, they got the Warden, but still lost. 1000 to 911.

Just finished it solo on Heroic,
fuck that 3 way warden fight, jesus. The story fell a bit flat for me. The hunt for master chief never really exists, one fistfight and Locke gets destroyed, okay. Halo 4 was just so much more exciting. The MP is very good and it will keep me coming back.

Just beat that thanks to a tip I read in here:
you can shoot him in the face. I thought you could only shoot him in the back and he refused to turn his back on me. Once I started going for the face I killed him after only a few deaths.
What weapons did you use? What did you order your squad to do? I meed to finish my legendary playthrough

There's a Lightrifle behind where you start. That's what I used. That and I used a SAW I had on me already but I just used it for the other enemies. Anything else would do for that purpose.

I told my squad to attack the Warden as soon as I could and took out as many crawlers as possible while making my way up to the top area where I stayed until I killed the Warden. I'd say it took under 2 minutes in the run where I killed him. I was surprised. I didn't really miss a single shot though.

I'm fucking convinced the game uses some sort of lose condition if u use a gambit card in Warzone. I've only lost games I've used cards on.

ONI warthog beats everything

Pretty sure me and the gunner survived two scorpion hits in that clip.

Edit: Wardens sword after he lunges looks cool

Anyone else find the winning stances a little bland and annoying?, they just stand there looking up in such an awkward way....

I wasn't a fan of the body pumps in the beta, but I prefer it to this....

Also I'm still finding the sensitivity really weird. It seems to stay on the target a little too long, making the turning and swaying speeds always inconsistent. If someone is shooting you from 90 degrees, by the time your character turns to look, your already dead. It seems so.... Slow and inconsistent?

Halo 3 seems less sticky with the AA and picking off players not directly in front of you was always an option...

Also can someone explain how this card system works, Ive unlocked countless needlers, saws and ghosts, but once I dismiss the opening page, these cards are never to be seen again....

I recall getting a few "random weapon" cards, but where is everything, and how does this work?

So the cards you mentioned are used entirely in the Warzone side of multiplayer. Think of them like playing cards. You start a game, and build up levels. Once you have enough levels, you can call in a card. So a needler only costs 2 or 3, whereas a more powerful gun or vehicle might cost 5 +. You're getting doubles of things because once you play a card, it's gone forever.

If you go to your spartan hub, look under 'Requisitions' for 'collection' and you can see what you have so far.

The random weapon cards are kind of cool, you might get lucky and end up with a more powerful weapon then you normally get at that level.

Great!, thank you!!

I've only been playing arena, hence why I haven't seen them being used

In Warzone, as you play your REQ level will go up. As it goes up you get a similar amount of REQ points to spend on your cards. You can use those cards 2 ways, first as you spawn, you can press Y to open your REQ collection. It'll tell you what you can use at that point. The other way is at the REQ stations (the green console things in the bases) by walking up to them and pressing X.

Edit: Glass got ya covered.

Fun side note: you can refill the ammo for your loadout weapons by walking next to a REQ station, doesn't matter if you control the base either.

Double Edit: This was fun http://xboxclips.com/Gamefreak2590/788790d0-379d-42bc-9f79-b778c1e030d7

Heh, I should keep a copy pasta and save myself a lot of typing. It does look a bit complicated on paper, and probably sounds complicate when trying to explain, but seeing it in action reveals its pretty simple. The Mister Chief video might have been a good guide to have in one of the menus.

you dont use one for Melee? i hate having Melee on right bumper...

When my elite arrives im going to have the following setups for the 4 paddles.

- Run (i.e Left Click)
- Jump
- Thrust
- Melee

Toooootal bullshit.
I agree, I thought Osiris was full of decent-to-good characters in their own right. Besides Buck, I especially liked Vale
for all of the interesting Sangheili background she gives you later in the game. Also, Cortana provides some cool details about Osiris when she's taunting the team in the final mission.

Just got put into a Slayer match... Jesus if you were to tell me that Promethean Vision is in the games, I would believe you. Some matches it feels like they know where I am at all time. Not to mention the people whose reaction time seems to be that of a milisecond.

Wasn't even a close match! Everyone on the enemy team had 10+ kills and each us barely could more than 5 kills each. Every second they were on top of us, perfect aiming, perfect movement.

Ugh, Plaza is so atrocious.
It really is.
I think it is confusing when you play it for the first time, but it is growing up to me.

Yes. I agree. Osiris is pretty interesting team. A shame Tanaka is underdeveloped. Her line at the beginning of Battle Of Sunaion is so cliché and out of place.

Does it not explain how Chief finds Blue Tea?

Just kinda drops you in wtf. Only Halo book Ive read is Reach so I know these characters, no idea how they reunited.

Did I miss some book or show or comic?

Thats bullshit if so. Should really be in the game.

I don't want any spoilers. I'm about to start the campaign tonight, what do I need to know?

I don't have time to read a whole book or series, so is there a summary of stuff that I should know about before starting the campaign?

I remember being pretty lost the first time through 4, but after reading up on some things, and playing through subsequent times, I understood everything that was going on.

EDIT: I don't need all the little tiny details from the books, as I do plan on reading them at some point, so don't ruin it completely. Just story elements or major plots that I HAVE to know about in order to follow along in 5's campaign.

Halo Escalation, the comic series is where it happened. Also explains what happened to the Didact.

The aiming in this game is pissing me off. The Beta I was headshotting people like crazy. Now it feels way too "weighty" for lack of a better term and I'm having a hard time adjusting. I'm not liking multiplayer at all, which breaks my heart because I was a long time halo fan.

Well. There was a story in Escalation. But ONI just teamed them up for a mission. That's the story behind it there too.

You must have missed the discussion here a few pages back. The reticle speed increases relatively linearly with distance from the center joystick position, until you reach a certain point (about 70% to the edge) and it jumps to a wildly faster speed. So if you spend a lot of time around that 70% point, your aiming will feel super jacked up.

In theory this is a good idea, because you'd think you would want lower sensitivity for more subtle movements and higher sensitivity for large movements (to allow quick turning), but in practice it feels very off.

Just try slowly tilting the right stick to the right more and more. You'll notice a distinct point at which your turn rate skyrockets.

I only played it on Slayer but it just didn't seem like it flowed well to me. A lot of wandering around without any real sense of your surroundings.

I'll have to try it on an objective mode though, see if it's any better there.

I'm having the same issue honestly. Aiming just feels very weird and it's taking a while to get used to it.

Haven't yet tried campaign, but this is easily the best-feeling and -playing Halo multiplayer in the series by a wide fucking margin. Totally impressed with the turnaround by 343 here. Breakout arena mode, deftly-integrated Spartan abilities raising the skill ceiling while freshening up an aging combat core, and consistent and blazing fast networking lock this in as the MP game of the console gen, so far. Just patch in more controller configurability options and maybe seriously look into a wider standard FOV for the sequel. Addiction.
