Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

My understanding is Xbox One mod support launches with the PC mod kit (similar to how the Creation mod kit for Skyrim launched with Steam Workshop support from launch).

Where did you read that? From what I know, that's not true. The schedule is:

PC mod support: early 2016 > Xbox one mod support > PS4 mod support

"Howard revealed on E3 Live with YouTube that Fallout 4 modding is coming 2016 for PC first and then Xbox One, followed by PS4 "later on.""

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/06/15/e3-2015-fallout-4-to-support-mods-on-xbox-one/

Assuming it's the one we've seen in the pic, it's uglier than the other ones is all I mean. No need for the "joke post?!" hyperboles lol.

No idea what them being a graphic designer or having a tiny following or not getting a PC review copy has anything to do with it though

I'm suggesting it may be fake, so saying the menu is definitely worse may be.. not so definite.

Apparently some larger areas / buildings have loading screens, but for most part it should be loading screen free. afaik

Edit: Apparently they are doing whole "Building is 2 meters x 2 meters from outside, but insides are 10x in size" thing with some buildings

That fucking sucks! I was playing the Witcher 3 last night and was wondering how Fallout would handle moving between exterior and interior environments. For those who don't know, The Witcher 3 has seamless loading between interior and exterior environments. The only loading screens are when switching between game worlds, but each location is massive, and has numerous houses, caves, towers, etc than can be explored. I hope loading into buildings is extremely rare, as it would otherwise be a massive disappointment! Not having the interior dimensions of a building match the exterior dimensions is just plain lazy, and totally breaks the sense of immersion in the game world. I seriously hope that it isn't like you described, otherwise it sounds like they didn't do enough to update their game engine between last gen and now.

...hell, even Batman: Arkham Knight has seamless loading between locations, as did GTA V!

EDIT: Also, looking at it again I think that menu picture is fake!

I think you meant to post on 4chan.

I hate the idea of immortal NPCs in a game that's supposedly about choice, so yes, I'm going to kill the dog in spite of it. Of course, that's only if the rumors are true that companions only become immortal once they become a companion because who the fuck knows anything about this game.

Whole idea behind building having smaller exterior than interior, separated by loading screen, is to allow designer go ham with structure design without making building huge in open world side of things. They have done this with previous games too so I'm not that surprised if FO4 is doing this too, just alleged information without dev confirmation afaik.

"[The dog] does not die, because we realize that's automatic re-load," Howard said. "We like to make the game where the only scenario where you re-load is your own death. So, like a lot of open world games, they'll have it where 'you failed this mission, go ahead and press "A" to redo it.' We don't ever want to do that. So, we've got to handle all failstates and some of those we have to do like, 'Okay, the dog can't die, because you're just going to re-load.'"

After seeing the ridiculous absolutely ridiculous loading times in Witcher 3 on Xbox One, i am ok wit that. Having to wait a minute each time after death is bullshit. It actually makes me avoid any challenge, cause i don't want to cope with those one minute loading times everytime. I much rather have had loading times for Novigrad and some other towns like Oxenfurt and have shorter loading times after death.

Always go PC with Bethesda games, imo

Beyond the obvious reasons, mods are a really big deal .Although the consoles are going to get support for it, it's going to be a long while. Plus, we dont really know how would that work anyway.

Also, the game is going to have a lot of bugs (it's a tradition), you're going to wish you had that dev console option to port your lost companion / fix quest X / etc

Yeah that's the main reason why I'm getting the PC version. I've spent so much time playing around with mods in Oblivion and Skyrim, it's just too fun and I don't think I actually ever finished Skyrim on PC even though I have well over 100 hours in it. I don't think I even got to that old guy you free from prison in the main story on PC.

We don't really know how console mod support will work plus it comes out later for those systems.

But then games like Witcher 3 or Skyrim don't load whole world into memory at once, just like not all AI scripts are ran 24/7 for whole world of the game. Engines like REDengine stream game data in and out of memory based on player location in the world and direction they are moving. Long loading times between deaths may and most likely do come from HW performance and game wanting to load rather large chunk of the world into memory initially. It doesn't help if game is packaged into just few files that are multiple GB's in size.

Moving Witcher 3 from normal HDD to SSD was like night and day, it's insane how faster loading times in game are when data can be handled so much faster thanks to SSD.

TL:DR; Loading times in FO4 are very likely also somewhat lengthy on consoles and PC's running regular HDD's

WHAT?
WHY?

Because most of the players would just keep redoing segment until companion X didn't die.

Huh I see your point, now that I think about it its not a bad decision, companions being killed was something quite annoying tbh

Edit:
Huh if it works like new vegas on hardcore Itll be fine too

Lydia dying is one of my highlights for Skyrim.

Travelling the depths of the Dwemer Caverns far before I was ready. I ran through, made it out alive, escaped the area only to realise (much later, haha) Lydia was nowhere to be found.

I leveled up, slaughtered my way through the caverns perhaps a dozen hours later into the game, and found her. She had been knocked down and drowned in knee deep water defending me. I couldn't take the body, but I solemly decided to leave my belongings with her, despite their great value. Sworn to carry my burdens, for eternity.

So, shame about the companion thing.

Lol that seemed like a lot of fun.
Bury her with cheese

It depends on your physical setup. I work at a desk all day so sitting by at my PC is less desirable than crashing into a giant beanbag in front of my TVs and PS4.

Oh yeah sure. This never actually crosses my mind as I've always had my consoles and PC on the same desk.

I switched the difficulty to easy because of this. I don't care. I just enjoy exploring the wonderful scenery and characters in that game. Combat is low on the list of why I play it.

The great thing about Bethesda RPGs is the ability to walk from one end of the map to the other without a single loading screen. If I have to wait 10 seconds before entering a building, then so be it.

Has anything been said about the soundtrack? FO3 was amazing.

And why they used almost the same cover from FO3?

Amazon has the game still for $50 if you have prime for those still on the fence. BB GCU still the better deal with the $10 reward cert.

I definitely will have to go for that two companions perk. I need Dogmeat on my team and another companion I can romance.

Unless I can romance Dogmeat.

I am double dipping though so playing on PC will happen in the future when the mod scene explodes! The best of both worlds minus flying space cubes.

Hold on, is that on console or did you mean PC? Cause if the difference is big with SSD...i'll buy an SSD next year.

It's really crept up on me how close this is to coming out. Starting to get pretty excited. New Vegas is one of the best open world experiences I've ever had and I'm looking forward to returning to that world.

Two companions perk!?!

Oh sorry, don't know if that counts as a spoiler.

But there's this perk called
"Insparational. You need 8 points in Charisma for it. The second rank makes you able to bring two companions along, instead of just one. Third rank makes your companions work cooperatively in battle and heal eachother.

Now start with Elder Scrolls 6 already! Damn it, will this game even come out this gen?

It would be reasonable to assume Elder Scrolls VI has already been in pre-production for a while.

Todd Howard said they started work on Fallout 4 as soon as Fallout 3 DLC was done in 2009, so they obviously have concurrent major projects in different stages.

The latter two ranks to that perk are speculation at best. Vault 111's perk chart is not factual.
