Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

I fucking loathe Breakout man, really ruins Team Arena for me. It's nothing like classic Halo, it shouldn't be in there.
Agreed. It doesn't even kind of feel like Halo.

I've kinda loathed those terms ever since the beta. Halo MP covers such a broad spectrum, it the spectrum just grows larger with this new gametype.

One could argue it's more like 'classic halo' than say, swat, because team work map control, power weapons, and power ups, are of utmost importance. Each encounter just a lot more urgent.

Yeah... but I hate SWAT, too... because it's also nothing like classic Halo ;p

Breakout is as much Halo as SWAT, Infection or Grifball are.

They're niche gametypes that deviate from the traditional gameplay in some way, and therefore should remain in their own playlists.

Yuuuuup.

I like the campaign a lot aside from that.

Honestly im so close to the end im gonna restart this mission on easy and just blast my way through until I finish the game. This is not fun at all. It wasnt the first time and it wasnt the 8th time. Ugh.

Such a fantastic campaign peppered with this bullshit.

Fair enough, I just think with time Breakout will become a 'classic' game mode, but I understand it isn't for everyone AND I agree it's inclusion in Team Arena is weird. (But what ISNT weird about 343i's launch playlists?

I think the difference between Breakout and the other gametypes you've mentioned is that the former is viable as a competitive game mode.

It's inclusion in team arena , however weird, is due to the fact that it will be in the HCS playlists.

I'm actually surprised by all the Breakout hate. I've yet to actually try it but coming from a guy who is into those elimination round types like Search and Destroy or Trials of Osiris it looks pretty fun to me.

That being said all the talk of people just Spartan charging in it sounds obnoxious as hell. I already feel the need to track and slap down the guys who do it obsessively in Arena with their ARs.

I'm on the boss in the last level on Solo Legendary. I have no idea how to beat. I've been at it for over an hour with no luck. Any pointers?

Take the mancannon, do a thrust midair, and then ground pound to the ledge above where they all spawned at the beginning of the fight. Bam, end of level. There's a video somewhere in the last few pages if you need it.

Omg no wayyyyyyy. I was on this shit for like 15 minutes this morning and I was just like "wow 343 irdgaf about finishing this I'm about to YouTube the ending if I don't one shot this when I get back on." Will just do this instead!

Boss fights in the Halo games still blow.

So is last hit boss sniping a thing in Warzone or something? I had a match earlier where there didn't appear to be any enemy players around while myself and at least four other teammates would be tearing apart a boss, then it would die with credit going to the enemy team. This happened at least three times in one match, and it caused us to get obliterated since the enemy team would just capture all of the bases while we did all of the work against bosses.

Another question, what are certification cards. I got a couple but the description doesn't make it all that clear what they actually do. Does it just increase your chances for more of those cards to drop in future packs?

Breakout is phenomenal. I wasn't so high on it in the beta, but I love it now.

I hope the 343 team is paying attention to SOME of the correspondence in those forums. Aiming sensitivity/acceleration, radar, and map rotation all need serious attention. The sooner the better, kids. I'm not in love with the maps, but there ain't a damn thing to be done about that now, so let's focus on things that can be improved upon.

it's because the always try to force stuff into playlists that they want the general pop to play. Even if it doesn't fit. It's why Halo 4 had flag and bomb in the same playlist with other things.

I'm pretty sure last hit is totally how it works, and it's bullshit.

And what you said about certification cards is correct.

anyone really bugged by the fact that you can't move the camera after you die? Also can't move the camera while watching teammates. You could always circle it in previous Halo games. I can't STAND not seeing what/who killed me. It's so frustrating.

I'll echo what others have said and agree that Breakout needs to be taken out of Team Arena. It's a ranked playlist in which all othe other game modes play in a similar fashion, but then there's Breakout that's a different skill set with no shields, essentially who sees who first, which is not Halo. If people like it that's fine, there's a Breakout playlist. But I want to play CTF, Strongholds and Slayer without Breakout.

This is a good thing in my opinion, the maps are smaller and couple that with sprint if you could look around for enemy players you could sprint right to them and retaliate over and over again, which gets annoying.

You can do it in Warzone. It's clearly a balancing thing.

So I just started Halo 5 and I'm hella confused about what's going on with the story.

Why is Halsey a wanted fugitive? Was that something from Spartan Ops b/c I never played those.

Also, is it just me or is the visual design incredibly busy and makes it hard to identify targets? It reminds me of how those Transformers Cybertron, with glowy convoluted metallic robots in front of glowy convoluted metallic terrain.

Yeah, Halsey with the Covenant starts in Spartan Ops. And yeah, I find it the visual noise way too much. An over bearing hud, effects which blur the whole screen with every promethean kill etc. I prefer much cleaner stuff, where I can actually see the game I'm playing.

Please don't 343. I rather be humiliated by 6 Wardens than some dumb QTE boss fight.
But it's sooo stupid. I'm okay with boss fights if they're designed well.

There's nothing remotely fun about that Warden encounter. Or any of them, to be honest. I have to wonder if anyone at 343i has actually beaten the game on legendary.

Legendary is a piece of cake once you know how to beat Warden efficiently.

The game could definitely use a couple 4v4 sized vehicle levels. Another remake of Zanzibar would be good.

Hopefully 4v4 Assault will be coming along with BTB as that game type really gels well with maps that have mongoose/ warthog spawns.

Curious to know what people's thoughts would be on making Assault more like Flag and letting the carrier shoot the pistol too. Mentioned it to a friend and he hated the idea but it seems like a natural fit with what 343 did with the flag in Breakout (which essentially acts like a neutral bomb).

I don't think vehicles are a good fit for 4vs4 Arena. Not having vehicles in the Arena is one of the best decisions that 343 made because they can keep the arena maps small and design them to support the Spartan abilities (many corners and jumps).

Vehicles are fun but their inclusion in the competitive arena modes would not improve anything. There is Warzone for that type of gameplay.

Warden would be fun as hell with coop buddies who know how to distract and revive and evade other enemies. But with dumb AI who don't know where to go, how to shoot, how to distract, it's ridiculous. Coupled with the fact that ammo runs out too if you're not careful, it's just tedious.

Ammo is a big problem going forward. When you literally cannot bring your Battle Rifle past the first enemy encounter in the first mission because there is no ammo, and you have to pick up other dropped enemy weapons, it's a problem. Maybe it's time they adopted something like the first Mass Effect where there was unlimited ammo, but cooldown and better materials were needed to prevent overheating or pacing of shots. Or maybe have like 4-5 reserve system, so that if your ammo runs out fully, you can put in another clip automatically up to 4 times, and you can refill the reserve ammo from caches at select points. Just saying.

The new mechanics in 5 are potentially AMAZING for a boss fight. Thrust away, shoulder ramming through something large, etc. could all be combined for great mechanical interplay.

But the warden is not it. At best it's just a basic co-op distraction while someone else hits him from behind while using a power weapon in the area, at worst it's the AI getting manhandled and getting flung around by his sword making it hard to do anything but smash him with strong weapons from the front. Once multiples show up it just gets dumb, especially for how frequent it is throughout the game. If you play it safely, he's not able to reach you and the ranged attacks are easily avoided, which plays out in a dull fashion.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to go back and play those at some point.

The level-up packs turn into silvers when you get high enough (rank 40). And presumably gold at an even higher level.

I think commendations do as well, but I'm not certain.

That's neat.
Do you know which level will it turn into silver pack exactly?

Tired of selling mongooses and needlers.

Onyx in Team Area and Plat 6 in Slayer, do not want. Hey 343, I'll buy a req back if you bring me down to bronze or something.

Pretty sure at those ranks you only get full parties.

[edit]

I accidentally accepted an invite from someone and was forced to play a match with them. Playing with people makes me uncomfortable.

Yeah a boss that mixed ground pound, shoulder charge, slide attack to expose a weak point could have been cool. The Warden is mostly just "Hey fuck around until you get a good shot at his back and hope the other ones don't kill you."

I got teamed up against Flamesword and his crew just a few matches ago haha

was donged on.....

Whoever designed Orion is a fucking moron. Whoever setup Orion for SWAT is even dumber. It's so fucking easy to win as blue team in blue tower, you can't do shit as red unless the other team are morons.

So why can't players join mid match? Just finished a painful game of slayer where the other team was reduced to one player after 2 minutes.

Holy shit! The FALL OF REACH animated show is TERRRRRRIIIBBLLEEEE. Oof.

Surprising no one here...

It seems the most consistent complaint with 343 is how they handle the fiction of the halo universe.

They have no business producing content outside their wheelhouse (ie games) when they can't even get their own house in order.

Because matches are ranked and arena is all about fair starts. Join in Progress would be a massive failure in Arena. I'd quit out every time if they put me into a match that's already started and where the team is most likely losing. It didn't work in Halo 4 and it won't work in Halo, where map control matters, there are power ups and power weapons in play, and load outs are static. It's one thing to drop into a Call of duty match, pick a sniper or smg class and go to town. Quite another dropping into Regret when the other team had DMRs and BR's, controls the fuel rod gun and has locked up top mid.
