Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

I am enjoying Warzone quite a bit, but there are improvements 343 could make on their first attempt at it.

*Cards - Frequency of better vehicles needs to increase. I haven't seen a banshee card since launch day. I also have 30 mongoose cards that I will never use, so I end up selling.

*Bosses - Either do two health bars (one for each team) and whoever kills him first gets the points, or do points based on which team did the most damage. Having 6 of your teammates killing a boss only to have one enemy roll up on a mongoose and pop one pistol shot off and steal the kill is a terrible feeling, because there is really no way to stop that.

*More mancannons! - Point.

*More AI - Should have random AI spawn all across the map. Random elites, etc.

Overall I like the gametype a lot, but there are some improvements that could be made. Also we need more maps for it.

What on earth is wrong with the Halo threads on GAF this week? I didn't think it was possible to get worse, but then a new thread pops up in the next 5 minutes.

This game, Halo 5, was just released. It's kind of a big deal. The bigger the deal the more dumb ass threads.

My brother in law went on a running riot yesterday gunning in my Warthog because the opposing team was so fixated on a boss. It was strange they didn't even really look our way lol.

I am beginning to think BTB is going to seem empty coming from Warzone.

Warzone Assault feels more akin to BTB... And even that feels empty without the bosses and trash mobs on the field. I hope BTB gets some good
Forge
maps but Warzone is just too good and sets the bar too high haha.

Not that I won't play BTB when it drops... I just hope it's got great maps.

I'm loving it. But man I want BTB in soon! Warzone is kind of boring besides Warzone Assault.

I just miss BTB a lot. Where I can play casually and alone. I love arena, but only if I have a team. Randoms don't even have their mic hooked up. I feel like I'm the only person ever calling out where flag carries, power weapons, and any other important info. Makes playing alone almost miserable.

FFA slayer would be great with like 4-6 people, 8 is just too many for these maps to me.

Interesting I'll have to try buying some Bronzes to see what that gets me. I'd been on the all Silver plan. I really do wish the basic stuff was just available to you infinitely. Like sure, tie Banshees or whatever to cards if you must, but just let us get a Warthog when we need it.

Once you get the cert, it's pretty much guaranteed you're going to start racking up the cards then. The problem with infinite vehicles is, everyone will call one right away if it didn't cost cards. I mean the warthog has been buffed again and with a good driver it's easy to pick up tons of kills of lone Spartans moving between bases.

I think like D'Ellis said, BTB will scratch the itch of larger and more hectic team play as compared to arena, but without the REQ system. Warthogs and ghosts available at bases etc.

Elzar or someone else here said to buy Bronze packs until you get most of the low level permanent REQ's. I've been doing that and just got the warthog cert, plasma pistol, shotgun, suppressor, lightrifle etc. Pretty smart to get the junk out of the way earlier, and then use gold and silver to get the armors, emblems, and assassinations etc.

Might have to try that too. Only got Scout Warthogs (and some extra armored ghosts) currently.

There's some REQ card that gives you an extra-long scope or something on a BR, and twice I ran into a guy who was wrecking me with it.

a good piece of advice that helped me:

aim with your feet. focus more on walking/strafing the crosshairs into the target and keeping it centered with the right stick

Protip right here. The best Halo players in the world will tell you the same thing. Half if not more of your aiming comes from left stick movement... NOT right stick. I think that might be why some are experiencing this supposed "odd aiming issue". Maybe there is something wacky with the analog acc. curves... but wacky in a way that those of us who strafe aim and dodge with left stick as we aim dont notice as much?

I like they way you roll Jackdog... we need to play some arena later when i get off work buddy!

Imagine, in your scenario, timing it perfectly and killing the boss with what should win you the game, but the other team wins based on the "did more damage" payout.

Believe me, I understand the frustration of losing out on a legendary boss kill, but in reality timing your damage output is a vital strategy in taking out these bosses. Knowing when to fire is as important as knowing what to fire.

Let's say a boss is worth 100 points. If a team does 75% of the damage they would receive 75% of the points and the other team would get the other 25%. The team who gets the kill could receive like 25 bonus points for killing the boss or something. I think that would be fair.

Need to focus on that more. But playing Battlefield for years really killed it. Because in BF its a no go to strafe and shoot with the spread penalty.

Longshot BR. I want that. The best BR I have is the middle ACOG one that is silenced and has a laser targeter for better accuracy. I just love the way it feels when aiming for the head with it.

I have yet to get anything for the DMR. When I get it, it's probably all I'll use.

I have to say, I do not play much MP these days. Being 40 years old with limited time means I just leave it to the people that have time to put in, as quite frankly it is not all that enjoyable getting your ass handed to you by people who can put it in 10x the time you can and learn the maps, intricacies of the weapons, etc.

With that said, whether it is because it is still relatively new for everyone and/or just because it is that well designed and does help out players like myself still enjoy themselves, I really, really enjoyed what I checked out of Warzone last night. If I play Halo DM I am almost guaranteed to be one of the worst players playing. It is just how it is. Last night, although I was not at the top of the leaderboard, I was hovering in the middle/Top 5 the 3 matches I played, and I actually was contributing. Or at least I felt as if I was. I never felt dominated or over powered or at a disadvantage. Perhaps somehow the Elite controller was making me feel like Elite player (that's a joke), or perhaps, just perhaps, 343 has really done a damn good job of making a balanced, yet fun, MP experience.

Do we have any indication if they plan to roll other forged maps into the current playlists when the update hits? Have they indicated at all if the Forge update will include a much needed update to custom game type options?

Yeah, but that makes snowballing a problem, since a team that starts dominant would automatically stay dominant since there'd be no way to steal the kill. You gotta have the possibility of upset plays, gameshow rules.

Based on my personal experience in internal BTB playtests at the office, I think BTB will provide a nice middle ground between the frenetic action of Arena and the open ended combat options of Warzone. I had a blast in one such playtest last night.

That's good to hear. Warzone is okay imo, I am more looking forward to BTB for that itch.

I have the longshot BR. It's pretty cool!

heads up im terrible. somehow ranked diamond in team arena. i feel like in the opening cutscene when they show your 4 player team mine should be facing a wall confused

On an unrelated note, no store near me has any Elite controllers in stock or even knows when they'll get some more in stock. It's crazy to me that an essentially $200 including tax controller is sold out like this. Just shows you the appeal of having a well made controller with the launch of an FPS like Halo. I mean, I don't even think it'll make a huge difference in how I play, but there is this feeling that I NEED it to get good.

I always take my vehicle, tank usually, and start wrecking the other team as they are transfixed on the boss. I know it's not perfect but it adds an element that you not only have to kill the boss but a section of your team has to defend as well.

Is there a thread already mentioning "We in X part of the world can't access Warzone since launch"? The issues are real and not many websites care to say something about it.

Lol dude i am too (compared to some of the "pro-players") but i have fun! I loveeee winning matches and being super talkative with callouts and teamwork/map/power weapon control... but i still smile when i get whooped and lose. H5 is just that fun... i can't get mad... legit!

Im east coast US so i'll be home from work and the gym round 5 eastern and on until 930ish. Down for some arena and breakout trains! Will shoot you a party invite when i'm on if you are then.

@bolded: Hah, wouldnt that be epic to unlock a stance that has your dude's back facing the screen weapon dropped at feet one hand scratching his helmet or something of the like lol.

Sooo any word on a weekend double xp playlists this weekend? It's Halloween weekend and launch weekend, I'd hop they'd so something special (and hopefully a new gametype like infection).

Infection would be a fantastic way to celebrate Halloween, but it's probably going to be Assault and Oddball. Bringing back the old mainstays.

I'm now going to open roughly 120 bronze req packs.

Enjoy your 600 mongeese.

What could I get from the war zone req bundle? I want it, but want to know if it's worth it.

You get 14 Premium packs, 2 a week. Premium packs are better than Gold, but I'd need to double check exactly in what way.

Am I seeing this right? There are only 8 actual unique asset maps in the arena?

  1. Coliseum
  2. Eden
  3. Empire
  4. Fathom
  5. Plaza
  6. Regret
  7. The Rig
  8. Truth

The rest of the maps are Forge creations?
  1. Pegasus
  2. Altitude
  3. Gambol
  4. Trident
  5. Orion
  6. Crossfire (Breakout only?)
  7. Trench (Breakout only?)

It seems 343 designed this from the ground up to get back into the esports scene they fell out from. I don't feel like there is any sense of discovery in these. I am really disappointed here. Some of my best memories of Halo were in learning the new maps with each release and/or map pack. That feeling is simply not there with these lot. And Warzone is not up my alley at all.

It feels like there is no style or personal touch to the maps. They are designed as if by an algorithm, not by fans of this series.

I want to like this game.

Hopefully some of the best of forge user creations gets thrown into the arena...

how do you find your list of Certifications? I get them and then I can't find them in my REQ Collection. So I don't know which I have and which I'm missing.

edit: is it the blue ribbon icon in the corner of the card?

The more I play on the Arena maps the more I like them, as critical as I am about the art style, from a design standpoint they feel very solid competitively.

Feel the same way. As I've played each map more, and more, I have come to see how balanced they are for competitive play. Really liking most of them.

agreed.

im pretty upset they arent very varied. im hoping reqs are massively successful and funnel more content that just...looks different...into the game.

but, that said, i havent found a single map that i dont like. these have obviously been vetted.

and the forge pallets should go a long way to making custom maps look very different.

I can see how the deliberate focus on 'balance' will feed into competitive play. I guess I missed the part where Halo became that kind of scene. In the past, I likened map strategy to power weapons in the sense that "Of course there is a better side of map X, control that side to win." That does not go over well with the really serious players I suppose.

I've got this sweet Recon AR that I've never gotten to use because I've never gotten to REQ level 8 in a Warzone match, lol.

Yep. Invariably I will get to Level 8 with less than a minute left to go in the match. :P

Warzone is by its nature imbalanced, but the time I really feel that pain is right at the get-go, where there's a short space of time where people can get Lvl 3 and 4 REQs while you're contesting the central base and it feels like suddenly FRC come out of nowhere.

agreed.

While I can see why people wanted more maps at launch, I'm glad they included a Forge map to demonstrate its power, because any of Orion's faults are not due to the limitations of Forge. Can't wait to see what people can do when they get their hands on it.

Actually, my feeling on the competitiveness of these maps directly relates to map designs of past classic maps. Sure, they aren't as pretty as lockout, midship, or sanctuary, but so far they seem to play very, very well, like those maps did. And sure, a lot of that is impacted by power weapon placements.

The only map I've played that does not feel well-designed is Plaza. It may be that I've just not played enough of it, but that map feels like it could fit straight into a COD game without issues. Very compartmentalized.

BTB is going to be forge maps I believe. That's all they've shown thus far anyway. Unless that city map is BTB but I doubt it. It's probably a Warzone map.

There seems to be a lot of Halo 'concern' for sure. It must be doing something right.

Yep the concern trolling has gone to crazy levels...always

Tonight I'm finally gonna play MP after finishing the game on legendary last night. After thinking about it. I'd rank the campaign right after Reach and before ODST. For me the games go

Reach, 5, ODST, CE, 2, 4 and 3.
