The ar is just so powerful at such a long range that it's impossible not to feel agitated when some scrub sprays everywhere and gets kills
I honestly wish it wasn't in the game - it really ruins the nice precision weapon gameplay when it gets used - which happens way too often considering how easy it is to get kills with it
The only situation where its superior to the magnum if your aim is good is up close when you can spray to drop shields and then melee to finish instantly - otherwise the magnum will always win because of the time it takes the ar to drain health.

The grenades are much more of a problem than AR for me. I can still manage to beat someone who has an AR, if I get my shots off right and if they truly are scrubs just spraying it.
Grenades need some fixes for sure, make 1 grenade on spawn or something, there are plenty laying around the field. Maybe even reduce the radius as well. Way too many times am I getting killed by random grenades being thrown from across the map.
I've been reasonably decent at Halo since CE. But Halo 5 has left me frustrated because I really can't seem to play it. Everything from moving to aiming, I cant seem to get a grip on it at all.
Is it just a matter or getting used to the new abilities/aiming etc? Anyone else struggling?
I can't even put my finger on what it is that's I "think" is different.

I 've been using Bumper Jumper since H3 but I started using the default controls for this one. It feels more natural but I'm still not sure if I should stick with it. When I am fighting someone on 1v1 I contstantly try to jump at the end but throw a grenade instead. At other times its good. I dont't know...

I really don't think it would make much difference if they changed your starting weapon. Your still gonna spawn in the middle of chaos. Currently the pistol reks AR. Starting people with something more powerful than AR will only make it worse.
They probably need to lower the number of players...
The Library is actually a wonderful gauntlet of pure run-and-gun goodness. Ridiculously intense on Legendary, and super fun in co-op. It's tragically underrated.
Cortana is a fundamentally tedious level with cool art design and good story stuff.
The Triple Warden fight
is cheesable and skippable, so it's barely more tolerable than Cortana. Otherwise it might just be the most frustrating segment in the series' history. Good thing the rest of Halo 5's campaign is great!
I don't mind. It's one of my favorite areas in the game. I spent probably an hour there my first time through, just checking out all the dialog and details. It adds so much to the backstory, and has the best easter egg in the series (
On Plaza, if you go to one of the gated corners near sniper you can hear cats screaming and meowing. Also a few other odd noises. Definitely made me LOL considering the theme and that some asian countries eat cat meat.
Was unlocking a gold pack last night and a DMR appeared as a grey card, GREAT I though thinking it was a warzone unlock... it was just a super rare skin
A skin I can't even use without warzone DMR spawning lol
I can more than happily say Halo is the one game which have a very, very special place in my heart.
I'm working on the coop Legendary, so I've yet to finish it on hard, but i have beaten it alone on lower settings to try and collect everything without a hassle.
My only complaint is that the story is quite short, i expect between 15-20 hours on my coop play, but solo i think i spent about ~4-5 hours trying to find all items and skulls (still missing a few on earlier levels like Mission 3 one).
I also don't see the hate for the ending, i quite like it actually, its a way to make me look forward to the next installation in the series.
Overall im very happy with my purchase, even tho im still missing a few armor and req packs that i should have gotten.
Regret ffa spawns are like russian roulette. Why am I spawning top base in clear view of all three ramps plus the jerk standing up in sneaky that had just killed me 5 seconds ago. Literally was blasted by 4 people at once.
Wow, only took me like 11 months to register here... not even sure what to say..
Anyways
I had read for a long time that you guys had felt the multiplayer is the best since Halo 2.
I have to disagree. Why no one is talking about just how bad the actual maps are??
This game isn't even hardly worth playing with these maps and designs.
Sight lines- the sight lines are bad, and there is nothing like old halo designs (I would say it just doesn't even feel like Halo at all)
- Everything is on so many tiers and levels it just makes everything very chaotic and again doesn't eel right (all these city like levels that look an feel the same, just not digging them at all) Feels more like a call of other shooters...
Clamber just makes all this even worse and power weapons, camo etc are put in very strange places. Since there isn't really any choke points for the maps I guess this placement also doesn't matter. They are trying to force you around the map in objective and other things but there is barely any advantage or possibility of setting up on the maps. Again, just doesn't feel like Halo.
The maps that are a little more like Halo deisns they still have large and troublesome walls that again block out a lot of the sights.
Nothing is simple flat , I was looking for my
midship, guardian, narrows... construct but didn't find anything like it
Then, I was thinking ok even the less popular levels like
Snowbound, standoff would surely make some sort of try in this type of design and again I was disappointed.
I am so disappointed with these maps that it almost ruins the whole game for me.
I just don't get why 343 keeps pushing in this direction and why we can't get that halo, or even unreal style of map design. I just would like to ask the developers why this is happening? Why an't we just take the halo base an expand on that like bungie has bee doing from 1 to 3? Make some new weapons, make some new simple basic ideas that doesn't change from the base of Halo too much.
So
bad map designs (bad for halo at least)
bad sight lines
no halo like maps at all
Bad overly bright too shiny map texture and fog lights and blur everywhere (something I hated in the beta) Why is it needed? make the game clear and visible to see.
-we don't need sprint, I see no reason why it's needed other than to spread the maps out
You can see how bad the halo 3 maps looked in the halo 4 engine, just isn't a good design in art style or detail. Wish 343 can go back to a more halo 3 like art style and lighting system.
We can easily remove sprint an make the maps and design of maps that fit Halo and there is nothing wrong with that. Then, there is no reason to sprint. Spint, clamber and these visuals break the experience quite a bit.
Then, breakout has ugly horrible design choices as well, can't we just go for clairity, this is a game not a vr experience.'
In the end, the worse of the worse maps in other halo games are a ton more fun that what we have in Halo 5.... I can't imagine what a best halo 5 map would even be when it's best is far worse than the worst in halo 1, 2 or 3 (minus a couple here and there in halo 1/2) This game will not stay long with the old faithful, and that saddens me as well.
Sorry gaf, but this game just isn't an evolution at all.... it's the opposite and it honestly hurts.
The only situation where its superior to the magnum if your aim is good is up close when you can spray to drop shields and then melee to finish instantly - otherwise the magnum will always win because of the time it takes the ar to drain health.
Except if you play from EU against US people and your guns shoot nerf gun bullets. I think I'll have to do a montage of the shit I have to deal with in this game due to latency.
Finished the campaign and the play about 4h of MP!! I'm in love with this game seriously!! The only thing I'm dissapointed are the graphics....it look rough real rough IMO even destiny look better

1. Lack of content, 5 playlists only a handful of maps in each one, only 8 legit maps having to wait for signature halo stuff (btb, forge, tons of gametypes).
2. Aiming, something is off idk if its the aim acceleration or some input lag that I might be hallucinating. I literally said what the fuck when my first game started. Also meeles have some kind of lag. I just dont get it.
3. 2 playlists I was going to GRIND in are disappointing. FFA is borderline unplayable, stupid design decisions in breakout like putting precision weapons not in the middle of the map. 343 are you trying to promote slow gameplay and camping?
4. I don't enjoy Osiris or fighting prometheans (never raged so hard in a halo game than trying to kill that fucker on legendary). Why would you have "your in a squad!" be a marketing point and then have the AI be literally out of Halo 1, how does that dude still have his job? Also why am I fighting
cortana...I want galactic peace even if it means a few dead people.
5. Only 2 good maps in the game, Coliseum and Fathom (ctf). wtf is up with all these segregated maps with hallways and cqc spaces? Also WHY ARE THEY STILL PUTTING EXPLOSION BARRELS ON MAPS.
6. No social playlists, seriously the randoms you get in matchmaking are awful, I don't want to be sweating every game trying to carry, this I think will kill the population faster than anything.
7. Spawns are the worst they have ever been besides H1 spawn fucking, the amount of times ive spawned looking at a one shot, spawning behind the guy that killed me, spawning in the same place 5 times, or in the reticle of someone is insane.
8. UI continues to suck, PLEASE just copy paste Halo: Reach, how hard is this.
Been playing Halo since 2001, and I'm probably gonna ask for a refund, ill play another week or 2 then decide.
Why is Orion weighted so heavily in Team Slayer, seems like every other match is Orion. I hate the map when my team and I are on a bad spawn cycle because the spawn points are so bad.

If you can aim the pistol wins every time with no exceptions. Also the thruster/booster evade makes assault rifles irrelevant at range. The AR is strictly a CQC weapon in this game.
Jack, after playing Halo 2 Anniversary MP for the month prior to Halo 5 coming out I don't think I will ever understand why anyone likes Halo 2. The FOV is too narrow, firefights last about 1 second, the maps are way too narrow and confined and I'd suggest they are not well designed like Zenith and its bullshit sniper towers and the 1/3rd of the map that is effectively death street. The whole feel of that game is very light.
I love Halo 5's gameplay as it feels heavy. Firefights take a few seconds. You can actually survive or even have draw firefights where you can go around a corner grenade out and recharge shields to hold off. The maps are mostly good. Yeah they suffer from the CoD thing where every part of a map has two to three ways someone can get the jump on you but that can be considered fair and it prevents camping.
In terms of visuals and clarity I have no trouble seeing who is who and where they are. I don't think they pushed it as far as they could have in regards of favouring lighting and cam effects. SP has more of that going on that MP.
I'm enjoying the hell out of the game. My only complaint has been questionable match making but thankfully last night I dropped into a bunch of completely even games.
1. Lack of content, 5 playlists only a handful of maps in each one, only 8 legit maps having to wait for signature halo stuff (btb, forge, tons of gametypes).
No one Halo like map for the most part (blaming clamber, sprint again , here)
2. Aiming, something is off idk if its the aim acceleration or some input lag that I might be hallucinating. I literally said what the fuck when my first game started. Also meeles have some kind of lag. I just dont get it.
Something feels off to me when they are near you and run by you or fall down and you need to do a quick diagonal move or turn around, just feels off to aim at them.
4. I don't enjoy Osiris or fighting prometheans (never raged so hard in a halo game than trying to kill that fucker on legendary). Promethans have always felt like a mistake, hate the weapons too
5. Only 2 good maps in the game, Coliseum and Fathom (ctf). wtf is up with all these segregated maps with hallways and cqc spaces? Also WHY ARE THEY STILL PUTTING EXPLOSION BARRELS ON MAPS. But even these two are still nearly the worst of the worst of other halo games. I have no idea what they were designing all these years.. map makes the game borderline unplayable.
6. I went on a streak of about 8 games where I had top kills and lost more than half, I feel you here.
7. Can't even care about the spawns since the game has such bad maps anyways.
8. UI continues to suck, PLEASE just copy paste Halo: Reach, how hard is this.
It is slow and doesn't work when the servers are messing up as well
Been playing Halo since 2001, and I'm probably gonna ask for a refund, ill play another week or 2 then decide.
I felt like I wanted a refund cause of the map style and design of them. Gameplay isn't that bad this time, movement feels better than halo 4, aiming is still off and I hate sprint, dashing an the map design. I will still play because MCC just won't work for me sine they lied about servers.
if anything 343, just give me Halo 3 on servers, I'll pay 1000 dollars just come on

I'm more of a halo 3 guy and less of halo 2, and I think the halo 3 br spread provides better encounters as well. These lights have a lot of bloom though, isn't needed and it's quite foggy and unclear as you go into the distance.
Played Slayer for the first time and got matched against a group that outmatched my team. My team all quit except for me within a couple minutes. I got killed 30 times, finally decided to quit, and then was banned from multiplayer. Remind me why I liked Halo again?
I have never even played Truth in the Slayer Playlist (out of 33 matches), Empire and Eden are only in Team Arena which makes no sense to me. They need to be put into the Slayer playlist.
It's not a horrible game but I'm just not feeling it. Haven't read the thread but I'm sure many feel the same.
Wall of text above, I agree with most of that.
Maps are generic as fuck. Come on, H4 launch maps were better. Chaotic. Ground pound, Spartan dash, unlimited sprint..... Im used to it now but i don't feel they belong in a halo game. No split screen meanwhile black ops 3 will still have 4 player, and with comparable if not better visuals than halo 5. Speaking of which, could pass for halo 4 with better IQ and 60fps.
Half the time it doesn't show who's talking.
No persistent lobbies: are they fucking serious? They really want to make this game as anti social as possible. No playlist counts: we know what they're trying to achieve by removing it but it's going to work against them. It's frustrating when I'm playing in the middle of the night and want to know which playlist I'll have the best luck finding a good match in, but can't. I'll turn off the game instead guys.
Don't even get me started on the campaign. I could have fucking fell asleep. Repetitive much lol. May as well have been firefight.
Apologies for the disorganized post but I'm so disappointed l can't be bothered putting any effort into this post. I grew up on halo. Hell even had a shit load of fun in 4 and reach. I don't mind change, but I can't do this anymore.
UI is shit. Like, fucking horrible. And Loading screens to change playlist? No comment.
Wouldn't be surprised if the mp population goes to shit within a few months. This ain't halo. Just my opinion, I'm sure there will be many who disagree.
There's countless other things aside from what I've mentioned above too.. Too many to recall on the spot
To the peeps complaining about not enough time to mute people. I finally had to go into my xbox settings and change my voice settings to friends only. Been nice and quiet ever since.
It's good to see people that can see and feel what I am saying. A lot of my old halo friends feel just the same and won't even play it at all anymore actually and well it's sort of what we had already realized coming from 4 to the beta and seeing it's mostly the same look and feel as 4 anyways.
Before you guys come in and say on here come the haters after just a few days..
i do think there are some huge huge legit design flaws in this game
I mostly feel like 343 should work on two games, what halo 5 is and give it different characters and a different name (since its barely halo to be honest)
And then make an actual halo game without sprint, without boosts, focus on the movements, weapons and maps that make halo and see how it goes from there.
343 you can add a lot to halo and still keep the basic halo feel, work on maps and weapons, power ups that are useful. Sure, halo 3 had a lot of ideas that people hated but we still enjoyed them to an extent
Bubbles, regens, these things didn't break what halo is (even though I know some disagree) but they still had the base maps and base gameplay and that is where it matters most.
To add to this we also don't play cod, bf or tf as these games also don't fit what we are looking for.
So again, I don't get why we aren't making halo halo? the fans are here... we are here... just cater to us. We have nothing to play.....
I think overall I'm really enjoying it. Feels a lot more like an "evolution" on from the core Halo gameplay than 4 did at least. However, a the genuine complaints I have (ie not ones around AR starts and playlist management):
Character-less maps - think they play pretty well for the most part and have obviously been given a more competitive slant, they just lack any of the distinction of former maps. I can still reel off dozens of unique maps from 2 & 3 by name - I just don't see any potential for that here, they all just kind of blend into one.
No persistent lobbies - it's so rare to find a group of 3 randoms that don't completely suck, so it'd be really nice to at least have the choice of sticking with them and forming a party after a game, without having to manually invite everyone/send FRs etc.
UI clunkiness - feel like I'm trying to pilot the Millenium Falcon when all I want to do is get a nice, sleek, comprehensive view of the post-game stats
Sprint.
All in all pretty satisfied, time will tell on its personal longevity for me though.
343i seriously needs to make Fireteam/Party Chat members in Warzone another color on your HUD and minimap... so frustrating. Would be so much easier if their name and spartan ID was another color... maybe green or something... ugh

I'm so used to seeing my fireteam in Destiny from anywhere on the map haha. Would like this as well. I think over on reddit it's one of the things they said they are looking into, so keep your fingers crossed.
Don't panic and flap around on the right trigger, keep it slow and controlled, and aim at the body before moving up to the head. Can be hard to keep it cool while being peppered with AR fire, but if you do you'll be picking people off in no time.
