Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Starting to get the hang of multiplayer. Managing to at least go even or positive now lol. Spawns are absolute garbage though.

Multi seems really dated, looks like a 360 game to me. Looks terrible compared to Destiny and even Cod AW. 60fps though I suppose.

Think I am enjoying the multi more then destiny at the moment simply due to no supers, but black ops 3 looks extremely promising.

GREAT bunch of Warzone games tonight, fellas who played. Wes, fix yo mike.

Highlights:

-"Fucking scout hogs, it's useless!" (No, seriously, it's entirely useless. Who would ever use such a thing? It's a warthog with no gun and no extra seating. Like a giant mongoose.)
-ONI hog TEARING SHIT UP. Seriously, thought this thing was a CE invicahog, took so much fire. Tore Baron out of the sky in seconds flat.
-Winning a Stormbreak match by more than 600 points. Feels good, but also bad. But mostly good.
-NEVER PLAYING APEX. But actually that sucked, because Apex is a pretty great map. 7 games, not one Apex. Frankie, I think the map selection is busted. It's supposed to be a rotation, but we must have played 4 Stormbreak matches consecutively, without backing out.
-1sk on Commander Cocoapuffs. Pro tip: Promethean Greandes kill knights like that.

You can't even kill off your teammates to make the single player a normal halo game.

No matter what they just appear out of nowhere a few minutes later, ready to make you cringe and talk about skitterbugs.

Why isn't there an option to turn off the spartan team?

If only there were some kind of dangerous object you could throw into such nests for easy kills.

There's no nades on swat. And you'd get killed quicker than you could throw it even if you could. I just had a game where I camped the same spot. Felt bad.

Halo 4 is the only game in the series that had join-in-progress and it was universally panned.

Who wants to join a ranked match mid-way through, lose, and have it affect your ranking?

Which brings me to one of the points I brought up earlier but apparently I had no idea what I was talking about: who wants to have most or all of their team quit on them, only to be at more of a disadvantage than in previous games? Spartans are faster, stronger, and more mobile. People argue that the added mobility and abilities widen the skill gap, i find the opposite to be true, and i'm entitled to my opinion right? Or will people demand my GT again lol. If you can take on 4 spartans all coming at you at once with sprint, dash, ground pound or AR spraying then I guess I'm just horrible, because its a hell of a lot more frustrating than before. You can pick them off one by one but it has little effect now. Are we going to deny that you can regroup and rush MUCH faster than was possible previous games? I guess that can be taken as a good or bad thing depending on how you want to look at it though. To me its bad and its just my opinion, man. Doesn't feel like halo. More like COD, but TTK is higher in halo so again, more frustrating than if you were in the same situation in COD.

I'm not even mad... But after a few more games I have decided Halo 5 is very mechanically sound. But I'm having zero fun. I haven't driven a warthog once; in seven hours of playing. That was my favorite thing to do in Halo. Always has been.

I'm playing the same two playlists I even kind of enjoy on the same two maps over and over and over. I hate Slayer. Breakout isn't for me. Like I said, I wanted BTB. Didn't get it. Okay, then I want CTF and Assault. Didn't get it. Okay, I just want objective. I get it sometimes - but again, with no vehicles at all. I love vehicles. I love teamwork. Arena as it is isn't for me.

I took it out and will trade it in tomorrow. I'm done with this series, I think. Unfortunate.

Not trying to take away from anyone else's enjoyment. Again, the actual core gameplay is very tight - a beautiful return to form for the series. I applaud 343 for that - it controls extremely well. But they've stripped away all the things that made me enjoy the series so much.

EDIT: I lied. I'll at least play the campaign... Kind of forgot about that. I stopped caring after 3, to be honest (though I thought Reach was okay). But should at least give the SP a fair shot.

I'm on Mission 4 where you need to talk to the miners. I can always get one to talk to me but never the other. I've restarted the mission twice now with no change. Am I doing something wrong or am I SOL?

edit: finally got it to work by just hammering X.

Warzone sounds like it'd be up your alley.

It's a coop campaign. It's built around the new spartan teams. This is perhaps my favorite thing so far. I'm so tired of the lone wolf aspect for a while. Even Halo Reach which promised us a squad of Spartans, most of the time you were alone with maybe 1 other spartan. The only real issue I have is the really stupid AI that the Spartans have.

Finisshed the campaign!

sanstitree6spd.png

The campaign was the perfect lenght, great missions and level variety. No super large scale fights (except maybe the Kraken) though which I would have loved to see. The Halo 3 scarabs fights are still unmatched. Had some problems with the AI. A lot of the time they used their pistol/AR instead of using the weapons I gave them order to pick. Even worse with Blue Team members not using their special weapons. I thought the story was alright. It set things up for Halo 6 but I felt like there was no proper story arc in the game. I'll probably replay it on Legendary and try to collect everything. Overall I'd rank the campaign in my top 3. Some of these levels are up there with the best in the series and the amazing gameplay makes the "lesser" level just as fun to play. Great job 343!

Oh come on, man. Being left in a ranked match 1-on-4 was never doable in any Halo. It infuriated everybody.

Was there something I missed at the end of Halo 4 because so far Halo 5 is confusing the shit out of me? What on earth is going on? I just finished the mission where Chief and Co
have to scuttle the ship
and I keep asking my buddy, "bro, do you know what's going on here?"

I'm trying to enjoy it, but the REQ system and RNG is bugging me.

I have one tank from 15 matches of play. When would I want to use it? When I'm losing? And waste it? Or when we're winning just to mop up? The fact that its only acquired via RNG means I have no idea when I'll get another one, and so I don't really want to use it.

Been trying to play just with starting loadout items and hve done pretty well, until the vehicles come into the picture.

Am also wondering if as the game progresses the imbalances between long time players and new ones will reach epic proportions as long time players will have amassed large stocks of DMRs and vehicles at the ready, enough to control and contain the other team at range.

And to make another point, with the new movement like thrust and clamber, it's even easier to escape a firefight. If I'm about to be swarmed, I'm getting out of there, sprinting, thrusting and clambering away. Plus with low aim assist and the better pistol easy to get reversal and outshoot another opponent.

BTB comes sometime in December I think. You have that to look forward to.

GOD I fucking love this game. Holy shit. I bought an Xbox One for this and I don't feel disappointed at all.

The aiming feels a little...off compared to previous games but I am getting used to it. Biggest issue I have with the game is that almost nobody talks. I get most people hate talking to kids, but jesus. A game can turn around from a 15 point loss to winning, if at least two people are calling things out and working together. I had it happen last night. Microsoft made a mistake by not bundling a headset with every Xbox One.

If any of you wanna add me, my GamerTag is BiteSharkBite. Down to play Halo 5 all the time!!

Forge comes in December, I thought BTB was even sooner? I remember someone wrote they'd be surprised if they had BTB by Christmas and Frank or someone else wrote 'prepare to be surprised'. Who knows though.

But are you going to deny that its not a lot harder to do so now?

Anyway. Maybe the lack of and quality of the maps is making things worse. Maybe it'll get better with dlc maps.

I heard it's all Forge maps for BTB? Is that the case? If so, that's beyond disappointing. Maybe I misread.

As for Warzone... Meh... Not for me. Too much randomness for my liking. BTB was always controlled chaos. You always knew everything that was going on. The *only* surprises were from someone out-smarting you. Warzone is a cool concept; but I think there are too many people, too many variables, too many random changes, and I don't love the idea of mixing AI into the match.

Also, I hate the slow escalation of unlocks and whatnot.

What's there to get? Chief and Blue Team are on a standard mission, where Chief gets a vision and they set off after it.

Finally the solo grind from Plat 1 to Diamond 1 ends :D Tbh it wasn't that grindy it's just I was stuck on Plat 6 for a bit so it seemed that way lol

My stats aren't the prettiest in the world but I'll take it:

Jfhkovl.png

No fuckin way I can solo to Onyx. I'm not that good... Would need a team for it.

I can't drop down to Platinum again right? In Diamond no matter how much I lose...? Or does that only apply to Onyx rank?

Nice. IIRC you can't drop down entire tiers. I'm having really good games and really poor games. Nothing much in between. Taking me quite a while to get used to this game.

Every Xbox comes with headset.

Why's the Mantis a level 8 unlock? It feels like by the time anybody would hit that tier the game is nearly over. As a result I've yet to see anybody use it.

I just assumed it would come around the same time as forge since they're supposed to be all forge maps, but hey if it comes sooner then that's good by me!

I've seen it 3 times in one game, and I took it out with a scorpion like it was nothing each time. It's op, but tank beats everything. The achievements back me up on this.

I've gotten to level 8 at around 700 points several times. Your team doing objectives does help your personal REQ level, but it is primarily driven by your actions. Being the first to mop up at the home base and first to take out the enemies at the base nearest yours for an early start really helps.

I'm honestly still trying to work out exactly how a lot of the Warzone systems work, but it's clear that you can hit level 9 much, much earlier in a match than I thought you could. Seems to be tied to kills somehow, since I was leading my team with 1000 personal points and someone else (with a much, much higher kill count) had a higher REQ level than me. Some people are hitting level 9 by midgame. It's nuts.

Mantis could use a dodge, IMO. It hits like a motherfucker, but it's hugely more vulnerable now. Real glass cannon.

A lot of the Warzone stuff could use adjustments, actually. Like, the SAW is simply not worth 5 points. It's just not. Like an AR with maybe a little bit longer range and a larger clip? 3 point weapon at best, IMO.

I'm addicted to opening REQ packs. Theyre so much fun! I'm finally starting to understand how the system works in Warzone and I've been having a blast.

I'm trying my best not to purchase any Gold packs. Must..have..restraint...

I've gotten to level 8 quickly a few times. As soon as I'm able to get the Ghost, I just zoom around the map taking down a bunch of small Covenant / Promethean spawns and stray players from the other team. Its much faster to take them down with a vehicle so you level up quicker.

Enjoying the campaign so far with my bros. Just done with Mission 7 on legendary. Dunno how anyone had trouble with the Warden. We beat him twice with zero efforts. Mission 3 gave us the most trouble because these goddamn Prometheans kept re-spawning non-stop

If there is one thing I miss from previous campaigns, it's Marty ambient or slow jingle tunes when there are moody or silent moments. Kazuma is a great composer but he excels more at epic scenes unlike Marty's ambient tones.

Stinkles, how are the sales so far? I loved Halo 4 and this is just better with more MP goodness. Would hate to see it do worse.

P.S. Whoever in charge of the guns sounds should get a raise.

I dunno, it's worth any losses or lack due to lack of communication to avoid the random idiots that you hear online. I haven't chatted on XBL or PSN in at least 4 years and and enjoy MP much more because of it.
