Here's a better translation regarding the dialog (from reddit) :

IT TAKES A LITTLE TO ESTABLISH A CONVERSATION (IT IS NOT IMMEDIATE, AND HE SAYS THE NPCS TAKE IT CALMLY). THERE SEEMS TO BE FOUR OPTIONS, THAT ARE ALMOST ALWAYS THE SAME, X TO ADVANCE IN THE CONVERSATION, O THAT IS USUALLY "SARCASM" OR "NO", SQUARE FOR THE TYPICAL NOT SO PLEASANT ANSWER AND TRIANGLE TO ASK. HE SAYS THEY'RE BAD EXPLAINED, IN F3, NV ETC THERE WAS NO MISUNDERSTANDINGS, YOU'D SAY WHAT YOU READ, BUT HE'S FOUND HIMSELF IN THE GAME CHOOSING ONE ANSWER AND THEN THE MAIN CHARACTER SAYING SOMETHING KIND OF UNEXPECTED. HE THINKS IT IS THE ONLY STEP BACK.

see, i knew that would be an issue. I really wish this game didn't have a voiced character. like why would you copy bioware's shitty dialogue system? they're games don't even hold a candle to yours. Really bummed about this

I wouldn't play any Fallout that close to the release to avoid over-exposure (pun intended).

It usually doesn't bother me too much - i haven't played them since release. It'll just be a few hours on the weekend anyway, going to be busy most of the weekend, just probably play a little at night.

Nah, from the original text it sounds like the usual attempt to not "clutter" the dialogue wheel choices with too many words.
Could be. I'd hoped they had nested conversational options in a logical way. I.e you can theoretically open any conversation with any person in a thousand different ways but generally conversations are fairly structured.

I'm glad I intend to shoot more than talk!

But think how more magically the moment will be when you are released into the Wasteland in Fallout 4, without having experienced that same thing twice already a few days before?

There are so many other games that can keep you idle...

I actually kind of like being able to compare older games. Before halo 5 i started a legendary halo 3 run and played a bit of Halo 4 multiplayer. IDK why but I tend to do that, played through MGS1-4 earlier this year too.

I'll make the best of a bad situation and just a be a sarcastic douche the whole time with a heart of gold.

I like Bioware but the dialogue system is horrible at points.

Character: So I'm glad we were able to finish this really risky deal that could explode into a violent encounter if a bad thing is said

DIALOGUE OPTIONS:
A. Fo sho
B. Whatever dude
C. Fuck you
D. [shoots]

"Whoa I better choose the good option as to not fuck anything up. So A"

Your char: Fo sho..... I never knew you were such an idiot hahahaha fuck you fuck you

Anyone else will just stick to a single "home base" settlement? I will try to get one that is in the middle of the map and make that my FOB.

I'm going to be out of town away from broadband for the weekend before fallout 4's release - thinking about rebuying Fallout 3 and New Vegas and taking a xb360 or PS3 to my parents house to play while we visit there.

are the PS3 versions of these games really that bad? People seem to say that they crash constantly and the DLC is almost unplayable. I am actually most interested in doing the DLC because I never played through any of the DLC in either game.

Should I just stick with the XB360 versions?

The games were just fine for me on PS3. Maybe they ran like shit after they came out but I only played them a year or so ago and they didn't crash or anything. The only Bethesda game I've had trouble with on PS3 was Skyrim but was still playable/enjoyable.

I'll start with one and make it dependable by itself. Call it like Penis town. Then once penis town can thrive by itself I'll make another one and call that one Ding a Ling Ville. Then once time is appropriate and trade routes have been made, then and only then will I make Dong York.

In that case, I'll call my towns Uncle Pete Touched Me When I Was 8, Daddy Issues and Repressed Memories And Suicidal Thoughts

To give some small hope that we at least still get skill checks in dialogue some one on reddit pointed out to me that they think the guy has one charisma in his build and some one else said he is known for playing fps games.

That being said, it's believable that what he says is accurate if you see how Bethesda has been evolving their games (look at skyrim). And it is my worst fears for this game when I saw the dialogue wheel at the reveal and the announcement of a voiced character. I'll probably enjoy the other aspects but be sad that Bethesda has decided they just need to follow other RPGs at the sacrifice of what makes them unique (not all emphasis on combat and no skills really relating to not combat stuff).

I doubt we can name our towns anyways. They wouldn't let me call the dog Commander Shepherd. Fuck Bethesda.

T

I'm putting high charisma so when I use sarcasm for everything people hate it but I'm so charming they can't help but love me.

The dumbing down of Fallout by Bethesda continues. Color me not surprised.

Time for my shotty wielding Omar character to take on the wastelands. Omars coming!

I just want to express my disappointment that the female version of 'Lady Killer' isn't called "Man Eater"

As you walk around people start scream singing "Ooooo ooooo here she comes!"

"Watch out villager she'll chew you up!"

"OOOO OOO HERE SHE COMES"

So Strong Back is basically infinite carry weight now, GG.

I mean it doesn't say you can run while encumbered so you will still be locked into slow movement, you can just now fast travel if you are OK with that - which is how I believe Strong Back worked in previous titles.

More on the dialog (Google translate..)

On the dialogues, charisma and others, there are some options that depend on perks or statistics about it specifically. They may go yellow, orange or red (as the probability of success in choosing this path of dialogue, which is not always true) and go from convince someone not to do something that seems intent or haggle people qe makes you commissions in order to extract more money..

Actually it does, check rank 2: " You are now able to carry an additional 100 lbs of equipment, and can run whilst over-encumbered"

In NV, Long Haul was a separate perk altogether from Strong Back (which just increased your carry weight limit) but afaik even that made you move at walking speed instead of running, you could just fast travel still. So I hope and think that wikia list is speculation, at least as far as Strong Back is concerned.

Judging from the posts it seems like I'm the only one who's going to build up every settlement I can. I'm going to reestablish trades threw out Boston and create safe zones for the kids to play. Then I'm going to rule the Boston under world with an iron fist. Those kids will grow up to do my bidding.
Think Jack Nickelson in the Departed

During the people will welcome my character as a savior or hero and at night every scumbag, drug dealer, drug adddict, and women/male escort will pay their dues to me.

I just want to play this fucking game already. :/

Seriously though, I hope there's a mod that brings a custom soundtrack through the Pip Boy!

Optional.

It all sounds very interesting, but the fact that settlements can
be attacked while you're away and you'll receive warnings to go defend them
seems very counter intuitive to the Bethesda school of open world design, where one's whims reign supreme and there are no long-term obligations.

I'm wondering if maybe it's a "locally"-triggered event, similar to how GTA: San Andreas handled gang attacks -- if you're all the way out in. say, San Fierro, you won't receive any turf-war alerts from all the way back in Los Santos until you actually head back there into close proximity once again.

Have to say, I was very glad about that at the time, as it kept me from racing all the way back across the entire state just to defend two whole entire blocks' worth of territory from the Ballas while I was preoccupied with other events elsewhere.

You have to ask yourself what his CHA was and how much effort he put into trying the various dialogue options. In Fallout 3 you could generally keep plugging away at the various options but perhaps in 4 choosing a dialogue option that annoys the person you're talking too completely locks out options that may have led to a non-violent resolution.
Indeed, I think the Charisma S.P.E.C.I.A.L. animated video actually hints at this, that provoking a person with the "wrong" response now incites a violent reaction from them (similar to Morrowind).

Getting so super-bumbed reading about the conversation system. Been waiting years for this game but i'm actually thinking of skipping it, at least until a modder fixes the conversation system. Can't stand the frustration of the guessing game of a Bioware game's conversation system...

There are three ranks to Strong Back and one of those is sprinting while encumbered - at the expect of action points.

More things from the Spanish guy:

·No need to repair weapons.
·If you like FO3/NV you wll like this.
·Story takes a while to get going.
·Dialogue system bad.
·No clear objective the first few hours, he found himself wandering around trying to find stuff to do.

Yeah, I think the notion that there are "no" dialogue skill checks based on this dude's experience is pretty silly. Especially considering that one of the leaked perks for the Charisma tree is an "Intimidate" ability that lets you bypass various encounters a la Terrifying Presence.

EDIT: Glad to see repair is out. The most annoying busywork in RPGs. Interrupted my progression in Witcher too many times to count.
