HUD in general is at side of awful, but size of that crosshair takes the cake. It's fucking enormous, did Bethesda inject it with some radiated growth hormones or what is with its size? There better be HUD scaling available!

wow the repair system is out? that gave me a reason to switch between weapons man :/ why they gotta dumb everything down?

$$$$

I'm starting to worry.

I'm sure it's only that big because he's moving around or something.

He is not "aiming" -> hip fire cross air, he might be in motion, it might be recoil, it's a LMG so it's probably pretty huge anyway.

The dialogue options in that screenshot read:

triangle = Details?
square = I dont see it clearly or I dont understand (depends on the context)
x = Whenever you want
o = Not right now

They added a trillion weapon mods and parts, but yeah sure "it's dumbed down".

How are weapon mods complicated in any way. There is no denying this game has been dumbed down drastically for $. The dialogue system has been dumbed down to ridiculous levels which is very disappointing since dialogue has always been an important part of Fallout for me.

And how is repair complicated in any way? It's just a caps or item dump. Seems like an equivalent trade of complexity.

see, i knew that would be an issue. I really wish this game didn't have a voiced character. like why would you copy bioware's shitty dialogue system? they're games don't even hold a candle to yours. Really bummed about this

Me too, seems pretty disappointing.

What? There are like 700 weapon mods, each doing something different for your weapon. Deciding which mods are more beneficial to you because of which stat is changes or ability, gathering the material to make said mods, and also learning the skills necessary is far more complicated then combing two weapons to make another weapon slightly newer, sorry.

That said it is somewhat sad to see a mechanic I am used to go, but I really don't think I'm going to miss it any.

Okay - I'm picking up the PC version of Fallout 4 and I'm looking into making a non-voiced player character mod. This was not my plan for today.

I've started picking apart the Skyrim and NV engine and assuming it's not radically different, I think it's achievable. The voice can be silenced and then the subtitle files be used to recreate the dialogue options, then a new dialogue UI.

Man why can't that guy take a beark for 30 min and write out the perks. :/

edit:
Glad weapon repairing is out!

Bleach. I loved the weapon repairing. I loved having to worry about making sure my weapon was in good shape and that I had the things I needed to fix it. Bethesda is turnin this more into an fps and less of an rpg. *sigh*. Pretty soon I will have to agree with people calling it an fps.

Yeah it was really irritating in the Witcher 3.

Was it ever even a thing that got you in trouble? I'm playing on Death March [done main game, working on expansion] and not once gear has broken on me during extensive exploring of the world. I just pop repair now and then when I go to vendors to do loot dump, even then rarely costs more than 100 coins which is nothing.

Seriously, weapon durability is bullshit and is almost never properly integrated into the core gameplay. I'm glad they god rid of it, and hopefully we wont see it back.

Exactly! If it was actually a good gameplay mechanic you would have to consider weapon durability before embarking on a quest or Witcher contract. Instead. after playing for a couple of hours you get reminded your gear is degrading so you either use a repair kit or have to travel back to a blacksmith to repair. It's nonsense, and doesn't integrate into the game in any meaningful way.

Fallout was a little better though, but it still served as a deterrent to actually playing the game. Repairing gear isn't fun, its tedious and boring. As the other poster said it basically just devolves into an item or cash dump to get the gear repaired.

Please make this for the console versions if you can.

Yeah admittedly it does add a certain survival challenge to the game. I wonder why they took it out? Seems like it would have been easy to just turn it into a perk branch.

Are we really complaining about weapon repairing being out? It was never a particularly good mechanic to begin with, and it didn't add any depth to the game. It was a minor annoyance sometimes, but it didn't really make you feel like you were any more a part of the wasteland. It was just kind of... there.

I wish they'd worked out a better repairing mechanic that felt more survival-y in it's place, but I'm not at all bothered by it being completely out.

This is a great idea. I think as soon as the dialogue wheel was shown people had this idea too. I'd love this mod.
8. Motha.fuckin. Days. HYPE

It's probably also a balance issue. I'm sure a lot of people (myself included) in Fallout 3 and New Vegas would scavenge and sell stuff for caps. Now I'll likely be disassembling things for parts so I can craft things which will deprive me of caps.

I know it's a choice but if they want to encourage dabbling in crafting, they need to make it so you're not constantly broke.Presumably you can sell things you craft but you may have difficulty selling one expensive crafted item because many traders don't have a lot of caps whereas you can sell your scavenged goods to several traders.

Because combining two weapons to magically repair one of them makes a RPG? What?

Better call Borderlands a FPS then too.

The first mod I installed for Witcher 3 was a "no weapon durability"-mod. It adds NOTHING to the game, NOTHING. In Souls games, durability actually matters, but not in an open world RPG with fast travel.

I don't really see the depth in weapon repair. All its ever been to me is keeping them topped up, rather than actually forcing me to think about it.

Weapon repair has always been a useless mechanic that served only to make certain items unusable because they are unique and unable to be repaired. Weapon condition hardly affected the use of your weapons at all until they broke completely, and repairing most was childishly simple, and served as a money sink. They removed it in Skyrim and it was much better for it.

Much appreciated. The dialogue/voiced protag stuff is the only thing that's severely bumming me out.

There's some additional issues - I've got some MP4 footage of the game now (not posting in case Betheda loose their shit) and I suspect some dialogue options are based on your build. So a mod is going to have to cater around that.

I'd also assume that you need to dump caps into certain weapon builds and into your settlements. Layering yet another level of resource dumping would be plain annoying.

Good point. I didn't miss it in Skyrim at all. I recall at first I was a little bummed they changed something I was used to but then I never gave it another thought. I spent all my time using stats and perks to make my weapons stronger and it seems like I will be doing the same thing in Fallout, just in a different way with mods in place of blacksmithing.

I'm glad to hear that, at least. High CHA was always my preferred way to play.

Guess for the mean time I'll figure out how to just mute my protag and put up subtitles.

Same

Can you turn the voice off? It makes complete sense in games like Mass Effect where you're playing as Shepard, so he/she has their own voice. Don't see what it adds to games like Fallout though where your character is supposed to be an avatar for the player, a blank slate.

Or did they change that for FO4 as well?

Weapon repairing... I haven't played in years so I forgot this so can someone explain it?
There's a little durability bar next to your weapons and when you use them it depletes. When it gets too low and the weapon is damaged, you need to use a duplicated version of the weapon to refill the bar.
