Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

There are consequences for a low level in most S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats, so why not charm? Wasn't this one of the criticisms of Fallout 3 over the original games. I think it makes perfect sense; perhaps they've finally addressed this.

Just one question though? Too restrictive to playstyles that don't want to put points into charisma. Normal amount of dialogue should be available for each build. Dialogue with other characters seem paramount to the enjoyment one would derive from a game like this so restricting such a basic aspect would be idiotic. Fingers crossed for wrong information, day one patch etc.

Whether or not it's because of his char's low CHA, having a low CHA = can only talk about one topic with each NPC makes zero sense. Absolutely none.

I HOPE it's because of his low CHA, but if it is, that's the weirdest, dumbest way to do low CHA dialogue.

Yep. It's like they wrote all the normal dialogue and had a hard time to come up with some good high CHA dialogue options so they just cut the normal dialogue options and made CHA unlock them instead, IF this abomination turns out to be true.

I think I was the one who brought it up initially in this thread. Something I read off reddit. But since some one else (who sounded more confident as the first person just said he bought he guy was playing a 1 charisma character) said he has 5 charisma :/. I'm so hoping the first person was right.

It's understandable, I mean it's all hearsay anyway. Who's to say this person is even telling the truth, isn't intentionally spreading false information for kicks, or isn't even playing correctly? All we can do is speculate really.

I'm not taking this at face value unless somebody else can back it up. I think there is more to the dialogue than this guy is leading on.

I guess we now know what that one weird luck perk does rank 5:
Perk Details: Wise Idiot - not a fool! Just different. You randomly receive three times PE (experience points) for any action. The lower your intelligence, the greater the likelihood.

TLDR: Random chance for 3x experience for anything (Quests, Killings, Exploration...) that have a greater chance the lower your Intelligence stat is.
People will be reloading save like crazy at the end of the quests if this is true.

EDIT:
I always go for high INT, so it will probably be useless for me.

On the bright side, if the dialogue turns out as shittily as I fear, this is an excellent opportunity for me to finally knuckle down and learn how to mod and fix this nonsense (at least for myself). Nothing like a good stick to get the old mule running.

I'm just hoping he's wrong for whatever reason. Cause everything he described about dialogue was exactly my (and I'm pretty sure others who were skeptical of the dialogue wheel and voice acted player character)'s worst fears about this game (pretty much every single one people were worrying about). I mean it's only one aspect but talking my way out of things and dialogue in general are a huge part of the fun in RPGs for me. I love talking to NPCs and gleaning info from them. It was a large part of the enjoyment of the story and learning about the area to me.

I agree. I'm curious if the player(s) could have gleaned more information with higher charm, or different/more information if they had made different conversational choices. In Fallout 3 and New Vegas CHA was my dump start and I mostly ignored Speech yet I could quiz the hell out of most NPCs which is surely contrary to the intent?

We really don't know much. Although I've never valued CHA in previous games my provisional Fallout 4 S.P.E.C.I.A.L buildout has me starting with CHA 5 because some of those perks look great fun!

Oh I agree. In New Vegas I love just flying through quests because my speech skill was high and I could pretty much talk my way out of anything or just convince everybody to do things the easiest way.

What i loved was being able to play the good guy and come up with ways of solving things that made everyone happy or at least not have to kill some side. Hell, if they gave me a way to convince Legion they were wrong and they should stop being assholes, I would have loved to solve it that way too. I just love playing peacemaker honestly (I love being the super good guy in these games. And yet I still love shooting people too, go figure. But I always loved the feeling I got when I found the way of solving the problem that worked out best for all parties).

It sounds like he's just playing the main quest. It could possibly be Bethesda is being as railroady as usual in their main quest (surprise surprise) but there will be some good side quests for these kind of things. After all, in 3 the main quest was pretty railroady but they did have some side quests where you had more impact in how things ended up (the tenpenny tower though it coudl have been done better, the vampire quest are two that come to mind).

That still doesn't explain though why you can't ask NPCs more than one thing (that is very sad. I really loved talking to NPCs. Sometimes I just liked hanging out in the towns just to be able to find all the NPCs and learn all their stories).

Well, hopefully Bethesda feels the need to do a money grab and lets Obsidian do another Fallout game (i'm pretty sure that's why they contracted Obsidian to do New Vegas, it was just a money grab on hype that was still around that they thought they should grab that interest while it was still high).

Impressions on dialogue doesnt surprise me. Bethesda ditched low int dialogue that was in fo1 and 2 in 3. Im betting CH has no bearing on dialogue options. I mean, theres no skill points, everyone is good at everything in the game, and only enhanced by the perks you have. Unless theres a dedicated perk for "enhanced dialogue" we are looking at a game with worse options than fo3. Ugh.

And I'll be able to put all those extra points I get from dropping CHA to 1 on LUCK. High critical rate and the
random 3x EXP
perk should be fun. No need to put any points in CHA if the spanish buddy boy is right.

This is untrue. It wasn't as debilitating or pervasive as in 1 and 2 (i.e. you could actually play the sidequests), but the low int dialogue was still there.

Also, having just reviewed the E3 footage, the CH stat is described in the game interface as affecting how effectively you can persuade people in dialogue. So hopefully not all is lost?

Ugh, so much damn pearlclutching.

I initially had this pre-ordered on PS4, but I changed my order to PC.

Thinking of grabbing the season pass (GMG has 20% off), but I really hate purchasing a season pass for a game I didn't even start playing yet... Ugh.

Do we have any details regarding the content of the season pass ?

Zero. I'd say hold off.

No, we dont, expect some good dlc like those in F3.

Edit: yes...wait

Player has 4 CHA, some dialogue options in a mission appeared in orange/red indicating they're not very likely to pass the check if chosen. He then reloaded, picked up a couple of dialogue related perks and was able to finish the mission through conversation.

Charisma itself doesn't actually increase the number of dialogue options, though. Some conversations are apparently one-time choices and you can't go back and choose something else.

Diamond City similar-ish in size and density to Megaton. Big, different-looking dungeons.

I'm not sure if it's a he or a she, but I'm assuming she is a she, anyway:

More bits (and some good news), she has 4 CHA:

·She just did a mission where she could resolve it diplomatically. She tried it and the answers were in red or orange (low chance), she reloaded and put 2 points in relevant perks and was able to get though it by talking.
·More charisma doesn't open new dialog or information, but it lets you pass the charisma checks.
·Bad dialog system is bad: She saved a npc, after saving it, the npc asked her how she knew where he was and the options to answer were: don't tell, tell and ask about its past. She asked about the npc's past and after the answer there was no way of continuing the conversation to talk about the other topics.
·No hardcore mode.
·Some perks: STR 10 - Pain Train - If you wear a power armour you can sprint towards enemies to kill them or knock them out (robots and big enemies don't lose balance). PER 7 - Refractor - +10 resistance to energy. INT 9 - Nuclear Physicist - Rad weapons deal 50% more damage and the fusion nucleus last 25% more.
·No metro system or anything like that.
·No faction system.
·One big city so far (megaton sized or so) and several small settlements.
·Loves the sense of discovery, tons of small dungeons and such.
·Only been on part of the north side of the map, so the game is huge.
·Perk for RES9 - Necrophage - Radiation heals you.

Alright. I guess I can live with this. Seems like there are decent stakes to conversations. The lack of extra flavor dialogue is not ideal (hopefully found notes/audio logs will supplement), but not the end of the world.

That sounds like a glitch.

Dont like this stuff.

So even with higher Charisma you can only choose one option. Terrible, just terrible...

ok radiation healing is weird for me.

I see what you did there.

Ugh...

edit: I kind of like the idea that dialog choices having consequences, like a line of questioning might piss off an NPC and it won't want to talk with you anymore, but the example above is just lame.

Radiation weapons? Translation mishap and should be just Energy weapons?

I am extremely hesitant to trust a random player to state the full consequences of a dialog system without playing myself.

Disappointed in no hardcore mode.

Also disappointed in no factions... is there at least a replacement in F4, or is it just building your own house and weapon modifications that are the focus?
