Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return (English Version) PSOne Classic Out This Week

Glad to see Monkeypaw Games finally worked out the kinks to emulating the NA version. Will gladly buy to support them for their work.

FINALLY.

They should give it for free to all those unexpecting people who bought the Japanese version.

This came out of nowhere. And that's great! I wonder if those who already bought the Japanese version will have to double-dip or if they're already covered with a "free" upgrade.

Since it's a different version, it might require a different ESRB rating? And therefore it'd be a different, paid listing.

Fucking        Y    E    S    !    !    !          This        is        A    M    A    Z    I    N    G          news!!!

I'm glad MPG is doing right to the people that ended up buying the JP version. Looking forward to playing this since I played the 1st on psn for the first time and really loved it.

I thought the game description box on the PS store specifically stated that it was the jp version?

There was no warning it was in Japanese prior to release nor was it in the description. And it had NA box art and title on the store.
Only after initial complaints they added a tiny line to the bottom of the store description saying it was the Japanese release. Scummy.

I did the same. This game is fabulous! My all time favorite. The first game is 2d and that put me off it.

NAgaf, buy it now.
It's amazing.

You can but it's nice to see how it evolved and it still a really good game. You can play it after 2, I guess.

Enjoy the game, for any of you playing it for the first time. It's fun as hell and the last segments are fantastic (and somewhat eerie). Just don't get mad with the camera switching (at times it's a real pain).

This and the prequel truly deserve a remaster or, better yet, a sequel. I'd be there Day 1.

Technically yes, but they're both worth playing. I slightly prefer the first one; it's a bit more challenging but the boss fights are a joke. Whereas it's a bit of the inverse with the 2nd one (Water Temple is a bit tricky at times though I'd say; same with the Forest's 2nd half).

But story-wise you don't need to play the 1st to understand the main plot of the 2nd (you'll miss out on certain inside jokes and references but that's to be expected).

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I don't know why I thought the first one wasn't supposed to be good. I'll definitely give a both a try.

Personally it's not worth, it's not as good as Tomba 1.

The majority wins this time I'm afraid. Always on the lookout for new 2D platformers haha

Can't wait to play this on my vita.

I only played the first tomba as a teenager and really liked it.

Which Tomba is seen as the better game and why?

Everyone has their opinion. Some people think the 3D in 2 doesn't hold up to the 2D in 1 but 2 is much more fleshed out and in-depth in every possible way so, yeah, let's say they're both great.

That's got to be a lie. The NA version has been out on the EU PSN store for almost 3 years and it works perfectly. Most likely it was licensing issues, but at least MPG bothered on settling them out instead of leaving the JP version as the only choice.

Yeah, it's total BS.
Just like Capcom with Mega Man Powered Up.

It was over a year of work to "come out of nowhere." :)

It's not a lie, and not total BS. I won't get specific, but EU/NA are two different organizations with different rules, and the EU throws in the 50/60Hz issues, so just because it's out in the EU store doesn't mean there are no problems with the 60hz version on the US store.

I'd be grateful MPG didn't just give up and leave only the Japanese version on the store. They put up the band-aid and kept at resolving the issues until the English version could be released.

It wasn't intentional, and definitely not "scummy". Without going into detail, it was a similar circumstance to when Arc the Lad was a Plus title in Europe and they released the Japanese version not the English version. And with Tomba2, once it was clear what happened and why, they've worked to fix the problems and get the English version on the store.

But are there any differences in the emulation between a US and a EU system?
Because Europe had the US 60Hz version from the start.

Edit: Well, not literally from the start now that I think about it. IIRC they put up the 50Hz version originally and then swapped it for the 60Hz one after some time.

Can anybody make me a thorough recommendation on Tomba? What's great about it?

I usually pay attention when a game has such loyal fans, but I don't know if I "get it" without having it explained to me. What's so great about Tomba?

If you have both an EU and US PSN account on your PS3, you can grab Tomba 2 from EU PSN and it would run fine if you play it on your US account.
I find it hard to believe that there was emulation issues.
if it was licensing, I guess I'd believe it.

I can't get specific, but there are differences in how the emulation is handled. MPG didn't invent a problem to delay a game for over a year they and the fans wanted out.

It's just a very bright, colorful, charming take on a castlevania type game with a breezy feel to it. Has a very Klonoa-like satisfaction to it for me.

You can hack your vita to whitelist games, too. That doesn't mean there aren't issues with the emulation of those games.

I wonder what the active playerbase is on non-PS4 Sony consoles that they've been getting a lot of highly requested cult classics(like this and Legends) while seemingly most the playerbase has moved onto PS4 or away from Vita in general.

I prefer 2, but Tomba 1's save file can be loaded into 2 to gain extra Events where some characters from 1 come back. It gives you the absolutel true completion.
