Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

I'm seriously considering getting a Huawei Watch for my dad for christmas as long as it doesn't randomly decide to nuke the battery from 100 to 0 in the space of 2 hours like my Sony SW3 does sometimes.

Seemed good to me. 2 days maybe 3 if I wanted to stretch it. Always on being turned on. Standby was legit.

I think either skype or instaweather (I think that's what it was called), was killing my battery life.

The other day I was driving to work and my GF called me, battery went from high 80s to low 70s in like 30 mins. I've been reading that's been an issue with skype ever since they added Wear compatibility. That day I had everything off, tilt off, wifi off, screen off, and it died by 6pm.

Need to experiment more. Yesterdya I uninstalled instaweather or whatever and my battery was far better.

Anyone has an opinion about the gear s2? Im kinda torn between it and the 360: really liking the battery life reports, design, and UI but also I don't know about that Tizen OS support over android wear...

Ended up getting the Zenwatch 2 today from Best Buy (49mm). It's my first foray in Android Wear (I was an OG Pebble user). So far I like it, but there are some things that are bothering me.

First off, is there a way to see full text messages if you recieve multiple? When I get multiple texts all it shows is the sender and first couple words but I don't know how to actually open the texts to read them on the watch. Also, why the hell can't I respond directly to a text notification?

Haven't decided whether I'm going to keep it or not. It is rather large, though with the lugs it's about as tall as my Pebble was, maybe a little large. I really did the voice controls and the fact that I can see maps and turn-by-turn directions on it. Battery life so far seems pretty bad but I'll chock that up to me playing with it all day. I'll give it a few days to improve.

Ok flip flopping again I think I'm gonna keep the Zenwatch 2 lol. There's a great app Asus launched that let's you customize your own watchface. I also swapped out the band from the Huawei Watch to use with the Zenwatch 2 since the Zenwatch 2 band was a woman's band and very small. Just until the one I bought on Amazon arrives then I can return the Huawei.

Sneaky bastards, but yeah...

That's a deal breaker for me.

Got $400 to blow this year on a smartwatch... should I get something of what's available now or just wait a bit? (I have no idea in this space)

Huh, my battery decided to just take a shit today. Charged it this morning at 10am and it's already down to 26%. It's typically been lasting at least 24 hours.

Is this just an android wear thing or what?

It's an Android Wear thing. Google really need to get their act together, they're taking the piss.

My Moto 360 completely dies at 30% with heavily animated watchfaces sometimes. It's really weird.

It's probably not an Android Wear thing, it's an app that is running that is draining your battery most like. Check your watch battery stats and find the culprit.

When I had a massive battery drain on my watch, it was because Google Play Services was acting up. Had to reset the watch and that fixed it.

Restarted it yesterday and it seemed to fix it. I think I had wifi enabled too so that probably wasn't helping. Took it off the charger this morning at 8 and it's still at 76%.

Jumped in this week and bought myself a Sony Smart watch 3.
Was umming and arring whether to just get a Garmin (etc) running watch, but while the smartwatch probably isn't quite as good as the Garmin for purely running purposes, I think the extra features will be worth it.

Liking is so far.... Only disappointment is that strava doesn't have a "standalone" mode so can't use it without it being linked to my phone. Have had to move over to endomondo.

My OG Moto 360 wasn't lasting even the full workday, but I found a fix at xda, and not I have > full day battery again. I'm relieved since I was getting pretty disappointed in my watch.

(Fix is to clear and cache and remove androidwear, reboot phone, hard reset watch, start over).

I picked up a Moto 360 (1st gen) for $75 at Staples yesterday. I'm enjoying the watch a lot so far. It's fun to look through all the watch faces available.

I also picked up a SquareTrade warranty with it, but I'm not entirely sure about it. No where on the brochure does it say that it covers accidentals, but the manager was positive it did. He said if I "shot it with a shotgun" I'd be covered.

Why was it so cheap?

Is anyone here getting the Urbane 2 watch from LG??? It looks slick to me and if I buy it, I can finally live my Dick Tracy fantasy. :P

I appreciate the fuck out of LG for stepping up and doing what's right instead of just keeping a faulty product in the market.

Not Android Wear, but I've been rocking the Samsung Gear S2 Classic for almost a month. Great device and battery life. Played a whole round of golf using it as a GPS distance and score tracker, just as good as a Garmin. Using this as my watch face via Mr Time Maker:

So, I've been thinking about finally taking the plunge into the Android Wear ecosystem. What's the general consensus of the best bang for the buck? My price limit is around $300. Any suggestions would be great.
