Fallout 4 has gone gold; leaked gameplay vids

I think it's definitely more streamlined. One of the more complicated parts of character creation in Fallout is that Perks had Skill and SPECIAL requirements, but players generally did not see those until they leveled up to the point where they were offered their first Perk. The SPECIAL interaction in particular was much harder to understand without a fair amount of pre-creation planning.

Now you can't really get "surprised" by a Perk that you discover later during your playthrough that you might want, and realize you don't have a means of meeting the requirements at that point.

I'm not saying it's better or worse overall, just that it's much easier to understand and navigate both before and after character creation happens.

Not exactly. They could have dropped the skill requisites for perks and show all the perks in one go, like now, but still have skilsl and perks as separate features.

Oblivion was the last time they really pushed technologically in nearly all aspects.

This is... true. Fallout 3 was a small improvement over Oblivion, Skyrim a small improvement over Fallout 3, and Fallout 4 seems a small improvement over Skyrim, maybe a bit bigger this time because it's done for the new consoles, but nothing like Oblivion.

Hmmm... We'll have to see about VATS I guess. It's a balancing issue, but I can see RPG "traditionalists" not liking it.

RPG traditionalist don't like VATS in the first place.

You or I have different degrees of spoilers than everyone else. Gameplay spoilers, plot spoilers, system spoilers... lots of different kinds of spoilers.

I'm fine with the Leak thread in terms of how "spoilery" it was but there are already a few people pointing out the need for potential spoiler awareness.

EDIT: Personally, I don't think the merge is a problem in the spoiler aspect, I'm just sure there are a few people who do.

If someone considers any kind of detail of the game a spoiler, they shouldn't enter in a thread of the game. Because that's why the thread exists, to discuss details of the game. As Evillore said, no shallow hype threads allowed.

What do the safe space people think of the changes/downgrades?

To be fair, repair and weapon condition are basically the a single feature!

- Hardcore mode - Hated Hardcore mode in New Vegas. It felt like it was something shoehorned in for an artificial difficulty increase instead of something designed for the game that fit in organically.

I don't agree. Going from "hard" to "very hard" difficulty IS artificial increase difficulty. Hardcore is in comparison a much more natural, organic way to increase difficulty and immersion.

So, weapon condition is out.
What will be the determining factor(s) of weapon jamming in FO4 then?

I suppose there won't be weapon jamming in the game.

Wait, for real? You play Fallout without VATS?

I also avoid using VATS. Not totally, the gunplay wasn't good enough for that, but it always felt like a cheat to me.

More like DOOM/Rage level controls. It's going to be amazing.

Please. We can suppose the gunplay has been improved, but there is no chance in hell it reached Rage levels.

Can I shoot the dog? I don't like dogs in real life and I don't want to have him forced up onto me in a video game.

The companions are only invincible when they're with you, they can die otherwise. That is, until they have their own quests and are set to essential until said quests are completed, but that's easily sorted out on the PC at least.

Last I heard Bethesda got help/consulted their subsidiaries MachineGames and id regarding gun gameplay, both of which produced great gun gameplay with new Wolfeinstein and Rage. I think it's going to be pretty damn good.

"Consult" isn't "design and implement and fine tune for several years".

edit: but the leaked videos show a pretty good improvement over Fallout 3. It isn't a id game or a CoD but it's muuch better than before.

I'm really liking how dense this game looks going by the footage I've seen up to this point. It looks like it's packed with locations, the city is fucking huge and intricate, and the locations outside Boston that I've seen so far look large as well, generally like two or three times bigger than the equivalent Fallout 3 location might be.

If I dismiss my companion but later want her back, will she be hanging out at my "house/base", the place where I met her, or is she gone forever?

Yep already confirmed. There are unique legendary monsters and people scattered throughout the world that either possess them or are protecting them.

now thats cool!!

They'll just go back to where you first picked them up. There may be an option to send them to your home/settlement too.

Fallout 3 and NV were so good that I bought 1 and 2 for my pc. I absolutely love these games, and it's not for the graphics. The journey through these is downright incredible, and I'm super stoked for 4.

Nope, no one can access the PC version yet from what I hear (something about even the retail versions being locked without Steam decrypting the files).

We have pc pics and even pics from the settings in the other thread so there are pc copies around. But I agree that this is most likely xbone.

Yes thats my biggest concern, in a wasteland you have to try to survive with systems made for survival itself not endless supply of food, weapons, etc.
Thats why the removal of hardcore really bothers me.

I honestly cannot see from any of these screens why my 570 with its 1.3 gigs of RAM won't be able to run this. LIke, what are their minimum and recommend reqs even aiming for? 4K?

Did you play on hardcore? I did with New Vegas on my 200 hour playthrough. I can say with confidence it didn't add anything to the game experience for me.

Video RAM. XB1 and PS4 have 5gb usable shared VRAM. You can try on your rig, but you may have performance issues.

If you keep cutting limited resources features without replacements, traveling and dungeon crawling becomes exponentially less interesting. Eventually it stops being gameplay and starts being grindy time filler.

Ideally, there should be a handful of variables that make long slogs interesting and challenging. Saving a given gun for only the most dangerous encounters. Maybe it breaks anyway, so you have to improvise with a weapon you're not as skilled in, but maybe have more ammo for anyway. Etc.

Some people want these games to be resource infinte with unlimited encumbrance and so on and I don't get it at all. Eventually there's no game there, you're just in an interactive wasteland themed screensaver.

Weapon degradation specifically isn't a necessity but something needs to put limitations on your ability to go anywhere for any length of time and survive...

Maybe for you. I totally disagree. I can (and often do) happily mod out all of that stuff in other Bethesda games, and I enjoy them just as much, if not more, without stupid resource management tasks that aren't fun.

How do people have access to the PC version?

Reviewer or just person with very close ties to Bethesda which resulted in them giving person early access to PC copy. There is no way those pics are from leaked / cracked PC copy, that 128-bit encryption is tad too tough to crack.
