Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Good to hear most people are really enjoying Halo 5, but MP is completely broken here in Australia. Can't connect to Arena or Warzone games. On launch day here in Oz I had no issues, then as soon as the rest of the world went online with Halo 5 we suffered for it.

Widespread issue, apparently 343 know about it.

Shit sucks.

I've been able to find games during the day/evening but as soon as it hits around midnight AWST I find it almost impossible to find Warzone games.

Only playlist that I can find games after that is in Team Arena but even then I'm stuck with long search times.

How the hell did Orion get into the final game? Such a god awful map.

Agree, it is really bland and uninspired, same as pegasus.

Such a shame that it is inside both playlists for Slayer and Free for all and some other awesome maps such as fathom or eden are not included in both, I cannot understand it.

Why are the initial rankings so bad? Me and my friend both played 9 out of 10 if our SWAT placement matches together and his KDA was 3.3 with a 1.1 kd and mines was 10.1 KDA with a 2.0 kd. Somehow he manages to get placed in Onyx and I get placed in Diamond. On top of that I won 9/10 and he won 8/10 so he literally did worse in every single way... I just don't get it.

Wait what? Really? That's dumb as fuck.

It's pretty lame, yeah. I was hoping that if I picked up a freshly-spawned gun, it'd instantly be colored with my skin for it.

That said, I only have the Sentinel BR, Fade SMG, and Fade magnum skins right now, so I'm not super peeved.

The Storm Rifle is a really good weapon now, cuts trough shields really quick. Much better than the Assault Rifle. Works great in campaign against Elites.

did you even read what was written on this page? only start weapons get a skin...and Magnum as well as AR are start weapons in arena.

I'm starting to get more anger than fun out of this game. Just played arena slayer. We lost and I made 15 kills while my team members only made 12
together...

I had the highest accuracy from everyone, most power weapon kills but of course because my team lost my rank went down..

Having a bad day buddy? Hold your horses.

As of buying the Warzone Pack, I def. advise against because the DLC has a lot of problems not showing up ingame, including me. So save your money, 343 didn't respond to the numerous complains on their official forums.

It's not how it looks. Pegasus is fine for SWAT. But Orion is just spawn kill central. Like it just doesn't work with how fast you spawn. It's just terrible. I keep hoping its a practical joke and they'll remove it soon.

The arcs feel great. What I dislike is how frags hit the ground, bounce off, and then detonate 12 feet above the floor. I don't remember which Halo started this (definitely wasn't CE), but I don't like it.

Yeah this catches me out. They need more weight to them. You used to be able to bounce them off a ramp, over the top into peoples faces but now they bounce up about 20 feet in the air and become fireworks. Makes it a bit harder to judge.

He played better people. (Though ranking definitely seems a bit sketchy, especially in SWAT, seems like anyone can get onyx in that playlist)

Play some FFA :D Be warned, fun can be had but damn its chaotic and a clusterfuck in general. I find wins aren't as satisfying as quite often the majority of my kills are simply jumping players already in a gunfight. Way to take any sense of accomplishment away lol. Cheap kills, cheap deaths. Strongly believe the added mobility, abilities, unlimited sprint is detrimental to gameplay/gunplay ^_^

Yup, for some reason the game is littered with quitters. There needs to be harsher penalties for quitting.

Or, they should show player list, stats, rank etc pre-game like every other mp game out there. There'll still be quitters but the ones who pussy out would have done so before the game started and those spots could be filled. Like in previous halos lol. Dunno why 343 thought this system would be better. Sucks shit in MCC too. Seems they're doing their damn best to make mp as antisocial as possible

It could still be early impressions, but I look at this game and I'm not having the negative impressions that I did when Halo 4 was fresh. So at the very least, 343 did gooderer than their last full game.
There are still some little things that are annoying, but most of the major aspects are good; even, I dare say, fantastic.

man I hate the regular sword in this game, it's lunge distance feels nerfed and the aimcone for it is tiny, every time I try to use it I just get AR'd faster then I can swing the sword twice in a row.

I've been enjoying playing Swat but that is about it so far. I really want to like Warzone but every game I've played has been a complete stomp one way or another and I find the map design awful.

As soon as you push a team back to their base that is it, you just camp there and no counter plays can be made as there are only the two exits which tanks/sniper and rocket launchers make sure no one can leave.

Then controlling bases is just a grenade cluster spam and any external fighting means getting shot from multiple angles without much in the way of avoiding exposed flanks without having to camp behind objects and hope to slowly push the other team back.

I'n most games I've played there has been zero focus on killing the AI as by the time the decent VP guys spawn one team is pushed back to their base so it just becomes a camp fest of spawn killing with no rush to take their core as they have almost no way of leaving their base without being picked off by someone.

Has other peoples experiences been the same or is it just the 8 or so Warzone games I've played just been borked? I'm also going into this solo so I don't expect coordination or anything I just feel the map design is missing so many little flanking opportunities that each match becomes a camping stalemate at one or the other.

Something that irks me is how powerful nades are and how 'hidden' they are

It really is impossible to see where it lands and it seems like if you have less than 100% shields it will kill you from meters away

I haven't mentioned this but this annoys me too. Thought it was just me. They were so much easier to see in the previous games.

Just finished the story

Good- first half

not as good - Last half

The issues even with the beter looking areas is that they still aren't designed very well (talking about the areas that you spend most the time in in the last third of the game)

First half of the game was designed better and felt they had more time involved with it. Last areas felt a bit rushed and more akin to their Halo 4 designs but not as bad.

I'd still rather go back to covey ships and a stealth snipe mission. i really like the design and areas of the snow area being sort of big and vertically connected which is still a lot better than what we are getting in halo 5. Vehicles are a bit of a mess, they don't flow in maps where they should and design is still just way too hit or miss.

Overall I'd give the singler play a 6.4

Halo 1 - 9.0
Halo 2 8.0
halo 3 8.9
Halo Reach 8.3
halo 4 4.4
Halo 5 6.4

And for reference to some of my all time favorites

Half Life 9.4
Deus Ex 9.5
Half Lie 2 9.0
Riddick 8.8
Fear 8.8
Red faction PS2 8.8
Goldeneye 8.8
Darkness 8.5

Still have some favorites but this should help with the grading scale.

you mean that in the past halo games the needles were better to see after being shot?

yes that's actually true. suddenly there is colour all over the screen and you die.

Anyone posting numerial ratings should be required to post their grading scale along with it. WTF is a 6.4?

Anyway, I'm not sure I agree with your weighting. The last third absolutely had some weak and repetitive levels (90% of them were symmetrical Forerunner arenas), but the level design is pretty good in mission 7-12. I'd say those missions were way better than missions 3-6.

They make it hard to tell where you were sniped from too, where did that white sniper shot trail go? now I die and have no idea where the sniper was.

the sound for being hit is too quiet too, what happened to the loud meaty hit noises when I was getting shot at? even the new shield noise is toned down.

Finished the campaign. I found it to be easily the worst of the Halo campaigns, with Halo 4 being a close second. I had no idea what was going on plot-wise the whole time. I once heard that the better a story, the smaller the story-specific lexicon that is needed to tell it. If that's true, then Halo 5 failed miserably. There were so many terms and proper nouns to keep up with that I just stopped caring.

Eh, they explained the Domain, the Mantle, and anything they didn't explain was self-referential from Halo 4.

But it's all nonsense IMO so I can see why it'd be easy to drown out.

Remember when Cortana namedrops "The Infinity" in Halo 4's Forerunner mission and we go 10 minutes before she explains WTF Infinity is? At least she explained the Domain 10 seconds later this time.

Yes, that sucks. I just have to guess where the grenade is at, especially since the FOV is such shit. 66 degrees, are you kidding me?

Warzone Time on Escape from A.R.C: 11 Hours.

Warzone Time on March on Stormbreak: 11 Hours.

Warzone Time on Raid on Apex 7: 7 Hours.

More Raid, Plz!

When I think of Halo I think of being a lone survivor, a super human one of few left while humanity is struggling for survival, not armies of spartans on the attack looking for a lost love while nearly every spartan design since halo 4 is butt-ugly and doesn't look nice.

I think this is why I love ODST so much, you are a survivor, you have armor but not the best kind and the enemies you go against are bigger, stronger and more of a threat to look at then a light powered robot.

I personally bought Halo 5 for the multiplayer because it's great, but the story and single player I can't give two shits about, halo lore is great but the game's have gone too far in that direction. Look at the concept art for the chief in a cape alone against waves fo elites... THAT is what I want from Halo.

Agreed. I can't get into the "army of Spartans" direction that the series has become. And I couldn't care less about Master Chief and Cortana's "love" story. This is not the kind of game that needs a romantic relationship to be the primary impetus that drives the plot.

Can't imagine how it's worse than halo 4, but def not great. Halo 4 was much more lainer much worse enemey encounters and almost nothing good. halo 5 has a few good spots and better enmey encounters, not great but a lot better.

Hey 343, could you lower the weighting of Escape from A.R.C just a tad? This is my game history so far. With the these 10 matches pictured as my last 10 games.

I was just saying to some friends last night that I felt like we play ARC too many times and that it seems to always be the map that repeatedly gets chosen. I checked my service record...

ARC, so far, is my least played Warzone map. Stormbreak is #1, and Apex #2.

Any idea or schedule of map releases? I'm already getting sick of the current ones and I've only played multiplayer (slayer, SWAT, and war zone) for ~10 hours.

The lack of content in MP starting to show for me at the moment.

It really isn't helped by the weird ass map/gametype selection.

Playing Apex 3 times in a row doesn't help one bit.

Or Eden 3 times in a row.

Or Arc 3 times in a row.

Oh God, pls fix Franckles

diamond 4 to diamond 1 in team arena. Wish csr was based on more than just wins. People leaving and terrible teams are making it so hard to progress.

To be fair it usually takes a while to hit the required req level for tanks and snipers. If you've hit that and captured all the bases the game's most likely over any way. Sounds like your team just rolled over your opposition.

Edit
And yeah they definitely need to work on map rotation. It's my only real complaint with the game so far. There's no excuse for playing the same warzone map 3 times in a row.

John was caught off guard by the response of Lasky which made it clear that Lasky already knew Cortana was 'alive' somewhere and they did not inform him. Meanwhile Halsey already mentions that John is not fit to handle this Cortana and perhaps fears he might turn on humankind because of it. You can't risk humankinds greatest hero start a fight against the people he saved, that's why you send the best after him

Thought it was written really well. Some of the cutscenes ended too soon, I think, but I'm just a fan of really long cutscenes haha. The way Locke and Chief find common ground at the end was great. It'll be interesting to see how this handled moving forward, with all 8 Spartans (and Palmer) facing a galactic crisis on an AI threat level. I wonder if BB will show up in-game at that point as well.

It's ultimately the reason I rated MP lower than campaign in my reviews. The MP plays relatively well, but it's just starved for content.

I get more REQ points in a 5 minute warzone game than in a Arena Slayer game? why?

Arena does not give enough req points imho
