Why would this matter for a game that is mostly played in 1st person?

Sometimes you dont want a big gun in your face. Also holstering sometimes pacified people you had pissed off by hurting them or stealing from them. Wonder how you do that now.

edit: nvm, that was just referring to holstering being visible on the 3rd person model.

There's something immensely satisfying about zooming out every now and again just to look at your character. I'm sure 99% of first person TES and Fallout gamers do it whenever they equip new armour. It's the kind of thing you just expect to see, for visual gratification.

I gambled fifty bucks not my soul, I will be fine. ;-) With my expectations so low, Fallout 4 must be really atriocious to disappoint me in a serious way. And I love being able to play from the start and be part of the discussion, that's half the fun. *shrug* Even if I don't particularly like it in the end, I have hard time seeing how it would be a total waste of time on money.

It's bad because it reinforces the delusional idea publishers have that pre-order bonuses are a good idea. Obviously Fallout 4 is a fantastic example of how it should be done, no pre-order bonuses, no "buy now to get such and such early", but it's still something we should all try and cut down on. I'm also going to be playing from the start - will buy the game the second it goes live and all those reviews flood out (unless the reviews are much lower than expected, then I'll wait a day or two for gamer feedback).

If we want publishers like Ubisoft to cut the pre-order bonus crap, we kinda need to prove that games will sell well even without high pre-order counts and pre-order bonus incentives, simply by way of being a great game.

They tweaked the formula this time around.

So stimpaks heal for different amounts depending on if they are continuous?

Got the PS4 version of the game.

I would love if you could finally confirm or deny for me that when you first put a point into Lady Killer / Man Hunter, are you given the choice of either perk regardless of your characters gender?

If not maybe there's still hope for Confirmed Bachelor/Cherchez La Femme options in magazine form.

I understand and symphatize, but I personally don't care either way. It's a great and interesting point of discussion surrounding the industry but preorder bonuses (or the lack thereof) has little effect on either my life or my well-being. DLC, bonuses and stuff just don't bother me because they don't affect what or where I purchase games or other media no matter what. So for the hardcore audience, I think it's genuinely fantastic that Fallout 4 or rather Bethesda opted out to doing the usual rigmarole, but at the end of the day? Whatever.

So far I have (including suggestions from GAF users):

  • Character creation
  • Conversation with branching dialogue
  • Any glitches/funny parts, etc.
  • Loading times (difference in loading interior, exterior and just overall)
  • Crafting and settlement
  • Easter eggs
  • Cameos
  • Glitches
  • Spec Build
  • Different variables
  • Value perks

Could you please check out the controller options?

Im a southpaw player so yeah....

That's a shame to hear, but I'm also an ecologist by profession so I'm used to hearing the "but it doesn't affect ME directly, so why should I care?" comment on a daily basis anyway =(

It is fantastic though that Bethesda are one of the few developers who don't exploit their customers with pre-order bonuses and retailer exclusive content. I'm very much looking forward to buying Fallout 4 on day one =)

I had to log in and post to tell you how awesome your avatar is. RIP Vagrant Story.

Third person is legit. Running animation doesnt look terrible like it does in 3 and nv.
Unfortunately, third person has a pretty huge problem. This is what happens when the camera collides with a wall or any object and adjusts itself:

Instead of just moving forward towards the cursor and keeping the over the shoulder view, the camera moves towards the character, completely blocking your view of where the cursor is pointing. They ALMOST had it right :/

hopefully this is something that can be fixed by Beth or simple mods ASAP.

Is that hair or hat or what the hell is going on with his head?

And yeah, it looks like they got CLOSE to finally doing TP right. Like I might've mentioned earlier, I think I'm going to be playing in first person whenever I'm inside buildings or in otherwise smaller spaces and in third person when I'm outside

Yeah lol thats the hair physics in action :P

I have asked this before, but there doesn't seem to be a clear word on it. Is foliage completely static or does it actually move? Not expecting Witcher 3 levels of moving foliage, but at least a little?

What's loading like? Walled cities? Individual buildings? Subways? Are all buildings enterable?

Most small buildings have no loading screens at all. Larger buildings and dungeon type locations have Skyrim-esque loading screens. Loading seems to be faster than Skyrim though (on console).

It's identical to Skyrim. Tree branches sway and shake very realistically, as do grasses, but there's only ever a light breeze. The Witcher 3 nailed dynamic wind, but went overboard by making trees sway ridiculously, presumably to make sure players noticed the tech? One day we'll get a game with realistic gentle breeze (like Skyrim/Fallout 4) and dynamic wind strength like The Witcher 3, but that day is not today (nor is it November 10th).

Details on Survival mode please.

No, of course not yet. Theoretically both versions look/run the same (resolution, fps, IQ etc.) but I'd get the PS4 version in your situation. Most reviewers received the PS4 copy and this is a nice indicator which version might run or look better in general. Also most third party games seems to run/look better on PS4 this generation and I doubt this one will be an exception (was vice versa last generation, especially for bethesda games).

Thanks, that is telling. I didn't know that reviewers were getting ps4 copies.

People should really stop with this conclusion.

The PS3 was every developers nightmare with its alien architecture and technology.

The PS4 is a straight forward piece of technology that was designed by sane people and is simply more powerful than its direct competitor.

Conclusion: FA4 will at least be on par, but most likely run a little better on the PS4.

I'm aware of this and its the main reason I was torn. Logically ps4 should be superior if there is any difference, especially since the main reason for ps3 problems was its architecture.

What you got?

CPU - i5-6600K 3.5ghz
GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC ACX 2.0+
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-
Storage - Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151

The rest is just basics

I only plan on playing at 1080p as that is my monitor and I wanted to keep it under $1500 CDN which is like $1100 USD

Yay, but you made it sound like Bethesda made XBOX versions better in the past because they like Microsoft more.

Case bro, what case? I love good case, personally rocking Fractal Design's Define S. That one was calling my name when I build my rig last August.

That asked very well rounded rig, hopefully you get your parts by time for release!

I actually havent ordered a case yet :/ Was thinking of going to CanadaComputers or something on the weekend and getting one. I hear good things about Fractal, I will look into the one you mentioned.

Reasonable PC build for full HD gaming. Enjoy it :)

There's a difficulty called survival, nobodies sure if it's just a harder difficulty or if it's anything like hardcore mode.

Ah ok. thx.

Thanks how about walked cities? Also are all buildings and floors enterable? A few of the screens show a ton of muli-level buildings

Can't go wrong with FD's Define R5 or S. Biggest difference between the two being that S doesn't come with any optical drive bays, HDD/SSD's are attached to backside of motherboard.

Hi, does weather (rain) go through building ceilings still now that you don't need to load every interior? Does the rain make your character appear wet, like the Wet and Cold mod for Skyrim? Thanks!

Those who are playing, any cool emergent moments yet while exploring?

I remember one of my favorite moments in Fallout 3 was while traveling to Arefu, seeing a bunch of raiders fighting off a Yao Guai, and the creature just tearing them to shreds, heads and limbs flying. And then charging me as I approached

Just got a notification from Game UK about a delivery today. I thought "there's no way they'd have fucked up and sent me my copy almost a week early, wtf?"

Turned out it was the bobble head I'd ordered........disappointed

So unless I am fucking up the math completely, the game will be VPN unlockable (NZ) on Steam about 13.00 november 9th in western Europe?

Yep. Lunchtime UK the day before release, basically. If you're on Xbox One you can also buy it early from the Singapore digital store.

Someone with early copy bless me with knowledge, please!

Is there option to hide helmet? Some that I have seen are fricking ugly and wouldn't like to see them, especially during dialogue.

I recently did a slight upgrade and got a new case because my old one was awful with airflow and I got the Cooler Master Storm Trooper. It's the heaviest case I've picked up, weighs like 14 kg empty but it's amazing. Best case I've ever owned. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119297
