I'm speaking for myself, and I'm pointing out how embarrassing it is that people want more positivity even from shady pr tactics such as the one in which this thread is based on. You are one of those people, I know that based on the posts you made in this thread and based on the way you're responding to my posts.

No need to go that far. We'd just prefer actual numbers. I don't think a single person is trying to claim that Halo 5's launch is an epic disaster, nor is anyone honestly trying to say that, all objective matters considered, that it's the most impressive. Both of those statements would be equally silly and people should be hounded for saying such things, so it works both ways. But because reasonable-sounding figures don't sound good when handed to the media, we get increasingly silly level of bullshit.

We just want things in context. They're handing us a bunch of unknown knows and known unknowns, aka PR spin. You could say they're forcing us to... Hunt The Truth™...

. Or they could just give us actual sold through numbers and end any debate instantly (but we already know they won't).

Some gamers are blinded by brand name and it doesn't matter which forum they frequent. It's become more apparent in this thread who is about a brand and not the games. That goes for both sides.

I think you misunderstood my post. I am one of those who would like to know the real numbers, my post was directed at the people who are okay with the spin from Microsoft and want less negativity towards them
 
I think all sides just need to stop creating strawmans to attack. Either name names or don't put out vague "oh look at all this positive/negative spin" comments.
 
Congrats Microsoft and 343i, looks like another big launch for Halo. Whether or not it is or will be the best selling Halo, its certainly a huge title and continues to bring great games out with a lot of success. Good job
 
Lately, threads in general around here have been bringing out the worst in people. So much so that I'm starting to be nitpicky and see nothing but negatives in games I should otherwise be enjoying. I think it's time for a break. :o

The whole vibe on Gaf surrounding Halo 5 reminds me of how Watch Dogs was treated, and that was no fun for people who enjoyed WD's.
 
1 hour + since I began installation. I just can't get over how next gen this is every time I get an Xbox One game disc. Combine that with how pathetically small the hard drive is compared with the average game size and you're really on the cutting edge of gaming. Also the Gamestop employee that ninja'd me a pre owned copy of a 3 day old game. The quintessential console gaming experience. I'm riding that console gaming high right now.

I will wait for NPD before jumping to any conclusions.

But, usually, just usually, when big companies such as Microsoft or Apple refuse to reveal the actual number or come up with some fancy talk to cover up the number, it means that the product is not doing as good as expected.

I think there is a lot of people who want to see Halo fail. Its been the case for a very long time. So i wouldnt say the two relate.

Anymore i dont even take forums serious.

You know PR in general is (in your terms) a shady business. Whether it's for a major corporation, a celebrity, a sports team, or a politician, the goal of PR is to promote the positive. MS isn't the first and only entity to do it, nor will they be the last.

The bottom line is, 400+ million dollars generated by a game in one week is phenomenal. Doesn't matter that it includes hardware, it's still revenue generated by Halo. I would imagine many 360 players who were still on the fence waited for the Halo5 bundle to make the switch. If MS wants to count that as revenue generated by the game. I cool with it.

Yeah, but given Nintendo's situation, and the fact that they're still very open regarding their sales numbers, I think it's a bit distasteful that Microsoft refuses to divulge numbers that are surely very good

Nintendo are primarily a video games and related items company, video games are a very small part of Microsoft's business. Sure Microsoft could be more open but I think the effects of not being so are very different for the companies

Including hardware sales is means you can't say Halo generated $400m. They would have sold a significant number of consoles anyway. It's that time of the year.

Numbers would be interesting to know, but it isn't the only factor that determines the success of a product or franchise. As numerous people have mentioned, profit and revenue are important as well.

Halo 5 has apparently made Microsoft a lot of money in a short period of time. Whether that comes from software, hardware, accessories, or a combination of all three isn't really the point.

Yeah pretty sure microsoft combining software and hardware revenue has produced a lot more negativity than if they revealed strictly software sales

If anything diminishes value around here, it would MS's obfuscating PR spin and the Halo fanboys who willingly take said PR at face value.

The "profit" cheerleading is getting absurd. Is this game having a bigger or smaller -- in terms of games sold -- launch than previous Halo games? That's all people want to know. I don't care if the themed controller bundles did well.

Either it sold a lot of copies or it didn't. We know how each Halo game has sold. It is a fair comparison to see how this one sold.
