Halo 5: Guardians Smashes Record with Biggest Halo Launch (games/hardware) in History

Halo 4 didn't have a decline in the UK sales like 5 did to be such a driving force for discussion.

Lets be honest - X360 was liked more than the PS3.

Leave it this way - even if UC4 were to have terrible numbers compared to older UCs - it ain't driving a giant discussion here. Sony has the mindshare of a lot of hardcore gamers - which heavily includes NeoGAF, and people are liable to give them the benefit of the doubt as opposed to MS currently.

Hell - see Valve and the microtransactions discussion.

Also, I'm very interested to see how much folks care when the actual, final numbers come out for 4Q 2015 somewhere in the first couple of months next year in the MS quarterly report out. :D

Somehow, I do not think this level of interest will be around when the actual numbers are finally released. :D

I'm sure dominance and favoritism has an effect on drive by posts. I don't doubt that. But I don't think it has any effect on sales discussion, certainly not the one/s I was/am participating in.

If UC4 opens to less then UC3, there's a massive problem.

If we had numbers, this thread would be twice as large by now.

No need to wait that long.

NPD is coming out soon and we'll see how much Halo has declined (increased???) since 3&4.

We will never know because they said this game had way more of a digital presence than other games. Kind of messes with the numbers.
Yea and Black Friday and Christmas will mean boatloads of sales for Halo, especially after the word of mouth on how good the MP is.

Yup. So in the end ....its not even worth trying to find out units sold. Because digital is gonna be the underlying theme when any Halo 5 sales talk pops up.

Oct NPD thread is going to be madness.

Didn't it only say highest digital ever, that could literally be by one copy, or 1%....

edit - there is good reason to believe that digital sales may go up in acceptance over time, but there is no evidence I could think of that would point to Halo having a much higher digital presence than any other game, COD, BF, etc.

Halo is a national treasure that belongs in a Museum

But it's play style today does not mesh well on consoles and the people use to playing COD and Battlefield or Destiny. They expect something more twitchy instead they get a grenade fest and weird aiming mechanics. Game should be moved off to PC with the other arena shooters

It's popularity has dwindled , first week sales don't impress me, anything could have first week sales, I want to see how it does against direct competition (COD)
I want to see if the population drop off and if history repeats itself

History, National Treasures, Fossils
I made these for your museum, I hope you like 'em! <3

It has been fun interacting with you, we should do it more often.

LOL. Perfect.

Seriously though, the lack of diversity in console shooters is bad enough already, I'll never understand people who want the genre to become even more homogenous.

Maybe this will finally get Microsoft to have 343 make the game that was easily the best shooter last gen

Shadowrun!!

(Kidding about 343, dead serious about the awesomeness of Shadowrun)

Especially if said franchise is still able to generate nearly half a billion dollars in a single week,

I keep seeing this "$400 million in one week" statement. People realize the PR doesn't actually say that right? It specifies by the end of launch week which if it indeed does include sales of the console bundle and the controllers includes an extra week of sales for the console (it went on sale 1 week prior to the game's official release) and 2 more weeks of sales for the controllers. Y'all need to mind the details of the statement. It is worded the way it is for a very specific reason.

We know what it says. We also know what it doesn't say.

Oh then please educate me on what it doesn't say. Because stinkles statements in this very thread make it clear that first party branded hardware is included which would mean console bundles and controllers.

Frankie would you care to explain your comments prior to release saying that Halo 5s campaign is "the biggest Halo campaign ever"? The general takeaway is that it is at best of similar length and at worst shorter than previous entries. I certainly don't appreciate being blatantly misled by you or the company who employs you prior to the release of your game.

Wow.

I'm out of this thread. Enjoy the numbers when they get released (most likely used effectively in trolling Halo/343/MS) and hope those that can't sleep at night for being misled find some sort of solace in the fact that if you're worried about being misled by a game/company, you shouldn't read/hear about anything that is happening in the world today. Especially politics. Just hide under a rock or else your life is ruined.

It's unrelated to sales so I deleted the comment in the interest of staying in topic. Guess I wasn't fast enough. Even still that doesn't change the fact that people were purposefully misled and the fact that this occurs elsewhere in the world does not magically excuse when it occurs here or in the context of gaming. It's its shitty here and it's shitty everywhere else too.

For now a resume of what we have about sales...

+ UK 150k in October (first week)
+ Germany 1st place (we need to wait the BIU award to see if it crossed 100k or not)
+ Spain not charted in October
+ Japan 7k in October

NPD is next week.

Honest question, but do you even have an xbox one? I really hope you're not one of those people playing up the butt hurt card when you haven't played the game and never intend to.

Damn, I am dizzy from that spin. Masterful stuff there.

I have played the game 2 nights.
First night I played both SP and MP, enjoyed the MP more, but did critique the SP for being pretty formulaic.
2nd night I played the SP for about 70 minutes and felt as if I was just going through the motions.

Have not touched it since and kind of wish I got a retail copy as with everything else coming out I am interested in, including NFS this past Tuesday, Fallout 4 and Tomb Raider next week, so Halo 5 is no doubt going to go to the back of my queue. Would have loved to get that double trade in value from Target tomorrow.

Oh well, I am sure I will revisit it at some point.

People are interested in sales because they're interested in sales. Knowing if there has been a decline and to what extent are simply interesting pieces of info for those that like to dabble in sales discussion. Other hobbyists like to know many aspects of the industry, not just if a game is fun. Knowing this information is its own reward irrespective of one's enjoyment of the game in question.

I'd say that other than the obvious trolls, the majority of discussion has been "reasonable." Wanting to know sales numbers has driven millions of posts and page views on this site for the last decade... Why should this be different, especially considering it is a game from one of the most iconic franchises in 20 years?

you only need to glance at the avatars of some of the posters in this thread to throw doubt on the claim that it's just a neutral discussion about plotting trends in videogames

You gotta name some names man. Vague stuff like this is annoying as hell.

It's akin to the idiotic posts earlier accusing people of being "MS fanboys" in arguments.

I think there is plenty of reason for people to comment on the spin present in this release regardless of the presence (or notable lack) of specific sales figures. It's carefully worded to imply things that aren't true and people take offense to that regardless of whether or not sales figures were released. It's completely within reason to criticize and correct that kind of statement as it is designed to spread misinformation which benefits nobody but the company delivering it.

I'd agree, except the people who are criticizing and correcting don't even know if they themselves are actually correct yet.

and it's not like that $400M starts from zero, this all cost MS a fair wad of cash. What if they already spent $405M on Halo 5? Imagine all this work just to lose $5M. At least Greenburg kept enough by to get his Wookie photo done :(

Where did they say that?

It's just PR dude. You have to learn to not take these kind of comments seriously. If a dev says their game will take 12-15 hours then generally you take off up to a half of that total to reach the true figure for the typical player.

Isnt Germany one of the worst markets for XB1 hardware?? Surprised at that position if so.

Doesn't mean much, because there were no other big releases in the week. Wrestling is not big here. But it is probably the first XBO game that charted on #1, so that's quite good.
But we'll have to sale awards or the next weeks' charts.

In other news: GT Time is discussing the topic.
