Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Hope we get some more juicy info from this update. Didn't come out on PC though so I'm not sure how much harder it is to get this stuff from the PS4 version.
You already know my stance on this issue.
Have you seen Raise the Red Lantern and Coming Home?

16 is a perfect roster size. Personally, I'd even prefer a smaller one.

The bigger it gets, the less you are being able to adapt to all the different match ups...

16 is a great amount of characters for the initial release. That's as much as SF4 had for the arcade release, which was the initial version. Besides, there were a lot of complaints that the roster got too big by USF4 which makes it bad for people who want to jump in 2 or 3 years down the line as it's a lot of matchups to learn. I know Ultradavid is someone that doesn't want the roster to get too big for example.

SF4 arcade was 17 characters. Akuma was only hidden for like 2 days. First home version had 25.

SFV is starting very low and will climb to 22 way slower than SF4 took to get to 25. It's already tracking slower.

I'm not sure how I feel to be honest. The biggest issue is leaving out fan favourites. We might not want or expect Twelve or Remy, but I don't want yet another SF game to omit Sean for example. I'd be fine with a smaller SFV only if it focuses on the characters that SF4 excluded.

So far it's doing that. We have 4 Alpha characters that weren't in SF4. 2 of the 3 SF3 reps from the DLC were not in SF4. Maybe they can get away with a roster in the 30s if they do this. But otherwise if they start regurgitating the staple characters then I'm gonna be clamoring for the non SF4 fighters and in that case make the roster big as heck please.

Way slower? It's the same amount of time if not less. And Sean is a fan favorite but not Karin and Alex? Everything in your post is confusing.
Yes. But Hero has prettier colors.
I'm just happy you watched Coming Home. Gong Li killed it in that movie.

Btw if you want gorgeous to look at, watch the new Hou Hsiao-Hsien. The Assassin might be the prettiest movie I've ever seen.

You likely need perspective if you're that confused.

7 months after the first release, SF4 had 25 characters. 14 months after the first home version it had 35 characters.

~10-12 months after the first release, SFV will have 22 characters. About ~10-12 months after the first home version it will have 22 characters. Of course first and home are the same this time, but with either metric I'd call that a significant reduction. How could you honestly not?

I'm not sure how exactly to counsel you on the fan favourites, since I did not mention Karin or Alex. It's a big issue having a small roster and still trying to offer many of the fan favourites, basically.

Almost got me. 8/10

we basically have 8 new characters with how drastically different the Alpha group has been.

Its tracking behind SFIV pace, yeah but thats probably because it takes more resources to make them overall. This a brand new game, I am sure the pace will quicken as they get the hang of it.

People really seem to not get that making games is hard and is getting harder, so what happened in the past doesn't exactly dictate what happens today.

16 is fine. Especially with how different the cast is so far....relax

Indeed. Unless "fan favorite" no longer implies "a large number of fans" as opposed to "a favorite of a fan somewhere," I cannot imagine in what universe poor Sean is a fan favorite. And that's even if we grant Karin and Alex that status, which is a stretch to begin with.

They can't even use "we don't have the license anymore" as an excuse, because they'll immediately make any all all money they spent on be license back.
Ah, still more proof we have a meeting of minds. In my insane prophecy, profits from the downloadable Next Door/Indestructible alone will be enough to finance them up through Street Fighter VII.

It's entirely possible that the second year would pick up the character release pace. No longer have to give people time ti learn the initial roster, can't let fight money pile up too high, series anniversary and they'll likely try something to keep interest up in casual fans like a second story season or something.

Ah, I get it. Does it look like I am complaining that SFV is presently leaving out fan favourites? It sort of does, that was poorly phrased. I am not complaining that SFV is not offering fan favourites. Karin, Mika, Urien, etc are nothing less than the definition of that.

In the context of small rosters that I was responding to, they will leave out many fan favourites. Thus I'd only be fine with a small roster if it was heavily slanted towards non SF4 playables, which so far they are doing to their credit. But can the keep it going, and will a small roster satisfy enough fans?

Theyre releasing 22 (or more) year 1. 6 is definitely not enough for year two.

A bit late on that one man.

Anyway, Fan's voice.

I'm guess this is from a story mode cut scene where he's confronted by Cammy and Birdie?

If he's just Bison's lackey than the boss of the game is definitely V-Trigger Necalli or Urien.

It's definitely v-trigger Necalli since Urien won't be out for this season of the story.

And the voice clips are a Cammy Vs Birdie fight. Guess the latter has the dolls for some reason. Strange that Birdie would go back to Bison since the latter experimented on him.

Oh god, Fan sounds terrible. Did they really need to include a joke character in the first 16?

Have you not seen Birdie or?
