AoEIIHD: African Kingdoms shares balance with prev xpac, releasing Nov 5th 2015

I'd have to see what time period and focus they go with the game. AoEII HD scratches my Age itch pretty good.

I'd like to see a return to ancient civilisations given it's quite clear at this point that too many of the source assets for the original Age of Empires/The Rise of Rome have been lost to time for a remaster to be viable (similarly, Gearbox never did manage to track down Homeworld's Cataclysm expansion). Reimagining those games with a modern engine would be the next best thing.

I've wanted a remake of the original AoE for a long time, but I'm a bit torn since the era has been revisited in games like AoM and AoE Online already and we haven't yet had a Medieval AoE game with a 3D engine.

In any case, I hope they don't try to make a modern or futuristic game. Leave that to another series.

Is it just me or is there some kind of bug with tower range? Several times the game has said a target is out of range even though it can fire at other targets that are further away.

Is there an OT or proper thread for this? Didn't realize it was dated, picked it a bit ago.

Portuguese stuff looks amazing, and I liked Organ Guns in AoE3. I probably won't like their tech tree much, will have to see though.

Oddly, I have differing opinions on what I want to see based on how they handle it. An AoE1 era game that's sold as AoE4 could be neat if they modernized it. But if they sell an AoE1 "remake" or something, I'd much rather it fall back on AoE1's mechanics and limitations, maybe even stick with sprites.

I still like playing AoE1. I'd loooove a sprite-driven remake of the game.

It blows my mind that these games are getting new official content. Age of Empires II is 16 years old. Good lord that's cool.

I agree! I wish more old games would get such a treatment.

(Capcom should totally do this for instance with Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike for a PS4 version of the Online Edition by adding some new characters, stages and rebalancing!)

I would do anything for Age of Empires 4. Probably my most beloved series ever.

I hope that they don't go into modern tech also though and keep it around medieval / classical era's. If we could have massive population caps that would be grand too with fully destructible environments and buildings.

This is the dream.

Age of Mythology 2 would also be great as would Rise of Nations 2.

Oh and also please please please release it on Mac too so I can play on my laptop!

I'm surprised there's no OT for this, I didn't know the expansion was coming out until I saw it in the Steam new releases list the other day while I was looking for Mushihimesama.

I also wasn't aware of The Forgotten, either, but my girlfriend and I are both pretty big AoE fans from back in the day so we snagged the bundle on sale and have been having a blast playing multiplayer with all the new civs.

Unfortunately there have been a few issues with games dropping out and lag; I really wish this game supported LAN because our internet hasn't been super reliable these last few days. Plus we had a weird bug where the first time we played regicide it started us with two bases for no apparent reason. I don't think that's even an option.

Some issues might be because I'm running the game in WINE but still

Probably not the best place to post this, but seems to be the most recent thread.

So I got the game two days ago, and installed it yesterday. I tried to run it today, but it just doesn't start, I don't get an error message, nothing happens. When I launch it says its performing a first time set up installing "Microsoft VC Redist Package" with 6 items needed to be set up, but after that's done nothing happens. Any ideas? I am on Windows 8.1

Can't really help you out with your specific problem but it's worth noting that the game is pretty buggy after the latest hotfix. You could try opting into one of the previous beta versions to see if it will launch for now, at least.
