I never had anyone say anything to me racist but are we really comparing miltant southern groups, beatings, constant racial segregation in the school system and police brutality to racial slurs? The south has a serious issue and it's been like this for a long time so stop trying downplay how bad racism is down there.

I grew up in a very rural part of the Northeast, the northern Adirondack region of NY actually. I'm not going to speak for any more than the region I'm familiar with, but trust me when I say there are just as many racists where I grew up, it's just like 95% white so there are less interactions with minorities in generall so you don't hear about it. I went to a K-12 school of 650 students, and there was one black family in town, so 2 black kids in the entire school. One of the kids was in the grade below me, and while he was fairly popular in the school, I saw so many kids use him as their token black friend so they could justify their racist jokes and comments. He was on our basketball team, and I remember there was one school that he wouldn't play away games at because the first time he was there, the home team (players and attendees) kept saying that we needed to get the monkey off the court and yelling racial slurs and calling him nigger under their breath just in earshot.

Again, not saying that means the north is "just as bad as the south", but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the racism in the north is less apparent because there is less interaction.

Same here. Rural Maine. Lots of confederate flags and "Obummer" sentiments. In some ways the northern redneck is scarier than the southern redneck - at least you kind of know what to expect from a southern bigot. The northern flag waivers can't even claim their "heritage" as a sorry excuse.

If they are donations for "legal defense" I don't know about that.

There really is NO good excuse for sites like gofundme to not have rules in place to prevent shit like donations to people charged with hate crimes or whatever. How about just no legal defense campaigns period if we want to cover the cake bigots too.

No matter how much society changes, there will always be enough monsters out there that they can easily pool their money to make rich anyone who does something monstrous in the public eye.
