English has been the agent of linguistic subjugation enough throughout history without ignorant racists entering a rage when someone dares to speak the language from where they hail.
Language death is a very serious and overlooked issue, stories like this are part of the problem. Within language can be found the collective shared histories, culture and stories of a people. Linguistic diversity should be encouraged, and I think as native English speakers who for so long forced much of the world to abandon their tongues and take instead our own, we have an obligation to ensure that people not only feel as though it is tolerated for them to speak in their language whilst in the US, UK etc, but to feel actively encouraged to do so.
Just don't understand cases like this. Outdated nationalistic 19th century sentiments crossed with bigotry and racism I suppose.
