Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

I'm curious as to the population distribution among Arena ranks/divisions.

Are they designed with a target distribution in mind? For example (with the exception of Champion):
1/6 in Bronze
1/6 in Silver
1/6 in Gold
...
1/6 in Onyx

Or is the distribution more of a normal/bell curve?
few in Bronze
some in Silver
many in Gold
many in Platinum
some in Diamond
few in Onyx

Or something pyramid-esque, like:
most in Bronze
fewer in Silver
still fewer in Gold
...
fewest in Onyx

I am aware that the game cannot perfectly enforce a consistent distribution among ranks (e.g. the top 10% will always be Onyx) because of how the one-way progression works: you can advance a rank, but never drop down, so the distribution should become more top-heavy as time goes on and people rank up (but never down). Still, I am curious about how the ranking distribution shakes out in practice, and if there's at least a goal distribution from 343's end.

I'm also very curious about this - behind the scenes information on this stuff would be amazing

That guy who spent $300, bought another $300 in REQ packs. Still didn't unlock things like the Phaeton. Though he did pretty much unlock every single armor and visor and a ton of specialized weapons and vehicles.

I tried that trick someone posted for fixing the aim acceleration by swapping the thumbsticks on my elite in the app then swapping back in game with southpaw. I don't think it totally removes aim acceleration as there is still a transition to maximum turn speed (if I'm understanding it correctly) but it definitely changes something.

Moving/looking around feels better and my aiming just feels more consistent (although not immediately improved). Only played a few matches with it in Warzone but I got nearly 50 kills one match. The real test will be arena I guess. I've been stuck at Diamond 5 in one playlist afraid to go in because I'd like to get to Onyx but don't want to deal with the teammate slot machine that is matchmaking. Played shotty snipes all weekend instead.

First Arena match was 3vs3 team slayer, two guys on my team quit in 15 seconds.

So I did 1vs3 and had a horrible time. GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION. not blaming 343 obviously, but really annoying...

Agreed. There are also tons of precision weapons available to you at pretty much all times of the campaign. I actually like using the Carbine, the light rifle and the DMR much better than the BR.

While talking about weapons, I'm looking forward to seeing how "The Answer" works against a Heroic level Warden on my second play through. 343 should put legendary weapons on MP maps because that thing is beastly. It would be cool if a weapon pad could have a random power weapon or a legendary weapon spawn in a social arena playlist.
I was thinking about this, in BTB what if a variant had you fighting over "power vehicles" like the oni variations, maybe you have to hold something or bring something back to your base and it will spawn.

Playing with randoms, who proceed to quit within 30 seconds of the match starting, really sucks. This happened just about every match last night. Is there a HaloGAF group/clan? I am just looking for a steady team that plays most nights. Not super competitive just good old MP fun a few nights a week.

Halotracker should have the stats to show how ranks are kind of distributed so far.

If not, someone build it. Maybe I'll build it.

Dropping 600 dollers on cosmetic items in halo is beyond ridiculous

I hope he made about that much from his YouTube hits

I was fortunate to not run into too many issues with getting trapped in a corner, but there were obvious times where I had my position and the enemy theirs and we had to just fight it out at distance. I'll be interested after Mission 15 to see how many times I actually died. Maybe it wasn't so easy to get to the end as I make it out to be. Regardless, I've really enjoyed Legendary. Compared to other games that make this mode absolute hell (CoD 2 back in the day..... why did I even try to get 1000 achievements?!?! So much rageeeee)

While I complain about getting trapped, I should give the campaign credit where credit's due, in that it feels like Jackals and Crawlers are much more aggressive in this game. I'm much more likely to get killed by the crawlers who popped up behind me while I was focused on the Soldiers, or even the Grunts who jumped up to the platform I was on while I was focused on ranged targets. That's the kind of difficulty that feels much better to me than "oh we increased their damage by 2X and they fire faster and 100% more accurately."

I'd love to see that too. My assumption based on the people involved is that H5's ranking brackets are designed like SCII, in that each bucket holds a % of the player base up until the top tier which is absolute ranking.

I don't know what the hell I did to get placed in Onyx for SWAT. To be honest, I feel like playing with Diamond and Onyx players all of the time in that mode is just too damn serious.

Great, now I can't find Warzone games.

Sake 343... Why can't you just match me up with Americans when you can't find me a game on my closest server?

Better yet, let me choose my own server!

What is the trick exactly?

Use the Xbox accessories app (you may need an elite controller to use it right now, not sure) to swap thumbsticks. Then go in game and swap it back by turning on Southpaw. Maybe it's placebo, haven't played enough with it, but a few other people have posted about it here which is where I heard about it.

Is there an easy way to measure aim-acceleration? Maybe a video comparison could shed some light.

Huh? You certainly can rank down. Lose a few games and find out. Experience level and rank are separate.

A division, I mean. You can rank down within a division (e.g. from Platinum 2 to Platinum 1) but you can't go from Platinum to Gold.

I'm not sure they have the data, since I believe Halotracker only pulls stats for a Gamertag when you request it. So the data they do have would be colored with some selection bias: the people who care enough to look up their stats on Halotracker are probably more skilled (and thus higher ranked) than the total Halo MP population.

That's cool man, a good team with good call outs and knowing how to play can go a long way. i sitll feel a little lost but when i take the time to play smarter I can make a huge difference.

I think it's a mind game though, I had 1 kill the first 5 min of one game and then I just told myself to set up and play smarter and went on a frenzy. i still don't know the call outs though.

do people go by rocket, top rockets or they use the names that 343 gave
I just go with the callouts that the game gives me on the bottom left.

Wow.. were they pro players?
You should think of competing in tourneys. You are crazy good from what I've seen

Holy Jesus

You're a beast
I went a little negative, but I had a shit ton of assists and second highest team player damage. The true mvp of that game was teamwork and calling out. Having a good team makes a world of difference. We also had a teammate who was just doing really, listening to our callouts, and cleaning up our kills.

That match was sweaty as all hell. The first match on truth they played super aggressively, it caught us off guard. Second match? Teamshots for days. Punished them for that aggro play.

Onyx Boyz.
Champion Boyz soon.

I'm onyx in FFA and plat in everything else but breakout. I think I'm gold 3 or 4 right now. I should hopefully get it up to plat this week though. Not bad so far for being a primarily solo player.

Oh and I did get diamond and shotty snipes too but I don't think that really matters.

I imagine the ranks are pretty bell curved but with the right half being in greater number than left half due to no rank downs. Seems like a small percentage of people would actually stay in bronze or silver.

They have CSR leaderboards, though, so they store some info. And you'd be surprised how many low rank people are actually interested in their stats (if LoL numbers can be used as comparison).

Nope, my 5 Loss in a row at Warzone, making it:

TOTAL WINS
75

TOTAL LOSSES
89

Ugh, I just can't do this anymore.

The losses have sapped all motivation and fun out of playing this game.

How do you guys deal with a bad run of matches?

I stopped worrying about winning or losing and just focused on bettering my sneak game.

In Warzone I'm more concerned with my mini mission of taking and keeping the base farthest away. I do the same thing in Conquest. Win or lose I feel I'm contributing and having fun.

Just looked and I think I'm at 31 wins vs 31 losses. lol

Aren't the CSR leaderboards only taken from people who've looked up their stats on Halotracker though? I'm not saying they don't store information, but in the case of RandoJones1994 who played 10 matches of Arena, ranked Silver, then moved onto COD or Fallout, any survey of the ranking distribution that leaves him out will be incomplete. 343 would know about him since they own his data, but Halotracker wouldn't.

I just don't really care if I lose a warzone match as long as I did well.

Dang. Even when I solo queue half my Warzone games I still win 80% of my matches. I'm currently 45-8 in Warzone I think.

Then again, all I do is mad frag. I think I drop 40 Spartan kills a match, so pretty hard for the enemies to get anything done when I'm keeping them off bases/bosses.

Bitch please. Imagine playing with a group of people who win 20% of the time. How about spending your Saturday night session losing like 10 straight.

I just don't really care if I lose a warzone match as long as I did well.

Same. I've never played a game where I care less about the score than I do during Warzone.

Ranked arena is a whole different story but Warzone is the most laid back I've ever been in an fps game.

I stopped worrying about winning or losing and just focused on bettering my sneak game.

I have made mini tasks for me, but getting pushed back and have streaks of 5 Losses, then 1 Win, followed by 6 Losses is not that great.

I mean, I just played 2 matches today as I weren't motivated to when I woke up 6 hours ago...lost twice...shut game off and left in a worse mood than when i started haha.

I only seen a win like 7 times at the weekend and like 15 Losses.

Had 6 Straight Losses, which I put down to like 2 hours of suffering nothing but watching my teammates lose point after point.

At this rate, i'll be at 20%!

Easily fixable, though. Query the ranks of all the players from your last match and store it. Eventually you'll have enough data to get an approximate.

Not sure I'm following you. If I'm diamond, won't my opponents skew toward diamond level? I don't even think I've seen a bronze player in matchmaking yet.

I just flip between playlist or mp if on losing streak, gotta change it up
But man mood certainly affects your gameplay in halo
Frustration, missing shots, spawns, everything gets to you lol

In Warzone, take both the armoury locations and the take the garage/spire/fortress. Because you can totally pincer the shit out of those locations if you have the coordination.

I dream of a 12 person team with a plan.

I will say that during a close match that isn't determined by a boss kill or core destruction hearing Palmer alternating between "gained the lead" "loss the lead" for the last 100 or so points is nerve racking. It's a sudden death feeling that last a lot longer. lol
