I have to say, I really enjoyed my first 4-5 hours. As someone who strongly dislikes Fallout 3 (and never even touched NV for that matter) this feels like a vast important in all categories where 3 irritated me. Smaller emphasis on VATS pleases me, shooting feels tighter, character models look less appaling and building and caring for a settlement is fun so far. Good stuff.

How do armor/ chems that temporarily increase stats affect buying perks? Can I buy a perk if I only meet the requirement because of the temporary boost?

It is. She really loved New Vegas to the point of having a dozen characters, getting all of the trophies, etc. Its really bumming her out at how not-Fallout Fallout 4 is.
It's really not that different...

What specifically is she not liking? What could she do before that she can't do now? Because personally it seems a lot like FO3 to me, so I'm curious.

Did you grab the
"You are SPECIAL" book from your house post-apoc? Lets you add +1 to any SPECIAL point pretty much at the start of the game.

(more very early game stuff, though a lot of people may have missed this and may want to see it)

Yep,
I only had 4 in charisma and raised it to 5 thanks to that extra point,

[About 4 hours in] OK, I've rescued
Preston and his band of immortal Minutemen from certain death (ugh) and they're off to Sanctuary where they can spend their eternal lives watching the world turn to dust
. Once I reach
Diamond City
I'm finally going to let go of this game's forceful guiding hand and branch off.

Looking over the list, "Aiden" is recognized.

I guess I need to re-evaluate how good I think I am at games because hard is kicking my ass at level 6.
I've been playing survival and it was pretty tough until about level 9. I saved my power armor for times when I thought I'd specifically need it and that helped a lot. I love how the power armor functions in this game. It feels like you're in a walking tank and can take a lot of damage even on Survival difficulty but you can't abuse it(at least not yet) due to the limited juice.

So what happens if you leave your armor sitting somewhere because it died?
It stays there until you retrieve it.

I've barely played much of the story or side quests. I keep running around and scrapping everything figuring out how I'm going to build my settlement. I've spent more time doing that than anything else lol

4 hours in and I just got to Red Rocket Truck Stop rofl

If I change the handle on a pistol into more of a stock and make it handle like a rifle, does that change the classification of the weapon as it pertains to perks?

Riley who is barely scraping by in hard mode.

Probably Brotherhood of Steel questline major spoilers (wouldn't know, haven't even joined em)

Jokingly killed Danse and his squad
Interesting drops to say the least :V
Synth Components

I mean, if thats a later spoiler, kind of hilarious how you can find that out.

I was just reading that if you craft something and it uses some but not all of the components of an item it breaks down, the ones not used are actually lost? Is that working as intended because I really don't want to have to break down all my junk manually just to save some stuff from being lost in the process.
Reposting to hopefully get confirmation on this. Can't play atm or I'd check myself.

5.9 user rating on metacritic, and it keeps dropping. Not very good at all, considering fallout 3 has 8.1 and New Vegas has 8.4...

Really might not get this if it's that bad.
Are you serious? Since when has the metacritic user rating been accurate in any way for a game this hyped?

So what's a good starting stat allocation? I don't really want to sit there and pore over the dumb perks "map" for an hour, can someone give me suggestions?

Right now I'm still not past the point where I can re-allocate, and my stats are:

S - 5
P - 4
E - 5
C - 4
I - 4
A - 3
L - 3

How do you craft a bed? I have the necessary supplies but it won't let me build one. It also says requires and shows the outline of vault boy.

I'm playing on Survival and I've been finding that this game has the same issue that NV and to a lesser extent (IIRC) FO3 had, which is that companions are just stupidly powerful (at least early on). I only have Dogmeat and Codsworth so far, but the latter in particular just ruins fools, and I haven't enhanced him in any way. His attacks are pretty fun to watch, though.

I like going around with a companion, for whatever banter/story stuff they have and because of their traditional great effectiveness as mules (especially since STR is often one of my dump stats). I never pick them for combat purposes. But they tend to be a bit overtuned combat-wise in the modern Fallout games, particularly in the damage they deal.

It's installing and these 7 attributes guides while the game is installing are epic. This game is already awesome. And it's just a fucking install screen!
So glad I picked this up and returned black ops.
