Max everything, even Godrays on Ultra

Runs around 60 in most places... but can drop to 30 in big areas, honestly not a very well optimized game, definitely playable most of the time though

I can jack up Godrays to Ultra and experience no fps drop at all with massively increased quality of the godrays themselves, which seems to be opposite of what others are experiencing

Alright, I don't think there's any way to tweak my settings to get it to run at 60 in cities. It's probably my CPU (i5-3570k at 3.4). DAMMIIIIIIIT.

God, I can't wait to get a Pascal GPU next year and play this For Real.

With a bit of tweaking, it's actually not doing badly on my 980 Ti in 4K. The trick was to lower Godrays to Low, that thing murders framerates. Also in 4K I don't need to use the two awful AA settings so I just turned AA off. It runs quite well now with everything else left on the Ultra preset.

I don't know how how the hell I exit this Power Armor though, can someone help me with that >_>

Broke Gysnc for this game or all games?
Good question. This is the only game I tried.

It's unmistakable though, at least in this game. So far the most stable way I've been able to play the game with gsync on is with 358.87 driver installed and the configuration tool enabled which limits FPS. Lastest nvidia driver has not improved performance in any way. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that it enables vsync in the nvidia control panel and breaks gsync.

So I repeat, to those of you who have recent unexplanable drops in frame rates/responsiveness, this is because VSync is enabled in your nvidia control panel as a result of the lastest game ready drivers.

358.91 vsync setting "on"
358.87 vsync setting "global value"

ok checking in after an hour of playing

Win 10
i7 3770K
GTX 970
16GB Ram
1080p

preset made everything ultra. i turned off god ray (dont know what it is or care). everything has been smooth 60 fps so far even once i got outside the vault. hopefully once i get some more time with it ill see if it continues or starting getting some hiccups

Yeah I'm playing on my laptop with 970m and setting god rays to low everything is running at 60 fps solid now.

You hold down E, I had problems with that as well lol.

So I decided to unlock the framerate and use nvidia adaptive. The one place in the game that made me drop frames is now having no problems at all but the stutter is still there. Guess we're friends to the end.

Same setup as me except for a 4770k @4.0. It was solid 60fps until I reached Cambridge and the FPS went right in the pishadoo. Lowering settings didn't change anything and simply walking back and forth down the street a few times brought the frames back up to 60 somehow. But then walking back and forth some more tanked them again to low 40s when looking in certain directions. Definitely not a hardware problem. Hopefully patches come quickly because this game is a blast.

Yeah, it's indeed an issue with this game. I think there are some places in the game that make the framerates dip very badly. Looking at certain scenery can give good framerates, but when I pan the camera slightly to the left, for example, it dips to 30ish. Pan it again to the right, it goes back to the usual framerates. I think it's a bug, or there are too many npcs/things in that particular area so they kill the performance.

I'm happy with the performance, but anyone using a PS4 controller to play?

What's odd it is actually uses the light-bar, but the button prompts are all wrong.

I've spent hours trying to tweak this game. The fps isn't that much of an issue, but the stutter is. Honestly, when I'm looking at the results, this is just an ugly fucking game! I mean, holy fuck, how did this game come out in 2015 with as much hype as it did and Bethesda gets a pass because they've been janky af forever.

I'm having fun, kind of, but this is the first time I've played a Bethesda game where I'm pretty fucking bummed. I remember leaving the sewers in Oblivion and my jaw fucking dropped. Same with leaving the vault in FO3. What the hell happened with FO4? I mean, the stutter rips me right out of the game and what's left is PS2 era graphics.

I just fired up Witcher 3 and it blows my mind that both of these games came out in 2015. The sad thing is that I get better fps with Witcher 3 and my PC sounds like it's going to break the sound barrier when I play FO4 and for what? Shit looks like it's pushing a dozen and a half pixels across my screen.

I know what you are saying but... saying stuff like that is kind of silly and completely takes away any merit of the point you are trying to make.

I've had a good experience thus far. Windowed mode fixed my stuttering. I had 0 hype for this game so I'm enjoying myself.

Did you try what I posted pages back?

Try using iFPSClamp=60

Getting a nearly locked 60 at 1080p/ultra settings. Running an OC 4790k and Titan Black. I'll get what feel like random dips into the mid 50s every few minutes or so. I'll probably mess with shadows at some point to see if it completely locks the framerate.

I love the graphics of this game. I don't the get the fuss for the pc version

The tech isn't anything special but the game is pretty hugely beyond Skyrim and has great art and atmosphere to go with it so I've never understood the rage over it. I mean maybe there's an issue on console I haven't personally seen it nor paid attention to it but on PC I think it looks quite nice. People are absolutely entitled to their opinion but it just comes across as strange to me and I don't really care enough to argue about this stuff anymore.

I was so happy with the graphics and performance for about 6 hours. I was getting 50-60fps but mostly stable 60fps. As soon as I crossed the river right into Diamond City it just dropped to low 30's.

I tried locking at 30fps but it's really horrible. I'll try lock it at 40fps at least then the drops won't be as severe and it'll be a little smoother.

i5-4590/16GB/R9 290 4GB. 1080p. Tsaa, 16x texture filter, ultra texture, everything else on medium, godrays low (can't seem to turn off), bokeh off, ssao on. Medium object detail/fade.

I just hope AMD release new drivers and Bethesda start patching. Tried getting a refund but no luck so I'm stuck with it.

Manuel from Nvidia: "We are working with the developers to get an SLI profile out to users for Fallout 4."

7870 2GB
i5 4670k
8GB DDR3 RAM

Runs at 60fps with dips down to 40-50fps during random moments (seriously random moments, heavy combat barely drops) on medium settings at 1920x1080 with the medium preset with some adjustments (mainly no SSAO and medium textures instead of high).

So last night the game runs flawlessly for me. I boot up my save today, and I have the worst micro stuttering I have ever seen.

980ti

Any ideas?

Nice. We have similar card but my cpu is pretty much underwhelming compared to yours.
I haven't tried medium yet to try getting that 60fps smoothness, but I'm more the IQ > 60fps guy anyway.

I have problems using my ps4 controller to play the game on my pc. I am using DS4Windows. all the screen button prompts are for an xbox controller, which I do not mind but it looks like the Game does not recognize all the buttons on my pad correctly. If I hit X (Square) the game highlights both X and Y (Triangle). Same goes for B and A. Any Idea what this could be?

Hmmm.

I dont have those other two, but I just found fallout4_default.ini.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Probably. The important files are in the Steam folder as well as <Documents>/My Games/Fallout4

You'll see duplicate filenames in both locations. I'm never sure which one is being used so I make any change across the board.
