Is there a way to de-escalate NPCs you've accidentally pissed off? Finally found my first trader. Before I could talk to her, completely by accident, I picked up an item that was apparently hers and she went nuts. I immediately holstered my weapon but it didn't seem to work (or not in time) and my companion killed her >_>.

Erm... isn't that why VATS is useful? Quickly drop a couple of enemies, swat one away with a quick melee, move back a few feet to create separation from the other targets moving in, blast a few aiming down the barrel and finish the straggles with VATS once AP is replenished?

Works for me always has!

It's not very effective when my whole character is built around being a sneak attack sniper. VATS takes down 1 or 2 guys, and there are still half a dozen or more right in my face.

I hope you can play through the game and just ignore the settlement stuff completely because I am not going to waste time playing Sims lite.

Relax, obviously something on your end. Shit happens but geez, calm down.

Playing for 10 hours and only had a few very minor drops.

Yeah, my fucking console has unique parts that cause videogames to run worse than everyone else. Sure.

Played like 20 hours of FO3 on the 360 to prep myself for console bethesda again and FO4 on ps4 is demonstrably worse than that port.

Can't believe that your companions still have collision. Stupid ass dog is always in my way. Guess I won't be using companions in another Bethesda game since they only get in the way...like always.

That unique part may be you :)

So I'm level 9, didn't even do the first quest. Looking to be level 13 by then and just get the perks I care about early on. Also I got the
Cyrolater with the dogmeat fetch glitch
. Now I just need to figure out what ammo it uses.

Of all the great new things added the one I really like is Character grouped saves. So now if you have two or more characters they have their own files. Now they don't share the same group as before. Excellent. Also, no Show Your Fallout Wanderer pic thread?

I've played for a good part of the day today, and I'm somewhat mixed on the game. I like the leveling system, I like that the game is pretty difficult even on normal, I like the music, I like that skill magazines give perks.A lot of other stuff I'm not really sold on. Settlement development is a bit overwhelming at the moment. i like the gun mods, but I'm starting to feel that they came at the expense of some real unique weapons. But I'm still relatively early so maybe those get better.

I'm not really liking the Boston setting, but I haven't explored much of Boston itself yet. And the quests so far leave a lot to be desired. They're pretty bad even by Bethesda standards. The quest I've done so far, there doesn't seem to be much to them. The Witcher had a bunch of dull quests too (and a few really good ones) but even the dull quests had some good story stuff with them. Not the case here.

The new dialogue system is fine in theory, the conversations have some flow to them, but there's not much variety in what you can do in them. At least so far.

The game looks fine to me, and it's actually been running decently for the most part. There's been a couple areas where the frame rate turned to complete shit, but I think it's mostly kept around 30 fps.

Hopefully things pick up. And if not, maybe there's an obsidian Fallout in the works. Please Bethesda.

Surprised at how much negativity or just mediocre feedback the game is getting on here.
I am enjoying it, but it does seem to be a lot like 3. Perhaps people expected more out of it. Definitely not as strong of an impression the first 2 levels of Rise of the Tomb Raider left on me. Still I paid $38 and it seems to be worth it at that price.

Feral ghouls are super cool now, they run and trip and lunge and stuff. Actually, all the enemy behaviors are pretty hugely improved. Pretty cool to see people using cover and stuff. It's nowhere near the level of dedicated shooters, but it's a massive step up for Bethesda games.
Yeah I was shocked when during one of my first encounters with a bandit he immediately took cover behind a support beam, firing from his new safe position forcing me to scramble for cover myself. Very nice to have happen in a Bethesda game considering previous efforts.

And yeah, I love the way feral ghouls just fall over and bump into things while desperately charging at you at full tilt.

Alright the patch fixed my issue and I'm over my hissy fit.

The game is a really solid improvement on the Fallout model. It is so helpful not having to repair, seeing what's inside of an inventory node/body and being able to choose from it, etc. The graphics are pretty impressive running "ultra" on PC @ 1080p on my 27" monitor. The combat feels better, for lack of a better word.

My main gripe is that nothing about the game really feels new. It's like a mod for Fallout 3 or something. Maybe the story picks up later, or the perks start having more obvious benefits, but right now it really feels like I'm just playing Fallout 3 with better graphics.

Wasn't there a perk that allowed you to have two companions at once or did I make that up?

If there is what's the name of it? I can't find it on nukahub.

Enjoying the game quite a bit, even though it's giving me severe motion sickness. The settlement stuff is actually fun; I spent a good bit of time wandering around and cleaning up the junk around my neighborhood.

Serious question for serious people:

Can you not switch the perspective in third-person mode?

From left to right, like in every other third person game ever.

Apparently this wasn't possible in FO3 or NV, can't remember myself though.

Thoughts please?
On PS4, you can move the third-person camera around by holding touchpad/third-person-toggle button and moving the right stick, but you can't really change which shoulder the camera is centered over.

Have a PS4 specific question, on save files.

You know how there's a little screenshot when you make a new save file? Well, after you override that file, does your screenshot get updated?

I'm like six hours in, and my save file screenshots are still all of Vault 111. It's lame.

The save screenshots seem to updating sometimes... but not usually.

Does anyone know who to take (companion spoiler)
Curie
to for her side quest? It doesn't give you a marker and I can't find anything on it.

Damn that sucks. Playing on PC and can't find any way to adjust it.

Hopefully there is a mod for this...

Thanks for the response!

Edit -

Figured it out on PC..... I'm playing with a Dualshock 4 and it works exactly as you say.

I like that Fallout 4 like some other games directly detects the PS4 controller, so good! Will have to wait for correct button prompts though.

Camera looks much nicer now for me when I can adjust it, thanks! :)

Can someone tell me where the Parson State
Asylum
is? Need to pick up the charisma bobblehead sooner than later.

I've been making sure I carry special gear with me to put on in high radiation situations. It definitely props up a lot.
All you need is a hazmat suit, which gives 10000 Radiation protection. Found one quite early in the game, but you can also buy them somewhere.

The legendary enemies make Survival difficulty into a brutal affair. Every legendary fight I was running the gamut of kiting, VATs, switching between 4-6 weapons, throwing projectiles, etc.
Had to bump it down to Very Hard and I'm having a much better time lol, I can actually survive more than two hits now!

Question about "joining groups/factions" from a Fallout series newb.

If I join the Brotherhood of Steel, will I lose access to the stuff I've set up for the Minutemen? And if so, will they be hostile towards me?

The Trophy-whore in me wants to join the Brotherhood, but I don't really wanna lose everything I've put into the Minutemen.
