early on in the game, what's a good way to increase Luck? I didn't realize it was tied to bloody mess and would like to unlock that as soon as possible .

Started playing last night. The intro is pretty bad, it will be a chore to do all over again when I replay the game.

Anyway, my god the faces are ugly. The voice acting is not helping either. Together with the animation it ruined what I guess was supposed to be a scary emotional trip into the valve into something from a B-movie. Though it was fun to run into Nathan from Fallout 3 in the intro. But I have just started the game, I stopped playing to go to bed when I got out of the valve, and I am sure it will be great once I start actually playing the game.

Sitting here, waiting for the rest of the game to download on my DSL connection, because the disc that comes with the Pip-Boy Edition only installs 5 of 24 GB, I've decided that the next time a game comes out with a special edition that I want on PC, I'm buying a code that I can pre-load and selling the one that comes with the disc.

I'm having this problem too... not sure what/where he's finding... or does he find it and loot it himself perhaps....(must investigate!).

I had one down
behind the drive in movie theatre screen
where he ran off and barked at a junk pile in the corner.

I eventually found what he was barking at 10 mins later when I'd made it in to the locked room next door, he'd found a safe that was inside the locked room right next to the corner where he was standing barking outside.

So ummm... Why won't Codsworth say Sean or Shaun... when it's your son's freaking name and he says it multiple times during the intro?

I'm confused, are you upset that they didn't include shaun in the list of names he will say. Or are you upset because you think that since he says the name for other lines. That name should then be forever usable in any lines and contexts where he says a specific name?

This proves dogs are better than cats. Cat would just sleep all day.

Hey guys, how's this look for a starter build?

http://www.nukahub.com/tools/special?build=17.6.4.7.8

Think this'll be my starting stat allocation in FO4. Melee/Heavy Guns expert who can get into locks and computers.

There's not a ton of perks I really need, though, like 15 perk points I -really- wanna spend. Beyond that I'll be leveling SPECIAL more

Early plan is to start off tough enough to eat hits on Survival, and get good XP from high intelligence. Melee + the early minigun you get will be my arsenal until I find more complex heavy weapons. First perks will go into melee, medic, lockpick, and hacking, back and forth to balance combat growth and utility. Then I'll start throwing some points into Special, get that 9 int for the power cores and more str/end over time.

Finally, notice that I can get both Chem Resistant and Chemist with this build - I'm going to be enhancing my abilities through the power of DANGEROUS DRUGS

Okay, I sent Dogmeat to Sanctuary when I got a new companion. Where the hell is Dogmeat in Sanctuary? I can find all the other party members I sent there with no problem, but I can't find Dogmeat.
Same. I was wondering about when a mole attacked and he popped up though.

top 5 game visually on PC? it looks fucking amazing--best use of AO I've seen

The game doesn't look bad but it is nowhere near the top. AO is not bad either, but not that good.

Is a Sniper build really viable? I mean it seems like there are lots of battles to be had inside buildings where corridors and rooms are quite cramped: wouldn't that make a sniper build pretty much defenseless?

I guess that is why you also use a shotgun, huh? To balance that weakness.

I used Sniper Rifle exclusively in every Fallout game so far(1,2,3 and NV), but due to the faster paced combat, worse VATS and the fact that Sniper Rifles are really weak in this game, I just used "whatever" weapon since the beginning, once my pipe sniper rifle turned out to be crap. Shotguns with "long barrel" are seriously game great. I play on survival and they are the real deal. Now with my legendary-drop and modified sniper rifle it feels at the power level where it should have been. I still don't use it much in closed rooms, but I use it far more frequently and it's actually a better VATS weapon now. But yeah, a pure sniper rifle run is far too hard in Fallout 4 and shotguns got hugely buffed and fit far better in this game than in Fallout 3 and NV. That said, a "sniper build" is totally viable. In the beginning I regretted that I didn't go for any defense, but now that I have more HP and better armor it really pays off to be so offensive oriented. And a hidden shotgun to the face hurts just as much.

The biggest life saver is "Critical Banker" and "Better Criticals" tho. Without them, I would have died SOOOOOOOOO often when a legendary runs towards me... and I encounter those quite often on Survival. With Rifleman the most impacting skills in the game imo. Ninja is nice to have, but weaker than expected, since you deal 2x sneak damage anyway. It seemed before release that Ninja would give +2.5x, but it's actually just +0.5x, so less needed. The AP from Agility really comes in handy tho.

The only thing I will change from my "planned" build is to NOT go for Hacker. I've found so far a single computer which for which I needed hacking without the ability to circumvent that computer somehow. Not gonna waste any points for that.

Which type of shotgun. I am gonna try that
Combat shot gun. But the double barrel worked just as fine in the beginning.

Having an issue where my character is stuck right after a scene in the very beginning
basically right after his wife dies. He's unthawed, falls out of the pod, and then won't move
. I dunno if this is common or not. I'm on PS4. Will give it a soft boot and see if that changes anything.

About the language selection on Xbox One.

Do I have to change region and language on the whole console? Or can you select language in the menus or something?

Codsworth didn't like when I picked a lock to get a 5% damage increase for companions magizine. You know what codsworth? Shut up.

Just confused why they didn't re use his Master Sean/Shawn lines when they already had the audio for it. My character I built to look like Nathan Fillion and Mal's a choice so I went with that.

He didn't like when I killed a Diamond City guard I thought was a raider. Ima leave Codsworth at home next time with his judgmental self.

My bright idea of prioritizing hacker and lockpicking at the beginning so that I can get all the contents behind locked stuff seem like a bad idea right now, hahaha, since the game is so combat intensive... hahaha... :*(

Maybe I should just restart and focus my character at combat/survival abilities first before unlocking stuff like lockpicking and hacking.

This is my first Fallout game and I can see why it gets its appeal...it's addictive as fuuuuuuuuuck. Basically just had to force myself to stop playing right now or I would never sleep.

Loving this on PC so far, but technically, it's a mess. Having framerate issues in certain areas, major stuttering and the subtitles will commonly just freeze up.

Aaaaaand a soft boot worked. Strange bug. Happened twice in a row.

People in the future just don't give a fuck. Screwing around on your "significant other"? No problem! People starving, but you casually steal all of their crops so you can take it back to your own tribe? Again, no problem!

I don't understand the issue. It's not like you can put points into lockpicking and hacking every level. The game is setup in such a way that unless all you took were non combat skills, or combat skills that are actually ancilary, it's hard to not have an effective character in combat. Easiest route is to just grab the 20% pistol perk first, then lockpicking, then hacking, then gun mods (on top of actually modding your pistol even before the gun mod perk). That should set you up with enough of a foundation that if all you wanted to do was focus on everything other than combat perks from there on out (within reason), you should still be okay.

Some of this shit is character level gated anyway. Even if you wanted to focus on lockpicking and hacking, you literally can't unlock advanced or master level stuff until the game allows you to.

I skill(ed) lockpicking whenever possible. That one is actually quite useful.

edit:
28h playtime in 2 days. Not bad lol. Going to sleep now. See y'all tomorrow.

So where does dogmeat go if you dismiss him for another companion? Mine said he was sent to the red rocket but when I went there he was nowhere to be found.

Only got to play for a bit today but holy fuck this game is awesome. Ive had this itch for a long time that only a bethesda game seems to scratch. I'm sure I'll be back tomorrow to cuss them out over some dumb shit but god damn, I've never felt so compelled to search every nook and cranny for random shit since the last Fallout. The graphics are fucking great too! Seriously, so much more appealing than the drab open/empty world of MGSV.

Played a few hours last day. I hope it gets better, because so far I'm pretty disappointed in this game.

The intro sequence is just bad. It felt rushed, nonsensical and all these obvious "Feel emotional now!" of "epic stuff happening" moments made me feel nothing but apathy. The minutemen quest in the second town just didn't make sense AT ALL.

However, I found that I spent more time building a base than exploring the world. I don't know if this mechanic has any longevity, bus so far it's okay. Where can I find copper for building stuff?

It's a harsh world out there, man.

Goddamn ghouls scaring the shit outta me. They feel a lot faster than in 3 or New Vegas and sometimes just pop up out of nowhere.

That's why we have the handy meat shieldscompanions!

Was debating pursuing a sniping build or not when I stumbled on a Legendary Super Mutant who dropped a 'Initiating' modifier, which triggers double damage if the enemy is at max health.

Just gotta get gun nut up now to get the suppressor on.

Ghouls are probably one of the coolest things in FO4 thus far.

That being said, they, or any other 'hoard' of enemies showing up, really highlights how tough things can get without strong levels of VATS use.

Can someone explain to me how the scrap works. If I pick up shitty items, they can all be used to build things right? Are they broken down to base materials when I move them into the junk section at the workbench?

Also can this be done with weapons? I haven't noticed weapon a degradation system so I have been dropping weapons I don't need.

Huh. What's with that random event where
A guy is holding a gun up to a clone that looks like him?
I resolved it, but all I got was a thanks. Maybe it comes up later? Seemed really weird.

Nah, I mean putting points in *both* lockpicking and hacking. Aside from additional xp (since you can still hack terminals to open the gate even when the gate is already opened for instance) that are generally paltry anyways, and most of the time it seems like you can either lockpick *or* hack your way to get the same content, it seems better to just focus on one of them at the beginning and put points on other perks before putting points on the other.
