The game looks more colourful and vibrant than I thought it would be and certainly not dull looking like predecessors; it does have its beautiful picturesque moments :)

Only a few hours in but so far so good!

Check the button prompts when you have the trade window open - on PC at least, it's T to equip stuff.

@Sanctuary: yeah all the clothes seem to have +2 at most - maybe there's naughty sleepwear again that'll give you a higher CHA bonus. Can't wait to run around in pyjamas again just for a slightly higher discount at stores (which are fucking expensive now, goddamn).

But what's more fun, relying on charm, or pickpocketing the hell out of everyone for your discount?

do you overclock the PC?

I don't think my computer is meant for overclocking, it was built around 4-5 years ago so it's struggling lately. GPU is a geforce 560 se, and my friend tinkered with a new motherboard recently but it hasn't changed much.

I need to do a complete upgrade eventually but that'll be when I have more time and money on my hands.

I want to kill carvey and take his shit

How do I do it

Dunno how you can kill him, but if you really want his gear
head to the Super-Duper Mart in Lexington. There's a corpse clad in a Minutemen outfit and hat you can loot.

Any enemy with consumables on them has infinite consumables of that type. Just wait till you find a dude with plasma grenades. Holy fuck.

Doesn't help that their AI is set to 'run as fast they can at the player to get within throwing range, then spam grenades'.

So they're using Call of Duty player AI?

Fantastic game so far. I won't be finishing this until 2016, unless I take two weeks off to play this full time!

It is definitely a step up from the brown mush of F3 and FNV
I almost wish it was a bit more vibrant

So I just encountered (actual spoiler)
the alien! Holy shit! I can't believe I found where the UFO crashed and then found it in the cave. Is there a way to avoid killing it?

I initially got this on PC, but after not being able to go 15 minutes without the game crashing and various other issues (framerate, screen tearing, couldn't go full screen unless i changed my desktop to 1920 x 1080 (i'm at 2560 x 1080), etc.) I got my refund from steam and I went ahead and picked it up on PS4.

I hate doing shooters on consoles (i'm very imprecise with controllers) but I'm having a pleasant time so far. I've been trying to do as much weapons crafting as I can, and right now I'm just kind of exploring with the dog.
I fixed my card's problems by rolling back the drivers. 353.06 if you're using nVidia.

Welcome to every open ended game ever.

that's how every Fallout is
this is like F3, but reversed

That's kind of like every RPG ever.

The world is in peril, yet let's spend 2 hours herding goats.

Heh. This is how most RPGs work. "There's this urgent end of the world scenario but first let me level up, fight optional bosses, have party with my friends, etc"

Ha, yes exactly. I think this is generally why people rate the main story lower than the rest of the game - the story is just a distraction to the real objective of becoming an all-powerful badass and exploring every nook and cranny of the map.

I was just making a (weak) attempt at humour though - I actually have no issues with the story and think it's just as good as 3's "growing up in the Vault" or NV's mysterious courier. I get the complaints about the main character seeming to settle in a little too comfortably into a world they don't recognise, however I think that's actually more likely to be because of our own past experience with Fallout games - I can imagine someone who's never played a Fallout game experiencing an equivalent level of wonder to the protagonist upon emerging out of Vault 111. I'll never forget emerging from Vault 101 and into the Wasteland for the first time - it was the truest meaning of the word awesome for me.

Man I'm super interested in rolling a character like that.

One of the perks of doing it as melee is you can trade the enormous piles of ammo for sweet, sweet chems.

I ran into two legendary feral ghouls flanked by four more feral roamers at level 11 on my way to Diamond City. Probably thinking they were hot shit because it's on Survival. They didn't know what the fuck they rolled into, I had just cooked like a dozen BuffJet and was ready to get turnt.

Haven't tried in FO4 yet, but in all prior Bethesda titles at least you couldn't pickpocket vendors for their entire inventory, just what they carried on person.

My melee character is such a fucking juicer, man. I can't wait until I get high enough level to get the second rank of Chem Resistant.

Drugs are the best. In the wasteland, winners do drugs.

The combo drugs are crazy good. Plus the audio lines when you use them is awesome, too. Love that Psycho roid rage.

I wasn't really talking about pickpocketing vendor items, but rather everyone else for their caps or sellables to offet vendor prices.

I bought the General's Sword by selling all my stuff early and have since been cutting my way through everything. I'm not sure if I'm bored or excited by this prospect. I'm getting use out of Stimpaks, so that's nice.

What are the highest damaging fist/melee weapons, out of curiosity?

One thing I struggle with on Bethesda games and RPG's is quest overload. How do you guys ensure you only take on a few quests at a time. If I have them in my PIP boy all there waiting my OCD will kick in and I will need to do them all which could burn me out.

Where'd you find that? Spoiler tag it if needed. I think I have a non-unique version of what you're talking about.

played like 5 hours last night and i barely reached Dogmeat... yeah i love to explore every nook and cranny... thrice.

so far it's like game from my dreams. exactly what i wanted. i'm sure i'll run into issues at some point though lol.

Ah, gotcha. Can do that of course, but some stuff I've seen is still very expensive. Saw some armor pieces (not entire armor, mind you) for sale - over 12k caps each. Gotta do a lot of stealin' to cover that.

It's very early and quite expensive, but I haven't come across anything close to as powerful as it, and though I'm playing on Normal, it was super easy to acquire.

Just south of Concord you can stumble across a dispute between some Raiders and a Trader who is holed up inside a diner. The trader has the sword for purchase.

Is it possible to find/mod weapon silencers early in the game? I am just attempting the
Corvega factory quest
and getting overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of enemies all swarming me when I start a fire fight.

Or is there a better tactic for this mission. So early in the game I feel like I must be doing something wrong for it to feel this difficult!

Use the power armor if you still have energy.
Area seems tailor made for it, it even has a repair area for it inside the dungeon.

No, you can't rush weapon mods. They're locked behind perks and have material requirements.

Go do other stuff, come back to the quest later. I walked in there as a level 13 with a fully modded military sniper rifle and combat armor. Killed everything without any hassle.

Unless they decided to go a teir above it this time, probably still the Deathclaw, which you end up with early. But not sure what rank of the melee weapon perk is required to craft it.

There are places that have modded weapons/armor and people who will sell you modded weapons/armor, including silenced guns.

You guys keep hacking through stuff with swords and I keep having to resort to my 10mm pistol after I nearly run out of Fusion Cells for my Laser Rifle.

It's totally random. He could visit every single vendor in the game and none could have silenced weapons.

Or he could find a shitty silenced gun, like a silenced pipe pistol. In which case it doesn't help him at all.

Every character will eventually want to pick up perks for modding their own guns. If you're going to depend on vendors you're in for a looong search to find a perfectly modded weapon of the kind you want for sale.

Really? Where is it? I saw it falling but dunno where.

At first, I didn't know what it was because I was turning away from where the camera aimed. After a couple tries, I saw it and just exptrapolated from there. Walk in a straight line from where you see it. If
you see it by ArcJet like I did, you need to walk around the river and consult the map once you get on the other side.

My only guess is that since it occured almost at the moment when i got hit by fire which leaves a slow drain, its simply a glitch and the game believes i should still be losing health despite not being on fire anymore.

If possible, try going to the doctor in Diamond City and getting yourself cured. See if that changes anything.

Thanks guys. Might just leave it for a few levels (currently only level 7 - with no decent armour yet) and do the next main quest instead (head to
Diamond City
I think it was), then return after.

Next question: is it safe to drop and arrange items around your "house" without them disappearing? I know you can transfer items into containers/storage boxes etc.... but what if you just drop them on the floor and position them into place somewhere visible manually.

Makes decorating a home area a lot more fun if this stuff stays in place and doesn't vanish randomly.

So...are any settlements connected as far as workshop inventory goes without local leader?

For example, I just took the locket back to the Abernathy's and the workshop opens up, but is the inventory in that workshop shared with what I've already put in sanctuary or is that just shit they've accumulated themselves? Trying to decide if I want to defense them or take some of the more rare shit for my own using if it's not shared...

Only shared if you set up supply lines via local leader.
