Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

Very nice! I think you're best with the Assault Rifle, by the way. Whooped ass with it near the end, some good head shots.

On an unrelated note, how the hell do people float in the air and shoot? I know if you hold RB in the air you pause, but shooting seems to cancel it.

I personally have auto stabilizers 'ON'. So that is how it works for me; just zoom in when you in mid jump.

Surprised to see so much criticism over bosses in Warzone (not just here, everywhere).

I think the current system is pretty much perfect. Keeps everyone on the edge of their seat and makes the battles of Red vs. Blue. vs. Bosses super intense.

The only boss-related complaint I can agree with is that Commander Lochagos is embarrassingly easy for a 150VP boss. It's just a sprint of "who can get behind him and backsmack him first".

Two splinter nades and a few suppressor shots kill the fucker and you can get those easily from the soldiers.

Bosses can't be just 150 or 25 points. Points should vary based on what type of enemy it is and probably how far into the match it is. Soldier Enforcers are 25 points, yet are hella easy to take out on your own compared to a Knight.

man I'm never going to make it to onyx. Keep going in between diamond 5 and 6. I wish your own performance did something to the rank. Just seems like luck now and my performance doesn't matter (good team mates = gain csr, bad team mates = lose csr)

Yeah, there really is no point in playing Arena alone if you're trying to rank up. The percentage of poor teammates I match with is staggering compared to the competent players.

Ok so I haven't played the game in about 2 days and holy shit did I turn into a bad kid.

I've never had this type of performance drop after even a week of not playing a Halo game before, but this. This is garbage tier play I'm doing.

Warzone until I get back into it I guess.

I HATE it when people can't accept that you are better suited for a weapon/power up.

breakout match, I get the invisible...we win two matches in a row with one time me as "last man standing" against two and the other time me killing 3 of 4 enemies.

third match, guy "steals" it. we lose during the one on one in which he is left a live.

next round again.
in this moment I just gave up ~_~

Reminds me of BF4 when someone keeps repeatedly pressing A to select a transport chopper when it spawns. Everyone piles on in. They then fly it straight into the first building in their path.

Fully agree that it needs a social playlist. But keep in mind its still using your hidden matchmaking rank to find players for you, its just very loose :)

And I have had games where if one of us misses the timing, placement of a powerup, we all end up paying for it. I guess its not too much of an issue at platinum, but at onyx it can make or break the game, especially when rolling with a team of 4.

Really need a casual playlist of some kind. It's fun to sit back and shoot shit and not have to worry that you might cost someone a rank.

got this overkill with killing frenzy in SWAT, did I play good or were they just really bad?

Hah, they came across as cocky and bad! You have no idea how much i love the pistol in H5. My reliable, effective weapon which i always carry. I adore it.

This game man sooo good, gg guys

Dat ground pound oh my.

Man I just had a dissapointingly glitched out game of Warzone Assualt.

So the aiming mechanics are finally starting to feel like absolute butter to me. I'm wrecking fools left and right, and my team was less than a minute away from successfully defending the garage, when suddenly Sarah Palmer complains "enemy has captured the Armory" fall back to the base".

That was a strange comment to make because the armory was still unavailable to attackers... The red barriers were up and everything...

Anyway, my team could no longer hold the garage, because we were now spawning at the base and had too long of a trek. So it falls.

Now Sarah Palmer tells us to defend the armory AND let's us know the core is vulnerable. There's a bit of confusion on both teams and a battle spans both locations until the attackers realize they could go straight for the finale.

Anyway, I'm in beast mode, dropping Spartans with ease, getting all sorts of medals and what not. Surely ranking up my Spartan, and getting a shit ton of req points. We end up successfully defending the core, game over. Get back to post-game lobby, and it failed to retrieve my damn game data!

So will I ever get the rewards from that game or is it lost in cyber space?

First Halo game since Halo 2. The MP is amazing. Reminds me of Halo 2. I would love to see Oddball and King of the Hill. Or more free for all game variants.

I sometimes get the "failed to retrieve game data" error but AFAIK I've always been awarded the REQ points a couple of minutes later.

I'm still learning the ropes on the API, and I'm also tinkering with different apps in different languages. I've done JSON stuff in the past, but the syntax on those always felt like baby's first JSON file, so I never really learned anything. I'll get around to another infographic, but the first thing for me is creating a new version of H2Opp/H3Opp. The original programmer on those used to scrape Bungie stat pages and he made what I consider to be the best Halo stats app ever. He's completely disappeared from the scene, so I'm trying to make a version for Halo 5. The pictures below are H3Opp.

How is your experience with the API so far, i was thinking of writing and hosting
a private telegram bot, so me and my friends can easily get some halo 5 data
like the percentages needed for next rank. Shame the game doesn't shows it ingame
i saw something like that in a json data dump somewhere.

Ok I looked on waypoint ands it's all there. Got about 3000Rp a commendation pack and a promotional pack... This Req stuff is so addicting!

On the other hand, when will he get a chance to try it out himself? Give and take, it doesn't always have to strictly be about the W.

pewped on Tawpgun and TJ Nutter earlier tonight. messaged them to say hello and got nothin back.

ah, well. dun got pewped on anyway!

Was that a match where it was 4 on 3? Don't remember getting pooped on other than those 2 matches.

Yea, 4 on 3 and you won by 11. "Pewped on", lol.

hahaha yes, that was it. i knew i'd be able to root you guys out on here. i recognized tawpgun but not you and tj nutter's handles. the halogaf company tag gave ya'll away

Argh, game is so fun but it feels totally different match to match depending on which data server you get put on. It's no fun getting shot round corners etc.

I'd be interested in helping with that if you want contributors? I'm comfortable with pretty much any language that isn't Objective C.

I've being doing heaps of meta stuff with the Halo API. Mainly this JS client which now has unit tests with JSON schemas...

I also produced API documentation from my TypeScript sources which is super useful.

Just won a 2v4, we got the first few kills but they worked together and pulled ahead a little bit. We were giving them a good run though and must've frustrated them because one of them kept going for the fuel rod and as we started controlling it he quit out. We were slowly catching up and when another one of them quit we zinged them 2v2 and pulled the victory out of the bag. For a scrub like me it felt awesome!

Edit: Any UK/EU players at Platinum or thereabouts in slayer need a teammate tonight? I usually do alright but I'm not good enough to carry teams of randoms, going in with a team would be much better.

I recently had an awesome Warzone comeback. We were down 850 to 350 with no bases, with the other team pushing hard for the core. I sneaked out with a ghost and recapped an armory. Everybody re-spawned at armory, and we capped the other two areas with the other team at 950 points. I kept the other team off of bosses and we destroyed the enemy core, winning 1000-950ish.

Oh man, eerily similar to a match my team won yesterday afternoon. The other team was completely dominating but a stealth armory cap allowed us to take garage and the final armory while one dude made it into their core.

I've had many games decided by less than five points without core destruction, too. It's such a good mode most of the time.

Such a shame. Doubles? Really? Ugh... What, do the "young-people" not dig objective gametypes... is it the ADHDs?
I love CTF but objective playlists have never done extremely well in Halo, in terms of population.

BTB CTF is the GOAT... Stoked for that next week, as I'm sure it'll be in the rotation. Maybe we'll get BTB slayer and BTB objective playlists in a perfect world?

I'm happy about doubles.

I'm warming up to Breakout. When you're the last person on the team the adrenaline flows like crazy! Now if only I could warm up to Warzone. The scoring system is just weird. Capture all the bases for the majority of the time but lose, do almost all the damage on the bosses but lose, get tons of Spartan kills but be near last on your team in points. It just ain't doin it for me. I really don't like March on Stormbreak at all either.

True... but even just throwing in Team Oddball, Juggernaut and Infection would add some "objectives" that the most casual could get behind.

It just boils down to Halo being a lot of things to different people. I love CTF & Oddball, but it would not bother me at all if stuff like Grifball & Infection never saw a playlist, heh.

At least there won't be BTB Breakout.

I've been thinking, instead of potentially game-ending points, Boss kills should just grant personal XP and temporarily max out your team's REQ points. The incentive to kill a boss would be the ability to call in heavy weapons and vehicles, giving you a reason to try to kill them (to keep a lead or give you an opportunity at a comeback) but without distracting from the objective of capturing bases/destroying cores. And there would be less "who gets the last shot" metagame. Dunno, just spitballing.

Honestly this sounds like it would result in more steamrolling, not actually giving the losing team a fighting chance.

If you have a communicative team than losing a Legendary boss sucks, but it's not the end of the world. I think I was playing a game with Funk the other day and we were down 400. We took the opportunity for the Warden to show up to assault their bases instead and go for the core. Won 1000 to 800-something, and had we not actually killed the core we probably would have won anyway—pressuring the core with a competent team means the other team is going to freely give you extra kills as they get desperate to break out, which combined with your three-base advantage can close a gap quickly.

I've come back from as much as a 500 point deficit, and ultimately even if you lose all the bosses you still have a chance as long as you play smart. But upending the gradual progression of REQs would destroy that balance.
