I think this assembly mission is glitched. I've killed everyone but the quest hasn't finished and the objective marker is off the map completely. Fuck.

Edit: found the marker, but it's upstairs and can't seem to find a way to get up there.

So I basically played this for 6 hours straight tonight. God, how I've missed exploring and looting in Fallout. I'm so glad junk has a purpose now, so my hoarding isn't just to trade at the nearest caravan seller anymore.

I'm currently level 9, and am basically turning my character into the diabolical mad scientist who has turned the Red Rocket into her own personal lab. Have all the "upgrade" perks except for the melee weapon one, and along with lockpicking and hacking that's basically all my character has so far.

Favorite part of the game so far (spoiler for an early mission):
Taking on the quest where you have to clear the raiders out of the car factory. I got killed trying to make my way inside the first time. So on the second run, I did a little exploring so I could level up so I could take the hacking perk - then hacked the advanced terminal to access the power armor that was sitting nearby. Equipped my Big Jim wrench as a melee weapon and just tore through the entire base like an unstoppable demon. The dash + melee attack animation with the power armor in third person is just so damn satisfying.

I really love what they did for the power armor in this game. Makes it feel powerful, but also you don't have to wait until the endgame to be able to access it. And you can choose how you want to use it, as opposed to it just being the "best" armor.

And despite doing a lot of missions and a bunch of exploring, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of the game because I haven't done a ton with settlement building yet (although I built a house, hooray?). This game is going to eat up all my time, geez.

I do notice that
some love the new power armor feature

I personally hate it since I loved wearing it but now it's not just amazing endgame armor, theres no amazing feeling when you unlock it or w/e

Damn, guys, WTF? Bethesda really fucked it up this bad? I mean, there's a lot of negative reviews and opinions out there telling me that this game is not Fallout anymore and just a sandbox with shitty dialogue, a ton of useless crap, removed skills and so on.

I have bought the game before launch and played around 1.5 hours (just got out of the vault and stopped playing till weekend) and I like what I've seen so far....

There are some changes but it's still Fallout at its heart, a lot has improved and Bethesda made a compromise in balance regarding how people approach the game. A lot of people played it as a shooter, some didn't, previous games got a lot of criticism as well by those that played it more as a shooter because you could miss a shot even if you aimed at someone practically point blank, that doesn't happen if you play it as first person now, but can happen (depending on your stats) when in VATS. The game still has a lot of stat checks, but it is balanced between the two forms of play. The game has the best exploration/world building of any Fallout and all TES games (Morrowind I guess is an exception). Truly IMO the only thing I dislike is the dialogue system but that's it, having a blast. There's a lot to do in this game more so than other Fallouts. Also every Bethesda Fallout game has had a strong number of anti-Bethesda Fallout players, the obsessive toxic Fo/Fo2 fans, usually many from RPGCodex that try ruin it for a lot of people, many were posting spoilers across Steam forums and IIRC on RPGCodex as well. A lot of negative reviews are by them, they did the same with Fo3. Also for what it's worth, the writing is better than Fo3 and much longer main story quest for what its worth, not as good as New Vegas writing though. Also the game design in terms of challenge is way, way, better than any other Bethesda game which is great.

How?
I'm 15 hours in and still level 9. Such a huge gap lol.

Well I farmed a lot of repeatable quests. I didn't know they were repeatable. I thought they continued the Brotherhood of Steel story arc, but they are just repeatable quests you can do. So I did that for a few hours, until I realized I wasn't getting an progression in the story. >_>

I think you should probably load a save before that and come back later. That's my suspicion anyway.

OK, luckily my oldest autosave was just as I entered the Sewer so I exited and will leave it for now. Just got a Minutemen quest asking for my to clear the ghouls from there though. I think I'll leave that one for a while. :P

Do I always have to manually choose to use my critical meter in V.A.T.S or is there a way where it will just get used automatically?

It's not easy to use because the window of opportunity to click the button in V.A.T.S. is too short. Any suggestions?

Mash whichever button it is for you after you confirm your attack.

The quest Confidence Man bugged my game. After following certain events of the quest-line, my character doesn't die anymore. Every time my HP reaches zero it returns back to full.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

The same tactics and the same guns seem to work just fine against everyone, though.

Of course that's on hard, maybe on survival you really gotta change things up.

Not really, at least for me.
For example, robotic enemies are pretty hard to deal with using my usual pipe gun. I had to use the laser rifle exclusively for them. Normal guns are also pathetic in fighting super mutants.

Right, I remember that there are a few of them in the previous games.

I bought the digital version on PS4 today... is it supposed to take 6 hours to install? I left it downloading and checked after an hour and a half and it was installing. 'Oh great i'll be playing in 10-20 min!) Now i'm going to sleep and it's still installing :/

Is it downloading while installing? That's the only thing I could think of why it's going slow.

Is there a way to throw grenades in V.A.T.S or should I add that to my ever growing list of stupid things about this game ? :O

The detail in idle animations is insane. I was working on some armor on the work bench and turn around to see
Piper
smoking a cig and quickly flick it away like I just caught her all while shooting me the dirtiest look.

Cool. Could probably take the perk even though I've got 5 INT and still see some returns on my investment.

If gamefaqs is right (which is obviously doubtful), the perk has a 5% chance to proc with INT 5, so prepare to quickload quite a bit.

Wish it was this way for me but eh. The only reason I've changed weapons is because of a change in range or I ran out of ammo. What difficulty you playing on?

e: or maybe the guns I have are just simply very strong

If it is like the pervious games you equip the grenades then go into vats.

I haven't tried because I mainly hoard them.

Ive started building in salvation, got water, electricity, a few houses, two turrets and a guard post. I think this will be the only settlement I build up and will be my primary base of operations. Don't think I have the patience to grow every settlement into something big.

Can people advise if there are exclusive quests I'll miss out on by đoing this? I plan to do the quests to get settlements allied with myself, but then I'll likely just ignore them.

I downloaded the initial game file (4.4 GB) pretty fast (probably about 15 minutes) and then it downloaded the rest (32GB Application Data file) over the course of about 2 hours. I preloaded so I'm not sure but you might be able to start playing the game as soon as the first 4 GB download file finishes.

You can reload in VATS? I didn't know that.

I'm not sure. I just meant when the V.A.T.S screen ends, I might still be mashing the button and it'll reload.

I did exactly that, and in V.A.T.S it fired my gun instead, grenades were bound because outside of V.A.T.S I could throw them with the Alt key.

I'm playing on hard. Perhaps it's due to my pitiful pipe gun firepower. But it's pretty noticeable. While I only need about 3-4 shots to raiders' body to kill them, I need about 20 to kill a robot protector with the same gun (15 firepower, semi automatic). The same goes for the mutants. I've just bought and fully upgraded a hunting rifle with 66 firepower. I hope it'll be enough to kill those mutants.

The window is really short so you don't need to mash for long. From what I've seen the window ends just before you fire your gun or swing your weapon.

Well, I guess I'll try so see it for myself this weekend by playing more (at least 10-15 hours). The story and everything else related to it was never a strong thing in Bethesda's games (Morrowind is exception for me), so I don't expect a good story from F4, but side quest in F3 was really cool and really well done for the most part IMO, so I hope to see at least this level of quality here in terms of side quests.

I haven't figured that out yet. It's really hard to throw grenades accurately so they're almost useless.

I've found Frag grenades to be worthless because of the fuse time delay. Molotov Grenades on the other hand work great because they explode on impact and catch things on fire. You can even blow up turrets with them which is super helpful.

Is there a way to remove map markers that you have placed? I can't for the life of me figure out how to.

edit - and 2 seconds after I post this I figure it out...just click to place a new map marker anywhere on the map and it has an option to "remove" map marker.

You think it'd make more sense that if you click on a map marker to ask that there.

Quick thoughts after about 6-7 hours:

-Game feels like Fallout 3 HD
-The difficulty is broken (I play on survival and there's no challenge anywhere)
-The combat is broken due to bad AI
-Traversal and inventory are broken due to fast travel

...this is what they developed for so long. It feels like absolutely nothing was learnt from FO3. All of the game systems are inherently broken and easily abused, they didn't even try to limit it.

I just wanted to somehow make the experience as "survivalist" as possible, but quick saving, fast travelling and the lack of challenge all prevent that.

Is Charisma as useful as it was in 1,2 and NV? Can I still talk my way out in most cases?
Charisma wasn't useful in 2 and New Vegas, you could easily get to max speech without a high charisma. And the only reason it was useful in 1 was because it directly influenced how many companions you could have.

Anyway, it's more important now since Bethesda made every possible skill check a Charisma check.

Quick saving and fast travelling are things you do yourself, so if you want to make it as survivalist as possible, why not ban yourself from using them?

Probably been asked many times in this tread: Is the PS4 version playable concerning framerate issues and worth downloading?

Because that's the games fault not mine. Players shouldn't pretend bad design doesn't exist. They could've made fast travel cost something. They could've made it so that you cannot fast travel in power armor. They did nothing to balance the feature.

I've lost dog meat. I said stay to him so I could trade in the wastelands when I went to diamond city for first time and now I can't find him. Where has he ran off to?

I'm right there with you. I sent him back to Sanctuary when I got a new companion, and have not been able to find him since. I asked in here and people said to look in back yards and dog houses. I looked for 30 minutes and cannot find him.

I had a really funny moment happen earlier. I was about to take a shot at a distant Super Mutant, and then suddenly a Radscorpion burrows out of the ground next to me, but he hits a rock, dies instantly and goes flying 50 feet in the air!

BETHESDA ENGINE!

Yeh....can't VATS throw nades in FO4. Its also a bit of a pet peev with me as well, as I did it all the time in FO3/NV, I guess it made grenades a little OP which is why they may have changed it

ruined Yellow house in the caldisac in Santuary , behind is a doghouse

in the back on the left

or keep trying the Gas station

or destroy yellow house

and put a dog house somewhere close ... wait 24hrs .. keep checking

I lost dogmeat a couple of times too. If you're on PC, you can put this in the console and it'll teleport you to him. I had to use it a couple of times now!

I personally love fast travelling for when you are nearly over your weight threshold and need to drop stuff off at home, so each to their own I suppose. I wouldn't use it at any other time than that though.
