So, I was wondering if the companions need to be given ammo if I equip them with specific guns, or do they have Magical Companion Ammo for any gun you give them?

Right and then you see a deathclaw? What then? You are gonna melee him?

NO, MY GOOD SIR! HE WILL MELEE YOU! That's his job.

I'm not afraid of Deathclaws, but if I happen to meet one, I will gladly show my mercy, spare it and quickly leave it alone so it is not disturbed.

Anyone else having trouble reading text in the game?
It always seems very blurry to me, making me get a headache?

Hope a mod comes up soon to tweak this.

Settlers travel with their Brahmin along the supply line to the settlements you set. They also get a new name like "Provisioner".

Here you can see the supply line by pressing C that I set when at one of my settlements.

They can die in their travels from attacks by raiders or other enemies and end your supply line if they do die. Here I test by killing him myself. However when I followed him he was also attacked by some ghouls but me and Codsworth along with him killed them all. It's a good idea to equip them with a good weapon and armor to defend themselves.

As you can see, when he died the supply line ended and I don't get the option to view any supply lines on the Pipboy. Also I went back to the settlement I set the supply line to and I couldn't access the materials from the other settlement any longer so it does seem to end it entirely.

I did this and the supply lines show up in my pip boy but the workshop inventory is still not shared. The settlers I sent to run the supply lines have completely disappeared.

First Fallout for me.

Those Ghouls, though. One is jumping right in front of me, I use VAULT. Slowly but surely it flies through the air, inch by inch, I take my one shot.

It misses. VAULT stops.

Imo, CHR is the backbone to this game. There are a lot of conversations I run into that have persuasion checks (extra caps payout, gives you a weapon, more info on a quest).

Also, you get perks for your playstyle. So if you like to play alone? There's a perk for that (lone wanderer).

If you like to play with companions? There's a perk for that (attack dog, animal friend, inspirational)

Also, there is the local leader perk which is essential for your settlement building if you're into that. It basically unlocks the 2nd half of settlement building.

If any of that sounds interesting to you, do it lol!
If I get INT to 1, I could basicly get the Idiot savant Perk to compensate XP and put all the int points I had towards Charisma?

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Mid (?) game spoilers, concerns the Brotherhood of Steel

So after killing Kellogg and triggering the Brotherhood giant ship coming to Boston, you now have BoS ships and paladins helping you out in certain locations. I just went back to the sattelite dish where the super mutants were because they kicked my ass 10 levels ago, and I get there and 2 helicopters are attacking the place, explosions everywhere, one mutant nukes one helicopter out of the sky, 3 paladins rappel down from ropes from the other helicopter and fuck shit up...

...it was awesome! and made that quest a lot easier, they were STILL kicking my ass even at lvl 24, damn. Fuck that was good.

is that just from being on the brotherhood, or is it from that story trigger?

This logic is so dumb. It's a better choice to continue to allow these options for if the player would like to avail of them than to strip them from the mode. Especially in a single player experience where the emphasis should be on the player to dictate the pace / experience.

Exactly!

Side note semi-relatred but there are mods for this, well in past games. Like one in FO3 that disables the fast travel and you use a motorcycle that you need to keep up on maintenance and gas.

Leg shots, best way to deal with a large group of Ghouls on hard difficulties!

I feel like this game just committed a cardinal sin by making me escort an incredibly slow npc across the wasteland AFTER doing a ton of work to rescue him.

So, I was wondering if the companions need to be given ammo if I equip them with specific guns, or do they have Magical Companion Ammo for any gun you give them?

Their default weapons have infinite ammo, I believe. Anything you give them does not.

You could. But I'm not sure on the chance of getting the perk to activate for being an idiot.

1 int is also pretty bad as you'll miss out on the science perk. Heck you'll miss out on a ton of int perks. You'd be better off deleting your game loljk.

You know what, I like the new crafting but you're right. Someone of the crafting/settlement stuff is obtuse and makes little sense.

Want to craft a highly technical workbench to modify firearms? Well, do you have high Charisma? ...

Well you have to sweet-talk those weapons to get optimum performance!

So I'm a bit unsure on how and when you are supposed to use the power armor. I'm playing at hard and atm it feels like I die super fast when not using it, but on the other end everything become trivial when using it.

Feral Ghouls are fucking savages lol

Also, that Radscorpion jump scare got me :(

I will never go back to that hut ever again.

the only sniper rifle I've found takes like 40 shots to kill a mutant =[

I took one of those dinky pipe rifles from the beginning and modded it with a Powerful receiver, a long barrel, and a long scope. I think you need the Gun Nut perk to add the scope. And then it can oneshot Super Mutants, provided you get a headshot. At most, two shots. You can also take out the suicide bomber super mutants with a single shot to the arm holding the bomb.

starting to get overwhelmed with locations, seems everywhere I go for a quest I open up 3 new locations or buildings to go in, and my ocd goes "what if theres a quest inside? or a bobblehead / magazine"

I dont know when ill be done with this at this rate

This game is so janky and vague, and the settlement + workshop + power armor upkeep are incredibly tedious and could've done with some (a lot) of streamlining, but I've tripped my way into role playing as a wandering slasher-gunslinger with a heart of gold who terrorizes raiders before returning home to plant crops......and it's kinda fun. I don't know how long I'll last, but I can't say there's another game I played recently that let me stalk and kill enemies with a machete during a radiation lightning storm while they slept comfortably, just so I can have supplies to take care of a bunch of strangers who walk around getting stuck on geometry and on top of houses.

EDIT: And holy hell does this game need a "Companion and Settlers" option at the workbench so you can just access everyone's jobs, weapons, and location without having to track them down.

Is VATS important for a Melee character I wonder. I am thinking of creating a Melee character too (never seems able to make up my mind hahaha); there's something strangely alluring about a good-natured, pretty female character bashing people's heads off with a spiked bat like a barbarian, hahaha.

Also, I assume you'll be skipping the Lockpick and Hacking perks?

VATS is nice for melee because it helps ensure hits and trigger criticals easily, especially if you run third person.

No lockpick or hacking for McGrizzle. If he can't punch out into submission, he's not interested.

You and I both. But I'm managing my ocd a lot better than in past beth titles.

The new looting system is a godsend too. Man it was brutal before. I literally had to open every container because my mind would go crazy if I didn't.

haha, stop telling me to delete my game darn it.

What is the absolute minimum INT you would get.

So the general consensus is, more F3?

I'm happy with that. Soon as I have more free time I'll pick this up and delve in.

The new radscorpions are scary fuckers. They look scary, they move like demons and they chew small arms fire like biscuits at a tea party.

Radscorpions were always scary, honestly. Even back in Fallout 1, if I ran into Radscorpions while traveling, I'd just make a beeline for the map exit. For early characters, a mob of those was basically instant death.

Even the Deathclaws were better, because at least with those, by the time you had to deal with them, you'd have a sniper rifle with 99% accuracy to hit the eyes or whatever.

Man, that early cave in FO1 filled with Radscorpions. My level 1 character wasn't ready.

Well I am an int build. So Probably not a good idea to ask me :p

Bare minimum? Hmmmm 6. 6 lets you get science, scrapper (which is VERY IMPORTANT for gun modders), hacker (for getting into any terminal and finding hella good loot and quest shortcuts, and gun nut.

You can skip hacker, but I personally hate being locked out of stuff. I ocd too much.

It's much more then just F3+. The game is certainly not without it's flaws, and missing some improvements that you would have hoped for, but there is much more going on here then it just being a slightly modified sequel. I wouldn't listen too much on those that say that it.

I basically need to be able to lockpick/hack so I had 4 in INT for sure. I get really greedy with my stats though and usually pick it as if I'll get the bobblehead to get perks I want.

I heard Idiot Savant is extremely good but I haven't used it personally.

The base building, though janky and basic, has caused me to spend a lot of hours in this game. I don't know why. There don't seem to be any actual threats or even a reason to build a giant-ass fence; but hey why not. I feel like I just want Fallout Minecraft or something (Fallcraft? Mineout?).
