soooooo this quest says talk to paladin Danse to hand in (its the whole distress signal quesline, I finally finished it), but now that hes my companion, I cant hand in the quest

did I break the game (well that quest at least)? I tried dismissing him but then when I talk to him again I can only tell him to come with me as with the other companions

edit: he even has the little quest thing above his head ffs

I like that going back and getting the special book from your house after leaving the vault at the very start gives you +1 to a stat

The base building, though janky and basic, has caused me to spend a lot of hours in this game. I don't know why. There don't seem to be any actual threats or even a reason to build a giant-ass fence; but hey why not. I feel like I just want Fallout Minecraft or something (Fallcraft? Mineout?).

I haven't been attacked yet. I've had random monsters wander in my defenses, but no actual organized attack yet. I don't see how anyone could take a settlement anyway. Heavy Machine Gun Turrets are cheap to produce and require no electricity. They kill Deathclaws, so I doubt anything less than a 10 man group of BoS could get through a handful of them.

One day I'll build missile turrets too. That'll be fun.

Tell me about it.

My heart broke when I hit the build limit at the gas station (which has quickly become my favourite place in the new world)

I'm trying to CREATE something here, jeez.

Can't wait to mod away that limit.

There's already a mod that gets rid of it I'm pretty sure. But yeah, that limit is definitely there because of multiplat. Makes little sense to have it on PC.

starting to get overwhelmed with locations, seems everywhere I go for a quest I open up 3 new locations or buildings to go in, and my ocd goes "what if theres a quest inside? or a bobblehead / magazine"

I dont know when ill be done with this at this rate

Especially Boston itself is PACKED with locations. Just following the freedom trail gave me about 10 new locations and buildings to enter/visit.

Radscorpions were always scary, honestly. Even back in Fallout 1, if I ran into Radscorpions while traveling, I'd just make a beeline for the map exit. For early characters, a mob of those was basically instant death.

Even the Deathclaws were better, because at least with those, by the time you had to deal with them, you'd have a sniper rifle with 99% accuracy to hit the eyes or whatever.

I fucking hate radscorpions. I think their Albino variants are what fueled my dislike of all scorpions. Nightmare fuel. :lol

Yeah, as I got into Boston I gave up almost completely with checking out thing along the way to Diamond City. Way too many locations :P

It's cool that there are ppl having fun with it I guess...but there doesn't seem any point to it.

Apart from protecting your power armour and crafting stations (which can just be built again anyway)...I just don't see the point, and just feels like a feature which was tacked on as an afterthought. It would have been better if they integrated it into the story a bit rather than it being something completely optional.

Normally you have to talk to him after leaving the bunker(the last location), worked fine for me but i already had him with me. Maybe go there again and see if he wants to talk.

How many city hubs are there in total like Diamond City and Goodneighbor?

btw: I've just seen that I played this for 18 hours but I still feel like I'm at the beginning. I probably have just seen half of the map.

I built a huge-ass staircase to the roof of the station and put 3 heavy machine guns on top of it, surrounding the pump area with fence to make room for new people's beds. 5 mins later a group of super mutants attacked... and the carnage was glorious.

I don't really disagree; this game seems to epitomize the old adage of buying a Bethesda game for the mods that fix it.

I think the map feels smaller than previous games, simply because the world is so densely packed that you don't have to walk far before you stumble over something new.

Anyone know how it compares in size to FO3 or FNV?

Edit : so it's 2-3x bigger than FO3 and takes 11 mins to sprint from edge to edge.

I would like a mod that allows me to repaint my weapons. Oh, and one that makes my weapon show on my character. Oh, and backpacks.

This game is so janky and vague, and the settlement + workshop + power armor upkeep are incredibly tedious and could've done with some (a lot) of streamlining, but I've tripped my way into role playing as a wandering slasher-gunslinger with a heart of gold who terrorizes raiders before returning home to plant crops......and it's kinda fun. I don't know how long I'll last, but I can't say there's another game I played recently that let me stalk and kill enemies with a machete during a radiation lightning storm while they slept comfortably, just so I can have supplies to take care of a bunch of strangers who walk around getting stuck on geometry and on top of houses.

EDIT: And holy hell does this game need a "Companion and Settlers" option at the workbench so you can just access everyone's jobs, weapons, and location without having to track them down.

You can build a bell which calls all settlers to that location (it's in 'specials' I think). Takes a lil bit for everyone to gather but it's very useful.

Beautiful

I've got a building around the back with a step down onto the roof, a farm in the corner & I'm building a big multistory around the side which halted when I ran out of pieces. Going to look for a mod this evening so I can continue Project Rebuild

I think we need a Show Off Your Settlements thread. Somebody take the reins!

Has anyone ran into the glitch for the quest "The Big Dig"?
Quest Spoilers
I got all the way past the mirelurk hunter and can't proceed because Mel is glitched out along with Sonya. I tried reloading a previous save to get him to destroy the last wall but he won't he just stands there. I've tried attacking him but all he does is go agro and I can't stop him at that point. I'm thinking about reloading really early and trying the entire quest again but I don't want to.
Any help is appreciated I'm on ps4 too.

The Gas Station? I couldn't stay there anymore, everytime I traveled there I got ambushed by a Super Mutant Suicider. Fuckers had it in for me. :lol

Wow. I've only had the odd dog attack when I've been there, but the gun emplacements deal with that before I even get the chance to notice.

The only time I've had anything attack one of my settlements was the first farm you get sent to by the Minutemen. A horde of supermutants. Luckily I came fresh from a scavenging trip with a sweet new weapon, so they didn't last long.

Because how can they carry all that stuff without BACKPACKS!? I mean SERIOUSLY you guys.

Bethgames, you guys make the gamiest games.

There is an item you can build which is a bell that you can ring and everyone gathers round in the settlement. No perfect but it is something.

The only real thing that kinda feels wrong in this game is how strong the Power Armor is.
Not only do you get to be a unkillable machine in it but it makes you able to carry so much more weight aswell.
Power cores aren´t rare enough in my opinion.

I only get wood and steel from everthing. am i missing something here?

Really? Weird.

Are you dismantling the junk you collect when you get back to your base/settlement? You can also put the junk in your workshop station and it will automatically break junk down as you need it.

Essentially weapon modding has two stages: your basic stuff (Gun Nut 1 & 2, Science 1 & 2). Screws and the like are required. You get those with the Scrapper perk

Then you find more advanced weapons, and they have mods that go beyond the first stage. Advanced stuff that requires Gun Nut 3+, Science 3+ and even rare materials. You get those with Scrapper 2.

Where can i find Screws?

Tip of the day....tag screws in your weapon mod bench, and then a magnifying glass will appear next to anything you find in the world which has screws in it

Of course, anything can be tagged.....makes the looting game alot easier when you can be selective

I've put a few hours into this an am already overwhelmed by all the stuff. Didn't know I was going to play minecraft going in. That being said it is growing on me.

Except the interface and key-bindings, which are utter trash and restricted by the need to hamfist everything into the pip boy. A proper map and a reasonable way to manage inventory would probably give me 15 minutes of additional gameplay every hour.

go where again tho, hes with me with the quest icon on his head. if I dismiss him to a location (like any other companion), when I talk to him I can just tell him to come with me. meh

Yeah, the controls aren't great - I've tried KB&M and controller. Neither are entirely comfortable, but I'm getting used to it on kb&m

It's mostly throwing grenades and the building stuff that I would want to change, but whatever. I'm over it now.
