I can't decide whether or to get this or just replay New Vegas. I realize that the RPG systems (leveling and dialogue) and writing are probably not up to NV levels but I tried to replay New Vegas earlier this year and found it be cumbersome and maybe a bit outdated in character control.

Can anyone maybe clue me in to how movement and combat feels compared to NV? Does it control better? I'm really on the fence for this one.

Totally forgot about doghouses, thanks. There is like 50 pages/day and with all the playing I'm slacking behind reading it throughout, so sorry.

Oh, no worries man. It took me a while to figure out too. Wish there was a better system to find companions.

I feel kind of bad for laughing but this is fucking hilarious

It ain't funny man! Luckily I managed to recover the helmet and a fuckin leg before they were destroyed. Fuck you Garvey!

I was hating the settlement feature as its too much of a time sink to get enough parts to make something worthwhile.

Until I found unlimited supplies mod(bat file) and now I'm addicted to making the most bad ass forts I can dream up. I can make the treehouse I always wanted as a kid.

Unrelated. I love having high stealth and pickpocket perks and stealing the power core right out of someone in power armor. They're forced to get out of it. I took one out of a BoS and he was forced out of the suit and was essentially walking around in his undies holding his chaingun.

Something I just figured out... The normal "wait" for time to pass command is gone, but now you can sit in a chair or on a bench to quickly advance time.

The combat control is damn near perfect in comparison to f3/nv. If you're accepting of fewer RPG elements then you'll enjoy it.

How does level scaling in this game work? Is loot scaled to level? Are enemies? Is there any scaling?

So...I'm terrible at this game, or I'm playing it wrong. Never played a Fallout game before, but I have played Skyrim and Oblivion.

That being said...I die all the damn time. I keep running into enemies that seem over powered for me. I have very basic weapons but limited ammunition. For example, I'm trying to clear the Veteran's Military Cemetery for one of the minute men missions. Get to what I think is the last room and get pulverized. I'm level 8 and have dumped points into endurance.

Are there some good places to go for early game weapons or armor that can help me out?

What's the point of using mentats now? What can a temporary boost to INT even do for me? Used to use them to pick locks I couldn't.

Pop one before turning in a mission, INT still increases the amount of EXP you earn.

You probably need to start crafting. I turned a like 14 dmg pistol into a 37 dmg pistol with better accuracy. You can double your armor pretty easily by upgrading it as well. Make sure you put on armor like legs and arms that go over the top of something like your default Vault Suit.

can't you just give him something else and equip it?

It won't let me equip any piece of armor except power. It has to be a way to make him get out like a command but I don't see it. Fuckin hilarious anyway. Sometimes I wish I could take out his fusion core and leave him in the wasteland.

Can you not? I take fusion core from BoS all the time, forcing them out. Not sure about companions. Can you ask to trade and just pull it out?

You turn them into Grapemenats that boost charisma by 5 and laugh at charisma checks and sell the rest of the useless drugs (apart from Psycho).

If you have it on PC Project Nevada mod makes the controls and shooting a lot better. 4, in comparison to NV, is a pretty big step back from an RPG system stand point.

Anyone know a place where one would find a combat shotgun? Havent come across any in 20 hour play time.

I'm slow catching up on this thread so if this has been answered sorry, but I found one last night. Follow the Minutemen quest line (from your cowboy hat bro in Sanctuary) and two settlements in you get sent to a boathouse on a lake. There's a trap inside the shed next to it that disarms to a combat shotty.

In my opinion, I think Project Nevada is a must have for New Vegas. It doesn't change the core systems, but it enhances what's there and adds a few nice extras.

I wish the slow-no feature tied to your AP from Project Nevada was a part of F4. I hate having to pop pills to get that feature. Soon enough I suppose.

You can be lucky it was only a combat shot gun. I once ran into a
Rocket launcher trap

So are Fusion Cores rare or in limited supply? Up til now I've avoided using my my Power Armor, but I have 3 full fusion cores and a partially used one. Does it make any sense at all to find a location, fast travel back to get my armor, wreck shit, then bring it back home? Or am I setting myself up for harder times later if I use it up now.

I wasted so much damn resources when I was building my fortress yesterday. Trying to figure out what peices do what and I kept scrapping pieces I didnt use not knowing I get less back when I scrap it. Basically wasted all my steel and wood. Dammit.

I might reload an older save. Not sure If I even want to build it in Sanctuary. Thinking I might go for the Drive in theatre. I think I got the building mostly figured out now. Now I gotta play around with the power sources.

As a general rule for fun, if you ever hear gunshots in downtown Boston, go towards them. Wrapped up last night with a 20-minute war between the Brotherhood, some Gunners, and some super mutants that had vertibirds and mininukes falling out of the sky. Some of the most fun I've had with the game so far.

"I think I'll tinker with my laser pistol"

*ten minutes later*

"POWERFUL LONG RANGE HAIR TRIGGER LASER RIFLE"

I love this game.

I have found 6 and haven't even seen Diamond City yet.

4 at full
1 at 50%
1 at 25%

I only use the armor for tough jobs.

Do all merchants pay the same amount when buying your stuff, or are some merchants paying more than others? Same goes for their prices when you're the buyer.

man that artilary... people will go crazy with building forts and shit just for funsies wont they (as we already seen in this thread)?

when I finish the game I might delve into it myself

I'd say use it however you like. I didn't because I wasn't sure about how bountiful FCs are and figured it better to conserve them, but now I have like 5 full suits and almost 30 FCs. So it's not that bad.

Plus if you get Pickpocket you can apparently steal them from BoS and other PA'd enemies and NPCs, as well as buy them from vendors. So if you like PA use it. I wouldn't necessarily explore with it on, but I wouldn't be afraid to use them now rather liberally otherwise.

I barely used my Power armor and saved up about 10 but there is a point in the game where you are going to want it for one of the later missions because of some radiation. It took me about 2 and a half cores to complete the mission. So to be on the safe side I would keep 2 handy.

you get more xp I guess

Lame. This is one change that I don't like. Chems don't seem nearly as useful now.

So how do you know if Idiot Savant works? I have INT 5 and I have not gotten anything >.>

(Plan to go INT 6)
When you gain experience, vault boy will appear at the bottom of the screen with a hilarious goofy laugh.

Lower your INT the better, but it does work. It's random. Been a God send for me though.

Its the best when it happens at he end of the mission. I've watched me go up 2 whole levels more than once because of it.
