Here's a tip for you guys if you are at the point in the main quest where you need to
go to the Glowing Sea. You can easily find a Hazmat Suit that has +1000 Rad protection in a location in the northeast area of the map known as the Dunwich Borers. Look it up on the Fallout wiki if you want to see the exact location. Go there and search around for a couple minutes and you'll stumble upon a small room with a free Hazmat Suit, as well as a nifty holotape recorded by the suit's previous owner.

Last night I was exploring and wanted to get all of the loot out of this group of abandoned houses I stumbled upon, but I noticed a Yao Guai in the distance so I set up a trap for him to walk into and fired at him from a distance with my sniper rifle. Once he was dead, I proceeded to walk into the first house I saw, turn to my left, and there's another Yao Guai just sitting there staring at me,

I still don't know what loot might be in that area, I was so freaked out.
if that's the house I'm thinking the spookiest part is the little monkey on the dresser...when his eyes light up bright yellow and...I was glad the bear came out of nowhere and killed me because I became paralyzed with fear.

guys...I dont want to cheat, but this missile launcher is called Partystarter and does 50% more dmg to humans

12500 caps ;_;

must be strong, no cheating!

I have tons of food (adhesive farms, screw hunger!), but how do you increase overall happiness? Sanctuary is currently at 80. Do you just go around building a bunch of non bed furniture?

Food, water, defence, power and beds are the biggest things. Then as you say make everything look nice. I am just starting to put TV's , lights etc in each house. I have a feeling TV's will get a signal later on in the game.

Thats one thing I dont get. How does keeping a settlement benefit you?

They don't really produce anything unless you make vendor shops which I think you need certian perks for.

And I guess you can take food from the garden and eat it/cook with it.

I suppose they can protect your armor and other stuff you store in your house

Like 8 hours into the game so far and I haven't had a single reason to upgrade it.
Seems entirely optional with no actual meaningful benefit you can't find out in the wild beyond allowing you to build and defend as you like. Eh. Feels like glorfied storage.

I've had this shotgun for a couple of levels now that absolutely destroys everything. Does 70 damage per shot + 25 bleed damage. I've yet to find anything that survives two shots to the face.

I also had been lamenting the lack of any weapons to use with all the .50 ammo I was finding, then boom, .50 sniper rifle. I have 400+ rounds to use that with. Good times!

I'm sad to hear you can't extend your bases as much as you want within your perimeter. I had big plans for some of them!

This has probably been asked before so apologies if it's been covered.

How viable is a handgun only run. I'm wanting to make myself a cowboy sherif type charchter, want to limit myself to handgun, revolvers and maybe some lever action rifle. Can you get these guns early and are they powerful enough to see me through. I plan on playing on hard.

Are you actually going to use any ballistic pistol, or does it need to be a revolver type? Because the 10mm among others can get pretty strong for average enemies. I'm not sure how strong non energy rifles can get either. My current highest is only at 72, and I don't use it on things like Super Mutants. Instead, I use my energy rifle that has a much higher faster rate and way less recoil. I am playing on Hard as well. I haven't found one yet, but I believe there's a Colt Python equivalent in the game, which should be pretty good against beefy enemies. Although I don't know if it would do more damage than an upgraded double barrel shotgun. If nothing else, it would get more shots off before reloading.

I swear to god, every point goes into strength now. FUCK THOSE WEIGHT LIMITS.

Or pocketed armor. The default pocketed gives exactly the same as +1 STR for carrying capacity, although I'm not actually sure if adding the pocket mod increases the weight much. You still don't need to spend a level on a stat though when using those. I haven't added the deep pocket mod to anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's double or triple the normal pocket mod for capacity.

Thanks to those who answered my questions about the workshop storage.

So is there any point having more settlers? Since I'll never be able to craft anything worth a damn I don't see any reason to bother with setting up settlements.

So far, I think settlers give you more building materials, I think. Someone who has put more time into can probably give you more help.

I think they may generate income since you can build stores etc.

I don't even feel guilty one bit. Encumbrance in this game is a stupid mechanic, always will be. It doesn't make the game more difficult, challenging or interesting in any way. Equipment burdens I can get behind, but inventory in a game that has a whole minecraft side game? Fuck that.

Did u guys do the unmarked super secret quest
where u make a radiation generated power armor chest piece?
<--- [early game]Cambridge Polymer Labs spoiler.

Pretty neat little quest with saweet loot at the end.

Oh, and also got the combat shotgun and the combat rifle (which I thought was the shotgun at first)

i, respectfully, disagree

having to think about what i can afford to carry is something i appreciate about exploration and looting

No idea why this game has a 7/10 overall rating on Steam, honestly. It has it's flaws, sure, but Skyrim got a 9/10 overall and from my experience it's pretty similar. I would give the game an 8, even though it's let down by a poor dialogue system. I also wish there were more RPG elements and less predefined character backstory, because roleplaying, but then again Skyrim had fewer RPG elements and Steam denizens had no issue with that, so...

Certainly doesn't warrant a score as bad as 7, even considering the aforementioned problems.

Only people that review games are people who REALLY REALLY love it or people who hate the game for stupid reasons. I am sure it will go up over time.

Early to mid-game may be tough but if you take the gun nut perks to soup up your guns it should be ok. Proper revolvers seems rare. I'm 20 hours in and only found one so far, and not a lot of ammo for it. I modded it up to respectable damage though so I always keep it on me. Plenty of other hand guns though, and mid-game you will start to see a lot of laser and plasma hand guns if that suits your archetype.

Also lots of fedoras and long coats, and sun glasses.

I am going to go 500, it is stupid because we are forced to carry 15 weapons as there is no Ammo and that takes up 250-300lbs! I am told I will still get steam achievements.

Oh now that's helpful...maybe. Hrm.

Already got it, never going to use it. I don't even like having a single companion, fuck an army of them.

Would be entertaining to see how they behave. I forgot about it tho. So i have not really used it.

It doesn't though, it just pads out the game. There's no thinking other than "Well fuck I'll just fast travel back to town and come back and grab this shit". Inventory management is never fun or difficult or challenging. It's busy work. Now if the stuff was completely missable if you didn't pick it up the first time then maybe I'd agree.

Is it worth it putting points into special attributes? I want a certain perk but my int is too low, its probably not a big deal but i always want to get a perk when i level up. Also i wonder whats the point of pressing square in the loading screens, it just puts a green filter on the displayed items, weird.

I was hoping for revolver types. I suppose I could relax my rules if it's just not possible.
Cheers for the info.

I can hold like 460 w/ low strength after modding some power armor. Only reason I wear power armor, really

either tagging or learning what junk you actually need really helps too

Wish you could craft ammo.......................unless I'm missing something?

Made a nice hunting rifle, but it uses .308 ammo and its scarce for me atm :(.
Not enuff gun ranks to change ammo, even then probably wouldnt want to make it .38, it halves the damage.

Don't forget you get
+1 from a bobblehead

IMO it deserves a 7/10. When Skyrim got a 9, you have to consider that that game came out in 2011. Even if Fallout 4 is newer i find Skyrim to be the superior game.

Cool. Great info.
I think I will allow myself to use any type of handgun then. Can't wait to get my hands on a sweet dust covered long coat.

The stores you build sell pretty good stuff. The high level stores sell better things too but I still need to unlock the perks for it. You also generate cash, about 100 bottlecaps every day in Fallout time. Which is what, 30 real time minutes.

Only 7 hours in and just got Piper in Diamond City. I really like that if your idling, your companion stops and talks to other residents, or even sits down to eat. Only thing I wish Bethesda would patch in are weapon holsters, I find it a really odd ommision after FO3.

so apparently tcl or whatever the no clipping command is disables vats? i couldnt get into a random vault i found because nothing happened when i hit the open door button and i just used the command to go through the wall and now i have no vats. SWEET! i really loved this game but now im losing interest because of this stuff. my wife permanently has no vats because it wouldnt let her out of the first vault.

I think its time you up the difficulty.

oh Goodneighbour is another proper hub like Diamond City (well not as big)? I thought it was just a building or something.

I think its time you up the difficulty.

I actually just did myself. Between being high level now (35 from doing all the things...ALL THE THINGS MUST BE DONE), having kickass weapons with almost all the best mods, the game was getting a bit too silly (as in easy). Bumped it to hard now, feels like normal felt until now, which is my sweet spot, I dont feel like banging my head against the wall but at the same time, I dont want everything being 1 shot

I think there's something wrong with the NPC's in my game. No matter what I do no one wants to play Gwent! Hope this gets patched soon :(.

Ok I have been playing for about 3 days...straight, and I think it's time to crawl out of my hole lol.

I'm level 22 atm

Kinda feel like just going for some unique weapons at this point.
Tried to go for the x-01 armor but I was too low level so it didn't spawn in, even though I was able to clear the area just fine, I do however have the helmet.

I'm near Hugo's hole and I hear a gun shot which i assume is hugo killing himself but then I hear some other weird noise and Piper goes "did you see that, we got to go check it out and see if anyone is ok" the thing is I'm looking at the sky and I don't see shit. Anyone know where the sound is coming from and what Piper is referring to?

hmm...you make a compelling argument. I am tired of making 4-5 trips back and forth to vendors.

it's most likely a small alien ship that crash lands, I had a quicksave before codsworth said something liket that. Was able to see something fly across thes sky, not too long after I found it while wandering so I assume that's what it was.
