Halo 5: Guardians |OT| The Trials of Osiris

There should be a setting in custom games for how long the delay should be. There shouldn't even be one in tournaments.

I said it months before the game released, but they just need a setting that sets the delay. For "offline" events you could set that to 0 and it would work just fine. And online events should obviously be set to 2 minutes.

Or do it like SC2, where the casters are actually joining the lobby as spectator and not as a player.

I'm curious, why 0 delay in tournaments? You could still have somebody watching in spectator mode and feeding a team callouts. Is it just the experience of the thing?

This is just wrong. The only thing they can't track is digital sales, and those will only add so much because digital purchases are still only ~20% of a game's total sales.

What is wrong about my statement? Do you really think that digital sales are going to remain stable as a percentage of sales, or that they aren't going to fluctuate depending on the title?

In an "offline" event, where the teams sit next to each other, it's impossible to cheat with spectator mode. Nobody is going to be in the party chat with the players, since admins and referees are sitting next to the teams and watching/helping them.

I don't think 343i have the same delay here. There were switching between Live and Spectator Mode immediately. It would be weird if their "back-up" was a 2 min behind stream.

EDIT: Here is Josh Holme's quote about spectator mode delay from October

You can spectate your friends in matchmaking or customs, in Arena or Warzone. It's a live Theater save film that streams directly from the server, with all of the Theater controls & camera options (1st person, 3rd person, Free cam). You can rewind, fast forward, adjust playback speed, etc. Player outines can be toggled on or off (as they can in Theater now).

There is theoretically no limit to the number of clients that can spectate on any given session, so long as you are friends with one of the players. The is a delay of 15-30 seconds from the live gameplay because the server is writing out the save film as it simulates the session, streaming it out to attached clients which are then replaying the film from there. This delay is configurable to make it longer, but we figure that 15-30 seconds is sufficient to address concerns RE: cheating.

We'll keep augmenting spectator mode over time based on feedback from casters & TOs. Just getting it to work as a streamed save film in the cloud without any impact to server perf was a big engineering effort.

What's this about playing offline? Yesterday my friends and I couldn't play offline together when they brought their shit over and we couldn't join up for matchmaking...

That completely defeats the whole purpose of spectator mode.
Frankie is great. I'm glad he hasn't up and left gaf.

Playing Battlefront made me realise that there really something weird with the aiming in Halo 5. It's really not as smooth as in Battlefront.

343 add in a bunch more really cool skins for weapons please. There's only currently 5 themes so far I believe? Maybe even open it up to the community to submit skins.

Playing battlefront made Me realize what a great game halo is. My level of enjoyment going from supremacy in battlefront to warzone in Halo was night and day.

Competed the game on solo legendary about a minute ago. It was... Interesting. I have so so much to say about the game. From art style to story telling. I'll talk about it when I can make threads. However, I can say that I really don't like the art style of this game. Due tot the vaselie filter and JJ Abrams lens flare, the game has no sense of depth or sense of scale. The forerunner objects blend too much with the skyboxes (the environment in general). The campaign was fun tho!

Why make a new thread? Write up a post in the spoiler thread. No need for a new thread each time someone finishes the game xD

I'm willing to make a thread about why I think 343's art style is not good for the "Halo experience". We have enough threads on the campaign. But I think Bungies Halo's, Reach in particular, looked graphically superior to Halo 4.

This. So good to have him here. More of this in the industry id needed.

Why would they still post here? GAF is barely above Gamefaqs these days. Full of entitled nerds who barely have any modicum of respect or civil discourse. Aside from Frank and a few others, most devs have left this place en masse. Even longtime GAF members barely post.

A thread dedicated to shitting on the Halo 5 art style, amidst all of the other shitting on Halo 5 threads in gaming side right now?

Seems like a great idea! It will fit in well with the other 90% garbage that gets posted, like jack the nipper's crying thread

Halo thread needs to get moved back to community so i can get back to ignoring the majority of gaf

That's one of the reasons that HaloGAF got banned.

Pro Team just lost another match. No offense to EU but while those guys are pros, they're not at the level of the top US teams and these guys are easily too much for the pro team, the team who's been playing Halo 5 for 2-3 years.

I liked Halo 5. I even
liked all the Warden fights.
It's just the art style that is horrible imo.

Well I look forward to your exhaustive detail on why you personally don't like the art, I'm sure you will cite many reasons, and reasons for reasons, because opinions.

Well, maybe if most of the discourse on gaming side wasn't trash I'd want to read it. The 343 and halo hate gets pretty old; if you don't like something, don't play it.

Most of the threads seem to raise fair points. You may not agree, but that doesn't make it garbage.

Good, then you get to keep playing!!!

This is one scenario where moving the goal posts is completely acceptable! No one actually loses in Warzone, some just win more than others.

True! I start my first real full-time job on the 30th, so no time to mope around! Win or Lose, it's just more Halo before I lose all time in my life!

Someone please post if they answer anything noteworthy. I'm stuck at work for a couple more hours.

They once again picked the worst questions possible... One of them was literally "How do I get better at CTF?"...

All the great questions have been ignored.

Anybody willing to do a Legendary run through the Campaign on co-op with me tomorrow? Would be nice if I could get a full party for it; there are a few Achievements I still want to snag as well.

Eastern Time Zone, here. Gamertag's in my profile.

Anyone noticed matchmaking is a bit broken tonight? I'm platinum and keep getting matched against Onyx? Wtf?

Ha ha, yes. I am Diamond and getting matched against Onyx. Sometimes two Onyx players on the other team and one Platinum on mine while my team being down a guy. Not fun.

Hearing these pros say that the Elite doesn't have any sense of wear or tear, or at least any noticeable wear and tear at least.

Yet on my Elite controller, I've already weakened the left original stick. Any amount of force/pressure on the stick will make it pop off, like the magnet weakened or something. Doesn't happen with the original right stick, or with any of the other 4 sticks (Long Concave, Convex).

I mean, I'm really aggressive with my controllers when I play competitively, heck I've actually CARVED into Movement Stick on my dedicated Counter-Strike controller because of how often, and with how much force, I strafe in that game. But still, a $60 controller showing some wear and tear doesn't sit with me as badly as a $150 controller showing wear and tear after a week.

Isn't it about time Halo stole Forza's decal tool?

That is strange man. Actually one of the worries I had was one of the thumbsticks coming off or being loose while playing, but I haven't had that issue on mine. It really feels like they aren't even magnetic if that makes sense.

We are so close to a new thread I can already smell it. The smell of despair.

Tomorrow I'll play some double. Hope some of you are online >.>
